I would say its Germanys turn again to win. Very simple reason. We win the world cup every 20 years
1954, 1974, 1990 ( 4 years early ) and now to get back on track: 2014 .
Just thought to bring this thread back up

Up until this morning it said...drumroll please:
3am.

Scarf, I believe you have the kickoff time wrong for this game. From what I researched it starts at 2am.
-
Can't wait
I don't think the German defense will be high up in the pitch as when they played Algeria...so Manuel Neuer will probably not be needed as a sweeper
-
Algeria had early chances to really rattle the Germans but could not take them. Once Germany settled the ship in the 2nd half you felt a German win was inevitable. Algeria took them to extra time and really made them work for it. Neure had to make several dashes outside the area to clear as Algeria exposed the pedestrian German central defence repeatedly.
Welcome to the future of soccer. It looked like the German central defenders were sleeping, but if you watch closely, they were always high up in the pitch...higher up than a usual central defender. Mainly to assist opening the game. This is only possible with Neuer as a goalie. Germany has many many other great and talented goalkeepers, but the coach chose Neuer for his playing style...an active goalkeeper. You'll see more of these "exposed" defenses...especially when other teams catch on to it or use it as another tactical option.
If you really recap the game, how many CLEAR chances did Algeria have? And with clear chances I don't mean " if Neuer wouldnt have stood where he was" or "the defender made a last second block"....not too many. Maybe 3 at most ( including the 1 they scored ).

Ok, I rearranged a few things. Thanks for the hint that now 6 players from a country can be picked. For some reason I thought I read 4 players and picked only 4. But with your note, I changed my lineup again. Let's see if I can move up a bit in the world ranking
-
Well, that makes me feel a bit better for being only average in this group. Looks like there are a few knowledgeable guys in the group

I picked 3 too many japanese players. I thought they would do good this world cup. I'll have to do some transfers pretty soon....
-
I'll watch it, but dude, isn't Klose already too old now? I think it's more a legend what he once was, not who he is now.
Well, I am glad I don't have to do the talking for him. Klose answered your question 2 minutes after entering the field
But in all seriousness, he may be old and MAY not be able to bring 100% over 90 minutes. But he sure can play 45 minutes and make a mess in the opponents defense. It's always been fun watching him play over the years.
Nevertheless, it was a great 2nd half. I missed most of the 1st half...but from what I heard, it wasn't that good of a first half anyways.

Unfortunately the game is at a bad time. Too late to stay up for it and too early to wake up for it. Weeeeell, maybe I will wake up for it. It would be the first German world cup match I will miss since 1994 .
I think it will be a good match.
The German lineup will probably be the same as in the Portugal match. I just hope that Klose will get at least 30 minutes of playing time.

oh, slow start for me. It will get better

All Tv off
in Isaan
I did close the restaurant around 8:30 - 9:00 instead of 10pm to give the staff enough time to drive home.so can anyone tell me was the curfew imposed in places like Surin and Ubon last night.
I also noticed a sign on the makro entrance door...it was written in Thai, but they shortened their opening hours to 8pm ( instead of 10 pm ).
I also did notice much fewer cars driving along the busy Uppalisan road after 10pm.
So I would say it is being enforced.
This is in ubon by the way.

In at Peppers yesterday morning and it was good to have a decent breakfast with all the trimmings. My Son had the curry chicken pie and he had to go back and get a second one. Still is the best place in Ubon for a breakfast and good coffee. Thanks for the fantastic cake you made for my wedding Julian. It was a hit.

