  1. Have tried many over the years.

Best one found was in Home Pro, aptly named HOY.

More of a jet than a spray

This is exactly what we ended up buying.

Was 480 THB at Home Pro. I also looked at the top-of-line model by Hafele, but it was almost double the price at 895 THB.

HomePro had a basin set up where we could test the models we were interested in. Very nice touch by them.

Both were excellent- nice trigger action and quality feel. If I was alone I probably would have bought the Hafele, but Ms. Bino and her Thai practicality saw little difference or reason to pay the premium price, and the fits of giggles over the brand name sealed the deal.

  2. I know that the bum gun topic comes up once every few weeks when some newcomer to Thailand comes along and asks "Is that thing beside the toilet really for spraying my arse?"

Having said that, I don't believe that we have ever explored the bum gun itself, and what really is the ultimate bum gun in terms of design and functionality; what to buy to replace the bum gun in our condo.

This thread is borne out of necessity. Yesterday morning whilst washing up after my morning constitutional, the gun failed in my hand. The plastic pivot point for the trigger broke off and the spring fell out, allowing the metal plunger bit to reach "Wide Open Throttle".

After an eye opening jolt of full pressure water, I had to try off quickly, get dressed and run out into the hallway to the service closet and shut off the water. During these precious few seconds, the bum gun had been flailing around at full pressure and soaked the entire bathroom.

A trip to the local Big C revealed a selection of guns. I picked out one that looked like the previous one that had been installed from the beginning in our condo, paid the reasonable 300 THB, took it home and installed it. End of problem.

Or so I thought... until she arrived home. She hates it. She says that the spray pattern is too big, the holes in the nozzle are too small, and that the trigger action is not good.

After trying it myself later in the day, she is absolutely correct. This gun has a hair trigger- all or nothing. The spray pattern is definitely too big, so that the water goes many places where it is not intended or desired, and the small holes in the spray head create painful little jets of water that feel like needles in a most tender area.

So- we are on a mission to find the ultimate bum gun, and address all of these concerns. I am also going to buy and install a valve on the outlet pipe from the wall to help control overall pressure and provide easy shutoff if the gun ever fails again.

    Some considerations include:

Spray pattern: has anyone ever seen a bum gun with an adjustable spray head? Of course a fine mist spray is desirable for cleaning the tender regions, but a full power jet spray is useful for hosing down the bathroom floor and shower.

Shape and ergonomics: has anyone ever seen a bum gun with trigger mounted on the front? It seems to me that this would allow more precise control with index finger as opposed to the thumb trigger on the back.

Trigger action- smooth and controllable. I'm not sure how to test this, but figure the one with the strongest resistance in the spring will achieve this.

Price is not a consideration, unless it is a ridiculously high 4 or 5 digit price. I'll spend some good money on something that gets used daily for an important function in our household.

I'm curious to know what other members have, and name brands to look for, or any suggestions. Tell us about your bum gun and what makes it truly ultimate.

  3. C'mon. Be fair. Look at American new channels and web sites and get American news. Canada is huge, needs separate news and has very good weather reporting for Canadians. Canada is in a different climate zone(s) and any storm may affect it differently.

Sure - I can appreciate all of that... I am in fact a proud Canadian.

However, weather.com is a "global" website- I can get weather information for Montreal, Bangkok or anywhere in the world.

And you are absolutely correct that Canada has our own very good weather reporting. The following snowfall prediction map image is on the CTV website right now. It speaks volumes and makes the point precisely. We don't discount our southern neighbors like they do to us!

  4. It's amazing how the weather seems to miraculously stop at the US - Canada border. ...or perhaps Associated Press does not realize that there is anything in the world except the US of A. However, it seems that Montreal, Quebec City, Saint John and all of the 4 maritime provinces of Canada will be feeling the brunt of this monster storm also. In any case, all the best to all the Canadians and Yanks who will have to endure this event.

Yup. Exactly as you say; According to the Americans, the weather stops at the border in this snowfall forecast image from www.weather.com.

God speed to all of them to get through this.

I'm feeling rather smug sitting in Thailand right now!

  6. I've got some friends from home visiting in Phuket, and want to meet up with them in Krabi. I'll fly there from BKK, but what can I suggest for them to get to Krabi / Ao Nang area from Bang Tao, and back again after a few days? Is there any bus or car service that anyone can recommend?

They are apprehensive travelers- looking for something safe, sane and reliable. No yaba fueled minivans, and they are too nervous to rent a car and drive themselves.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. We drove our VIOS there and back a few years ago. Filled up when leaving BKK, and coasted into Ranong on fumes at 3 AM... struggling to find a service station that was open. Made it easily the rest of the way on that tank.. about 3/4 of it. You will make it each way easily on two tanks of gas.

But like most of the posters above- I haven't done it since and I'll never do it again. We fly and rent a car at the Phuket airport. The VIOS is just a little bit too small for a long and fast road trip. My feet and hands were "buzzing" after a day on the road.

  8. There's thousands of other posts on this site you might contribute.

Similarly, there are thousands of other posts on this site that explain the trials and tribulations, the frustrations, and the problems that can arise when you are a foreigner living in Thailand.

You would be well advised to spend some time reading the forum, instead of starting a topic that has a high probablity of becoming a bitch-fest or lots of people slagging off Thailand and Thai people. (Hence, a troll topic.)

  9. If it is really important to not reveal your normal number, just get a B300 old style phone and a B50 sim and use that for your UK calls...toss sim when done.

won't work if the OP doesn't want someone to know he is in Thailand... IE doesn't want his wife to know that he is in Pattaya chasing tail instead of at a business meeting in Singapore like he told her.

  10. Don't go the Cheap Charlie route with seemingly free stickers. For just a few baht you can buy sticker sets. About 250 baht gets you 500 coins, and sets are 50 to 100 each.

If you buy them they are better / higher quality images, do not contain advertising, never expire, and you do not have to add all of the friends and endure these bogus messages. You will also be unique in that you will have stickers that most other people don't have.
