Bangkok cabbies must get meters officially adjusted to new fares
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Correction: And possibly tampered with later. -
They do x-ray your luggage at Swampy. I was stopped once by customs and the knew what was in my bag before I opened it. In my case I was lucky & there was nothing to pay. They had thought that I was carrying car parts which are taxable, but I was carrying motorcycle parts which apparently are not taxable. I guess these looked similar on the x-ray.

Isn't this a re-run of last year's story? And the year before's, and the year before's, and the year before's, etc. Such good news though, and we can all sleep soundly in our beds without any illegal prostitutes to keep us up all night....

Navy Wants To Raise Sunken Warship For Return To Service
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Perhaps re-inboatnation in this case? Even if salvaged, I can't see HTMS 442 Sukhothai ever being a popular posting if returned to service! -
Thailand set to start collecting 300 THB tourist fee from June
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That exit fee still exists. It is now incorporated into the cost of the ticket. So Thailand gets you on the way in and on the way out. Plus everything else in between!- 135 replies

Firstly, really good report Spambot & many thanks for that. In the past I have successfully crossed Thailand-Cambodia-Thailand same day at Poipet. No questions asked or other hassles from the Thai or Khmer IO's, as I recall the queues were the biggest problem. I have certainly not heard of the B300 scam to let you go back same day, but I guess the Khmer IO's are losing tea money of B100 per tourist because of people buying online visas (they would always add B100 to the visa fee) and need want to make it up somehow. That said, my last same day out-in was a few years back, so I guess things have changed and I shall not try that again.

Many Brits are unsympathetic toward Prince Harry !
Homburg replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The writer of "Spare" doesn't seem to understand, Harry has not got the "booby prize", he has hit the jackpot. Being monarch in the UK is just a chore. The Monarch has to commit all his/her time but has no power. Harry on the other hand has the title, has the prestige, the money & the lifestyle and only a very small risk of having to become monarch. What's not to like? The book shows that the writer does not understand the UK Monarchy. Harry should certainly understand it, so that suggests someone else really wrote the book. I wonder who? -

So a viral story on social media led to her being arrested. Why could the "smart" car not have tracked her down in the previous 1315 days?

Homburg replied to homeseeker's topic in Health and Medicine
It certainly brings unwelcome challenges, but all things considered, it beats the alternative. -

Phuket Immigration announces results of their recent overstay crackdown
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
A laudable objective and catching a 63-year-old American for a truly despicable eight days of overstaying shows that they are well on their way! A magnificent achievement guys. Any chance of some branch of law enforcement tackling the local criminals ripping off the law-abiding tourists? No, thought not.- 72 replies

Just now: Big fire on Sukhumvit Soi 3 near the traffic lights
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It is probably not possible to see the east side of Soi3 from the police box as there is a Skytrain support pillar in front of the box, but the BIB are probably not interested anyway. No money in it. -
Covid-Infected Thai Man Found Dead On Flight From Saudi Arabia
Homburg replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
RIP Mr Bahem Saeso. Since when is 71 "elderly"? -
I was there two weeks ago. The food is still good and it is still open 24h. The menu pictured is in fact only part of their full menu. There are also folder type menus with pictures of the food and which contain more dishes, but these are not all the same! The contents, language (some have Thai and English, some are only in Thai) and prices vary, so if you are looking for something not on the standard menu then perhaps consult more than one of the folders and check the prices when ordering.

interpretation of "admitted until" date
Homburg replied to TonyBB's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Plus your flight need not depart before 24:00, it can leave after midnight (so 1am, 2am, etc.), you just need to pass through immigration and be stamped out on or before the date. -
Thai PM urged to reconsider decriminalisation of cannabis
Homburg replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There is apparently no truth in the rumour that fierce opposition to the decriminalisation of cannabis is being orchestrated by the booze industry, worried about its potential loss of sales & profits. -
A big brown envelope would be my guess.