Thank you John. I am glad it was a hit . Good luck to you and your wife in Prachuap Khiri Khan ( Yes, I had to google the spelling of that area )
Will you make Jaegerschnitzel as well? We were talking about it and I'd like to let my wife taste it as well. And do you make mashed potatoes??
And fried potatoes, also called Bratkartoffeln?
I love that with a lot of fried onions on top of the mashed potatoes. If possible, would you please send me a copy of your new menu card?
Does the Stir Moose with Sirchai sauce come with potato salad, or French Fries?
Thanks in advance. Cheers- alt=thumbsup.gif>
We actually had Fried Potatoes / Brat Kartoffeln a few weeks ago as a special instead of the Potato Salad. We will have constantly changing specials that will include things like Meat Loaf, Pork Roast, Stuffed Peppers, ST Louis style BBQ Ribs and maaaaaany more goodies. Some of those dishes will have the Brat Kartoffeln or Mashed Potatoes with them.
We can make a Jaegerschnitzel "on the fly"...shouldn't be a problem. The trick is, catching my dad or brother in a good mood .
And yes, I will send you a copy of the new menu. I just need to snap a couple more pictures and it will be finally be released.

I would like to chime in to this "discussion" and hopefully sort out all confusion / misunderstanding and come back on topic.
We are currently working on changing / improving Peppers for the better. There are and will be hick-ups along the road that will get sorted out with time. The menu and layout is still the same as before when John owned Peppers. In the past months we have been working behind the scenes on getting everything done to roll out a perfect menu. There are many things that take into account in getting this done and unfortunately quite a bit of it is out of our hands. We upgraded the kitchen equipment to bring it to our standards ( which took time to find the that equipment ). Then we needed to boost the electricity for the kitchen, so we had to find a GOOD electrician ( please dont laugh...we actually did find one. Yes, we hit the lottery ). However, that took a while. We need to train the cooks and servers about all the new food they have never seen and heard of before. Last but not least, we have to write the menu and have it translated in Thai as well.
With all that being said, we were running many different specials over the last ~8 weeks, where somebody may have been here and gotten a different menu card / Specials page than someone that came in a week later. These specials were all things we will put on the menu, but want to familiar the staff with these items and make sure we have the correct tools and china/silverware etc. to actually provide a flawless rollout of the new menu...of the new Peppers.
We want to create something for just about all nationalities. Which brings me to my topic....us, the current owners.
My dad, Gerhard, spent his entire life/career moving around and learning cuisines of many different countries. He has worked 40+ years at various hotels / restaurants and even had restaurants of his own. Germany, where he was born and raised and learned the old traditional way of cooking. After completing 3 year cooking and baking School he started working and gaining experience in hotels and took the opportunity to work in countries like England, Croatia, Australia, Mexico, France, US and now Thailand...a whole new, fun, interesting experience / adventure.
His kids ( me, Julian ), I was born in Germany and shortly after moved to Mexico where I lived for about 2 years. There I learned how to walk and my first language actually is Spanish. My brother Fabian was born in Mexico. After that we moved to the US, California where I went to Pre School and started getting Accustomed to Wonderbread / Peanut Butter and Jelly, Burgers, Pizza etc. Also, my last brother, Uriel was born in California. Then we moved to Colorado and Idaho before moving back to Germany, where me and my brothers got a first and "minor" culture shock and adapted fairly well to it. I stopped playing american football and baseball and started playing soccer/football which I love to this day. Anyways, there we started getting accustomed to traditional German things like Breads, cakes pastries, food, punctuality and quite a few other things...but at the same time were lucky enough to have known a different "world". I for myself always tried to learn and keep the good things I learned from growing up in different countries.
What I am getting at, Peppers is NOT a german Restaurant, it is NOT an American Restaurant, it is NOT a Mexican Restaurant, it is NOT a Thai Restaurant. We are working towards building an INTERNATIONAL Restaurant and that each of the different countries dishes will taste as authentic as possible. The Peppers owners have different citizenships, experiences and tastes. We want everyone to be able to come here and find something on the menu they can "connect" with...just like we do and did growing up. And since we are in Thailand and always eager to learn new things, we will obviously have an extensive Thai menu for people who would like to try something new and / or bring in their Thai wives or villages
Moose, I am sorry that you had a cold coffee and "a German Burrito". As in any business, sometimes something doesn't work well and is not up to our standards / expectations. We do need everyones help with certain things like when receiving a cold coffee. I would have been happy to get you a fresh cup of hot coffee. I just need to know about it. But also being a place that is specialized in coffees over so many years, we should get it right the fist time...for that I am sorry. The "German Burrito" is a bit tricky to make like we were used to in Mexico and California, but even this minor obstacle we will over come.
Beer on tap is not an easy thing to get in Thailand, so we will switch to having a larger variety of bottled beers soon.
SirChai, thank you very much for your support and I am glad you enjoyed the food. I am sorry about your uncle in-laws passing, but hope things will getter soon.
So, lets please stop this "bread war", "nations war", "good food / bad food war", as every country his their owns tastes and good and things / habits. Let's get back on topic and talk about the foods people miss here, that they enjoyed growing up back home...without insulting the others persons taste / preference.
Sorry for the long post, but it was just sad where the topic was heading.

