  1. I have a Thai bank account, but I assume it's a bad idea to use a statement from a Thai bank as proof of funds for a tourist visa?

Can I just show them that I have the required amount in cash?

Also, on the application form, what do I use as "Date of previous visit to Thailand"?

The last date I left Thailand, or the date I entered? I think I have used the date of entry in the past without being questioned about it, but that may not be correct.

  2. I was just told by immigration when extending my ED visa that I have run out of pages to stamp and need to get a new passport by April.

I've heard you can't just add pages anymore. Is that correct?

If anyone has recent experience renewing their passport at the US embassy in Bangkok, please share.

Do they destroy the old passport but leave the visa page unharmed?

  3. 150.000 is not excessive.

A Thai friend recently organised a funeral for her sister.

    Costs were almost 400.000.

I thought people in Isaan were generally rather poor. Anyone who can spend this kind of money on a funeral is not poor by any stretch.

  4. Basic International Passport law states that you must exit a country on the passport you entered on. Additionally you must disclose (if asked) by a immigration/immigration official if you have more than 1 passport.

If you try to leave Thailand on a different passport to the one you entered in on, you will be stopped, as the entry/exit cards will not align.

I am aware that I have to enter and exit on the same passport. What matters is that it is not possible get a visa (at least not for India) attached to my second passport (the one I did not enter Thailand on). I could have still exited on passport no. 1 and then entered India on the other one, had the aforementioned practice been allowed.

Also, I have never been asked if I have more than one passport, nor have I ever heard anyone being asked this (doesn't mean it never happens, but probably not too common).

  5. I tried to get an Indian visa in my second passport a couple of years back, no joy sad.png

I suspect you'll have the same issue getting your Thai visa in India.

Best to go somewhere that needs no visa (Malaysia perhaps) so you can swap passports in the air.

Thanks, I've already booked my trip and am quite looking forward to it, so not eager to re-schedule. I am now thinking it might be okay to get another visa in the same passport since this will be the first back to back. Or how long would I have to stay there to get my status "reset"? I wouldn't necessarily mind staying there for a month or so.

  6. I am on a single entry tourist visa and will be going to India in a couple months to apply for another single entry visa. To avoid having back to back visas, I was planning on using my second passport for the next visa, but I then realized I have to get a visa for India first, and I imagine they will not issue a visa if I give them a passport that does not have a Thai entry stamp? Or would they? Also, I don't have any back to back visas in the passport I used for my most recent entry into Thailand, but I do have a couple from previous years.

  7. I did not peruse the entire thread, so sorry if I am repeating anyone's question: I am planning to apply for the METV in Phnom Penh, but my money is in a Thai bank account. Will that pose a problem? Does the money need to be in a foreign account?

Unless you are a Cambodian National you will be refused a METV which can only be obtained from an Thai Embassy/Consulate in your own home country.

Really? Wow. Looks like I'll have to change my plans. I'd still like to know though if I can use my Thai bank account when applying in my home country.

  8. Is this legit? I had no idea one could get a 5-year visa, especially if you're not working, married to Thai citizen, or retired.

If it is indeed possible to obtain such a visa, is it really 500,000 baht for 5 years? That seems outrageously expensive for what the ad says it offers. I can get a one-year visa for $200US (approximately 6,600 baht). Am I missing something in the translation?

Furthermore, is it even worth it for me to look into such a visa if I'm turning 50 next August? [note: if it really is 500,000 baht, the point is moot -- I'm not spending that kind of money on a visa unless it comes with some great perks I'm unaware of. "Fast Track" at the airport and "airport limo" are not what I consider worthwhile perks.]

But as mentioned several times in the other thread you are very lucky to have got a 1 year non-O as most countries/consulates/embassies will not issue them unless you meet the qualifying criteria. Nothing wrong with being lucky but for most others unmarried under 50 the PE is a good albeit pricey option.

Are you saying there is a visa that is only issued in the US?

  9. I naively thought I would be able to find this rather basic piece of information on the Internet, but I can't find anything that looks official although www.tourismthailand.org suggests the gates come down at 5 pm. I'm planning on making the pilgrimage up there tomorrow but want to make sure I won't have to turn back to Bangkok when I get to the entrance.

Also, I assume that once inside the park, I'll be able to roam freely like before, when the park closed at 9 pm? Anyone with current information on this?
