Clearly someone forgot to slip Ma-Ann the usual envelope!!

The only good thing about the upcoming elections is that Orbator Chiefs are only allowed to have two terms in power (not sure if this is retroactive or from the date of the election) so this slimeball will eventually slither away.

Is this his second term or his first term? How long is a term?

Went back today to have a look and the goulash, lasagne, American meatloaf etc all at 59 baht per 100 gm, as were the veges etc to accompany the dishes, and the small sauteed potatoes looked delicious!

As for the Pad Thai, well I make it at home sometimes and by the time I've bought the ingredients incl chicken, prawns, spring onions, tofu, ground nuts, bean sprouts and all that goes in it, it must be getting up there. The Pad Thai I had in the JC foodcourt was smallish and not at all tasty and was around 129-149 baht if I recall correctly.

I personally don't mind paying the prices above esp for the farang food (e.g. 118 baht for 200 gm of Lasagne) as IMO it is good value for money.

OMG 150 THB for Pad Thai in Central Food Hall in the most prime real estate position in the resort island of Phuket?  Are you chaps short of a few bob?

Believe it or not, you can go north AND south using either route, if you so choose.

Think this thread has just about run it's course, eh?

No, I would be interested to hear from some more people who think everywhere else in Phuket that is not Rawai/Chalong, is either a tourist trap, or too far away from Chalong....

    Which is in which direction?

The poster was talking about having to go through Patong or Surin to go (to the) south. That is correct. I am saying Why do you need to go to the south of the island at all (unless you are going to hospital, or maybe immigration)?

Kamalas OK but the need for driving through Patong or Surin to go south is a huge put off.

    (a) You don't need to drive through Surin to go south from Kamala

    (c) You don't need to go south at all unless you are going to hospital.

I think therein lies the problem.   Driving to Chalong from Kamala or anywhere else on the west coast is a pain with the trails of buses, steep hills etc.   Living in Chalong (or indeed Rawai when the circle underpass is complete, hopefully shortly) is easy.   Good restaurants, wide range of shopping options, and what I believe is quite important for full time living, a consistent population of diverse expats and locals sufficient to maintain friendships

You are assuming that there is a need to drive to Chalong from Kamala or anywhere else on the west coast. I wonder why?

Why would living near an airport become an ever increasing plus in the future? I would have thought the opposite would be the case.

You are clearly not well acquainted with Phuket geography , traffic conditions and logistics given this and your other post about whether Phuket is perceived to be a tropical island

I didn’t say Laguna area was near the airport. I said it was relatively nearer than the other suggested locales mentioned by other posters

In most Asian locations reasonable proximity to an international airport is considered a large bonus. If you had any conception of traffic logistics in Phuket currently and as seen going forward you would be better placed to offer constructive comments

who wants to live on an island and NOT live near the beach   ????

Precisely, especially one with (arguably still) some world class beaches, like Phuket.

Kamala might be my second choice but it lacks the comprehensive facilities of Laguna fringes/Cherngtalay area, and has a 6 lane speedway ripping through the middle which teds to detract from the ambience a tad.

So, Laguna/Layan wins hands down for the reasons put down in my post above. It's also relatively near to the airport, which is going to become an ever increasing plus in years ahead..

  9. I have considered your requirements and would say Laguna Area (Middle/North section of Bangtao Beach) and its fringes would certainly tick all the boxes. Apart from the major 5* hotels (Banyan Tree, Angsana, Dusit etc) there's a good range of all kinds of restaurants and shopping nearby in Boat Avenue etc. Villa Market there, Laguna Golf Course, and major Waterpark (Bluetree), and new Central lifestyle mall (both of which will have international supermarkets and major shopping/dining facilities) coming soon. Excellent beach and water quality from the middle up, never busy at the northern (Layan) end, and many affordable or luxury quality new residential developments, as well as other options.

Have a look around Laguna, and while I have no interest/connection with that company, drop into their "Lifestyle" showroom (beside Canal Village), and you will get a good feel for the geography, and (their) housing options, as a start of your considerations.

What's the update on the Green Man in Chalong? I have not been there for 13-14 years, ever since they got rid of the Indian chef. I drive by there and see the front in a complete mess, not many cars there. Looks very run-down from the outside.

Quite sad, really and a shadow of it's former glory. Howard and Mrs Howard still mine hosts, but are tired looking, as is the building and grounds. Going through the motions only. Occasional regular, or like me those who drop by for a quick one for old times sake if passing....

A faded vanity project. Probably also suffered a lot due to the tunnel works making it hard to access.

  11. I mentioned on another tread about recently visiting Vietnam.

Another thing I noticed there is that there are thousands of motorbikes, and 100% helmet-wearing riders. Don't know how they achieve that - Where is Phuket going wrong?