Thank you Mike. I am glad you enjoyed it. Things are finally moving along a lot faster and we are starting to get things done. Finalizing the last bits of the menu and then focus on the bakery part and on the planned "small" remodel/redesign. The bar is almost ready and fully stocked to quench anybodys thirst and taste.
Is the Peppers bakery making any German style breads yet? Julian, the owner said he was considering the option.
Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile appYes sir, we are making the German style bread already. We are still working out the "problem" with how much to bake at a time. We want to sell it as fresh as possible, but obviously not bake too much at once. We'll figure something out.
Also, we got a few bags of imported flour delivered today and will have something to play around with to offer a variety of good breads.
A deli counter is in the works as well .

Yes, I made a mistake. Unfortunately I cant find how to edit my post...so here the revised version.
My brother received his work permit and they validated it until may 5th ( which is the same date as his permission to stay stamp in his passport ). We asked to get a 1 year work permit, but they refused to do it.
What I am thinking of doing now, is just trying my / his luck and go to Phibun and talk with the immigration officer and see if we can extend the current visa another year or apply for a new 1 year multiple non-b. Maaaaaybe, just maybe, he can get a new visa that way. Worst case scenario would only be a 'can not', right?
If that doesn't work I'll probably seek help from a lawyer, which I still don't have a good one yet .
-
So, quick update.
My brother just picked up his work permit and validated it until May 5th ( same as his permit to stay stamp in the passport ). They refused to give him a 1 year Visa.

Thanks for all your help and information so far Ubonjoe.
we received our Visa for the first time from the US in March 2013. Non immigrant B and have to do border runs every 90 days
-
The problem with the duration of the work permit is that for some reason they give you a work permit for 30 days and then you have to go there again and they will give it to you until your Visa expires. This has been the case with me and it also happened to others that I spoke to about this.
I wish he will receive the 1 year work permit, but realistically speaking, I think he will get a work permit issued either until March 19th ( Visa Expires ) or May 5th ( entry stamp expiration ). When we pick up the work permit and it will only be valid for said dates, I'll try and see if I can get it for one year.
Let's say the work permit situation works out, he will leave the country to apply for a new non-immigrant B Visa after his current one expires. You mentioned he will have to go to Penang ( or some western countries ). Why cant he go to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane for example?
-
Ok, so a little update. We applied for his work permit today and according to the person who accepted and looked over the information the work permit should be ready for pick up in 3-4 days. We'll go there on monday and hopefully pick it up.
Now, assuming he gets his work permit that will probably valid for 30 days, from what I understand he needs to leave the country to apply for his a new non-b? visa
It is not possible to apply for this type of Visa from within Thailand?

That is basically what I was about to write as well.
I just looked at the video several times. normal speed and slo mo. I clearly went for the ball, which he accomplished AND got there first. I do not think Neuers leg/knee lifting was an intend to injure Higuain, but more to protect himself. If he didnt lift his leg, his whole upper body would have been exposed without any protection...at the speed and force the collision happened, with an exposed uppbody, Neuer would of most certainly suffered some sort of injury....broken rib(s) perhaps?
Neuer aimed for the ball, got there first and protected himself.
Higuain was trying to get to the ball first, didn't succeed and then collided with Neuer.
Why should a penalty/freekick been awarded? Or even a card given to Neuer?
