  1. Humans maybe finite. Is our mind, spirit , soul finite , too ?

As part of the infinite, we may also comprehend it, can´t we ?

In Buddhism there is no soul or spirit.

In Buddhism the mind (thought/memory/feeling ) is impermanent and conditioned.

How can the finite comprehend the infinite?

In terms of infinite let me relate this to nibbana.

    Formless.

    Timeless.

    Unborn therefore deathless.

    Pure awareness.

    Can you comprehend it?

Mind produced matter in a devolutionary way. After experiencing matter, we return to pure mind. Formless, timeless, deathless, for me, are nonlocal properties. Consciousness remains in quantum nonlocality. It is not confined to our brain.

And how do you know this?

  2. My first question would be: what do you expect to see?

What was the situation before you bought the HD TV?

Even you already have DVB-T2 then there are 8 HD channels.

All in Thai as far as I remember.

("already": which region do you live?).

But generally all digital signals (not only HD, whether DVB-T or satellite) are not "crap" with bad sound.

    Fairly good technical quality.

Sounds like you connect to some analog cable in an appartement or condo from one of the local amateurish cable providers?

Even worse: the house still has analog antennas. Hard to believe.

Yes, likely crap. Waste of money to connect an HD TV.

HD for foreigners is either via satellite and costly (True) or via highspeed internet (cheaper).

True HD might be available via cable in certain regions, no idea.

Thanks, I don't need much, maybe a couple news channels (in Thai and English), Discovery or Animal Planet, and of course HBO would be awesome. Not everything has to be in HD, but having a few channels in HD would be nice. I will probably invest in a Blu-ray player sooner or later so I can at least watch movies in HD.

  3. I had TRUE Sat. system in our home for the past 3 yrs. The price per month kept going up and up. I cancelled the monthly fee, bought the dish and yes, bought one of those units at 7/11. It works fantastic, I get about 40 channels in English, 20+ of them in HD also. The have various packages to choice from.

Now the best part, I work 28/28 so the month I'm home we pay 595 bhat at 7/11 for that month, end of the month it goes off, but all the local Thai crap that the wife and kids enjoy still works perfectly. One of the nicest features is the dual languge system,, if my wife really wants to see a program that is in English, a quick button and its dubbed in Thai...

How much did you pay for the dish? And did you buy it at 7/11? Which box do you have?

  4. What are you using now?

While 'some' people in Thailand only have the option of using a direct ANALOG cable feed or a set-top-box with a yellow composite video cable, if you WANT to see a great image on that HDTV set of yours then you'll need...

equipment with an HDMI connector, like a:

    Blu-ray / HD DVD Player

high-end Game Box, like XBOX, PlayStation, Wii, etc.

Computer to play games, DVDs, Blu-ray or Downloaded shows

HDMI stick (think: chromecast, roku, android, etc)

    Android Box

    iptv set-top-box

    DVB-T2 (also known as a Terrestrial over-the-air set-top-box -- if your TV doesn't have a T2 tuner already)

    DVB-S2 (also known as a Satellite set-top-box)

DVB-C2 (also known as a Digital Cable Box)

** NOTE: Not all video is delivered in 720/1080 HD resolution as most material out there is still SD, but even the SD lower-res stuff look pretty good when using the special HDMI cable connections)

Thanks, Rich. I don't know what I have now, but judging by the picture quality, it's an analog signal. I don't know what the best option would be for me, but I'll probably look at one of the DVB boxes.

  5. Just bought a nice new TV, but it's being fed a signal that makes the picture look like crap. Even the sound is pretty bad.

I've seen these digital boxes for sale at Seven Eleven, but not sure if they put out a higher resolution signal. Also, which, if any, channels are available in HD? I would appreciate some information on this.

  6. I am planning on applying for a tourist visa using my second passport. On the application form one has to state "Date of a previous visit to Thailand", but if I answer truthfully, it will become apparent that I am now using a different passport. While that may technically be legal, will the consular clerk not question why the stated date does not match the one in my passport?

Also, if I am renting an apartment in Thailand, is it risky to state that as my "Place to stay in Thailand", or should I put the name of a hotel since I am supposed to be a tourist?

Lastly, are there any embassies/consulates in SE Asia to avoid for tourist visas? I am thinking of going to either Phnom Penh or Vientiane, though I just noticed the visa applications are "usually processed within 72 hours" in PP, which seems a little long. Am I likely to get my visa faster elsewhere?

  7. America is embarking on a campaign to dominate planet earth. The war that America is fighting in the Middle East is about taking the oil from the Arabs ? No ?

Please name me one time that America has taken anyone's oil whether by war or other means. Your tinfoil hat is leaking.

Religion can be a good thing if it's an individual thing and it causes someone to strive to be better. The problem with religion is that some man gets ahold of it and then goes for control of other people.

I was going to ask you how old you are but, then realized, that's not an excuse.

And please don't come back at me to site you instances.

You've got a lot of "learnin" to do...

    facepalm.gif

That's a great way to argue your case.

Hey, space aliens are currently planning to conquer planet Earth and enslave all of humanity. If you think otherwise, you have a lot of learning to do facepalm.gif

  8. This is nonsensical. So you have to sign up your girlfriend to the site, and then

her other sponsors have to sign her up too so you can see them ? What the

bleep are the odds of that ?? Instead, buy a iphone. Put in tracking software,

and then give it to her with a big smile. Problem solved....

This was also my immediate thought.

There are other ways to keep track too. A lot depends if she is a long term g/f.

Yet, if you met her in a bar, would you really expect her to go home and stay with her parents while you are away?

I explained one time to a bar girl about hidden tracking software in an iphone.

She was amazed as she had no idea. I laughingly told her to never ever accept

an iphone as a present from a farang, and if she did the trick was to take it to

a shop and do a complete reset on it....

    Whose side are you on?!

  9. My wife is Thai and I am a farang. We had a marriage ceremony in her village for her mother (she wanted to show-off to family/friends) and I gave her mother $100K as it is a Thai custom (like it or not).

My wife and I agreed to $100K and no more. $100K is reasonable and I never saw any of it back.

    cheesy.gif , $100,000..............cheesy.gif .................w00t.gif ............Crazy.............coffee1.gif

A Lot of guys use the '$' when they mean the '฿' ... it sort of looks the same.

    .

Aside from the vertical strikethrough, they look nothing like each other, in my opinion. Bon of a sitch...

  10. My answer is... If i were cheating on my husband I will pay husband double of SinSod for divorce because the guy who can made me cheat on my husband will have to be 10times better than him.

PS. I will go with my new husband and give him cash infront of everyone. And say"Tip 4millions baht for you"

    :-)

Thank you very much. You have proven once again why I would never marry a woman of any nationality.

Is this why you have the word "cheater" in your username?

What it takes to get a woman away from her husband is simply to have a lot more money. Nice.

Who dont want money? My answer is maybe animal.

"Cheater" on my username? You will never knew what this mean because of your usernane...Nerver sure

    :-)

This may be an alien concept to you, but to some people, loyalty is actually more important than money.

  11. I think it needs to be a mega thrust quake to really generate a tsunami.

Like 8+ or something like that.

The Richter scale is log10, so an 8 magnitude is 10 times greater than 7 magnitude.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale

    Greatest recorded quakes . . .

What's critical is whether the earth quake happens in a subduction zone or not.

So then poster, you think a 14 year old is mature enough to make big decisions like that ? Wow, you have a lot of growing up yourself.

If it's truly consensual, I see no problem with it, aside from all the problems that come with virtually all marriages.

Nayet, As I am sure you and your pals Jimmy, Gary and Rolf have held regular discussions on this topic, it would be difficult to change your mind.

For the rest of the readers, lets just remember Paedophilia is a touchy subject!

My post was not an endorsement of the above or any other relationship/marriage between an adult and a child. I am also not suggesting that we can blindly trust the word of a child who says a relationship or marriage is consensual. To suggest that I am a pedophile, or that I am giving the thumbs up to the likes of Rolf Harris is obviously a knee-jerk reaction and not the result of rational thought. I am fairly confident that my feelings toward child molesters are not much different from yours.

Seems to most of us that was an endorsement of the relationship. Did you not say "as long as it was consenual I don't see a problem"? The girl is 14 now and they have been dating for 3 years since she was what 11? That is way below the law for legal consensual sex in Thailand and therefore statutory rape.In the case of the 14 year old even Thai law says she must be 15 years old to be legally able to give consent. Before that its statutory RAPE. Each country makes thier own rules on what the age of consent is. Thailand 15, certain prefectures in Japan 13 and different states in USA have different age.

The rules are made because the child is not considered mature enough to make that decision , would be very easy to suduce a child with gifts, money affection thats why rules are made.

How can I endorse it if I don't know whether the girl really wanted to get married? Like I said in another post, it's hard to know how she truly felt about it, regardless of what it says in the news article.

What's your point anyway? That you would have been okay with it had they married in Japan?

Some may be mature enough, some may not. The point is, it's not for me to say. I have seen some 50-year-olds who don't seem mature enough to make such decisions, but does that mean anyone else should have the right to prevent them from getting married?

  15. "In Thai, they say that the women are the back legs of the elephant. I agree. If they stopped working, the country would grind to a halt."

I asked my (Thai) girlfriend about this expression, and according to her it means that Thai women follow their men, not that they are supporting them. But she may be wrong.
