Happened again, and I have to quit the job because I knew that I was going to react bad next time......But...if I was Thai...... other history... After many years living here I learned that ...unfortunately...most Thai people are not very inclined to dialog and compromise...and just acts.. provoking and testing a physical response or some kind of confrontation.

No. I was teaching art.... for free...but my English is better than many Thai teachers... at least in that particular school...

Last week at the local expat meeting I had the information that Chinese companies are buying and renting land and planting banana for export. In most tropical countries banana plantations needs control from local authorities to avoid environmental damage. Banana grows spontaneously invading and destroying other crops, and it is very difficult, if not impossible. to eradicate, specially when invading mountain areas.The mountain areas heading to Pushifa are becoming a nice coffee plantation community, and may be affected in the future. Already some areas are having problems with water diverted to the banana plantations. I do not know if the Chiang Rai Government is aware of the situation.

I beg to differ about the education or world traveler thing. Just last night we piled in the big Everest to go and eat seafood by the seashore, brother in law, sister in law, their three kids ages 3, 6, and 7, my wife, and the mother in law. Now all but mom and children are graduate holders of master's degrees, my wife has travelled over seas on numerous occasions, and sister in law did her masters in Australia. I digress, before having children the SL was quite soft spoken like my wife, but I'll tell you what last night for the 30 minutes drive to and from the restaurant, I was treated to the most grating cacophony of noise I can remember in recent history. Mom, wife and SL yapping away about this and that food and what the kids will and won't eat all the while kids doing what they do. My sweet mild soft spoken wife wasn't nearly the Match for mom and SL, but she was getting a few chops in of her own.

I am left to consider this, could being a mother have something to do with it? Dad just drove the car while I sat in the front seat, both of us in silence.

One further point, they are from the south of Thailand and I find southern Thai to be especially annoying.

College, University, or superior education is not what I was referring to. Family education is what matter most, in any culture and country, not always related with school. Particularly, I think that when an Asian women is "educated" is absolutely delightful to the senses in every way and occasion

It is all matter of education. More educated Thai women do not speak loudly or like a child...specially is they are world travelers.

Very sad and interesting at the same time...
For the last 50 years the US propaganda were saying that life in Cuba is so bad that most Cubans wanted to leave at any cost, and the Cuban Government was blocking Its citizens to leave the country.
That was just a big lie! I have many Cuban friends studying in Europe.
Like in any other country Cubans have to apply for visas and show travel reservations and proof of income. Many are traveling to Europa and other countries, but was not easy or impossible to get visa to the US. Why? Because many Cubans were applying for "refugee" status getting very good US Government Benefits.... and some getting illegal "jobs" to supplement it. In Cuba drugs dealing and prostitution it is a serious crime.
Now....when diplomatic relations are getting normalized, those future "refugees" knows that very soon will not get that kind of "welcome" from the US Government anymore. No free money, no free housing, no easy jobs...nothing. Now they are showing the real reason why they were risking their lives to reach the US. In Cuba is not welfare, unemployment, Section 8, food stamps, etc, etc, but there are free good education, good health services, housing, to the ones willing to accept jobs available to anyone, and to work. Now, no options anymore for a free ride in the US.
And...the Havana Airport still showing a large banner to its visitors...
"IN CUBA NO CHILDREN ARE SLEEPING ON THE STREETS"

Many "all you can eat" places have a policy... At the time of the bill, any food left in plates will get a charge "a la carte"..and it is not cheap, like the Andaman Sea Food Buffet in Chaing Mai.

Probably this place..or the Chinese.... learned a lesson. Anyway was disgusting behavior.

For many people Thailand is Pattaya.....and the USA is Las Vegas...

For others..Thailand is Chiang Rai...and the USA is San Diego.

Given the circumstances, they did all the rights things and kudos to the Navy for rescuing them. I don't suppose Thailand has anything like the RNLI in the UK.

Charts and proper equipment aboard are required. His error was not reading the charts, and going on luck. Depths and obstructions (large rocks) would be on the chart. Tide schedules are also critical, if sailing by your britches. He would still have his boat, if he took precautions.

He had the equipment...but failed to read his chart....which I have often neglected to do (and paid the price in keel damages).

Cost him an expensive yacht....a pretty grievous error.

A scary situation, sure..An expensive loss I doubt. Yacht insurance usually covers a lot more that the sale price if it is an older one. Only if was a new one. but I doubt too. A new boat may have GPS and radar on board......

Trump is a con artist, very smart one. He will change positions many more times, just to reach new supporters. He never offered any real solution to the US and World issues in terrorism and war. The Homeland security tax is a scam, because no country can stop terrorism. There are so many ways to " invade" a country, cross borders, infiltrate Governments, that it is not possible to stop somebody to do it, specially a suicide bomber. I am not a terrorist but I know how. I am Mexican/American. Imagine a real terrorist, with a lot of money, and motivation? Only a country in War, under Martial Law, a Police State, like East Germany after WW2, may be willing to control it someway, but It is not the case of the United States...yet....only after Trump becomes President.

The only way to avoid terrorism, infiltration, illegal immigration, crime, violence, etc, it is ending with MOTIVATION.....Building walls is not the way to do it, killing "enemies" or torturing them is not the way to do it, creating misery in other countries is not the way to do it, showing how to "succeed" in life with scams, bankruptcies, and greed, it is not the way to do it. Australian breed dogs pure or mixed, are very common in Thailand.

To export, my opinion is that the best Australian breed is the Basenji.

Those two things are simply insurmountable going into the general election, if he's nominated.

Will be a miracle if Sander is nominated by the Dem party. Also will be a miracle if Trump get the nomination when the Rep party will do everything to avoid that. If Trump get the nomination, running against Clinton, he will have a big chance to win the election, but if he have to face Sanders, anything can happens. The only way for Clinton to win will be with Sanders support and campaigning for her, but that may not happens.

Unfortunately, Trump or Clinton are very bad choices for the Presidency of the United States.

I just finished reading his website. A very sad history. Ironically he left behind a very important document for medical research.

He was suffering many serious medical issues, but also combined with a bipolar mental disorder. Bipolar disorder can be very productive or very destructive condition, depending of its treatment. Unfortunately he didn't had the best treatment and counseling...and he forgot to research what most psychologists will do when a patient will declare its suicidal intentions. Just to avoid facing professional liability, psychologists will report it to authorities, that most of the times will not provide good treatment, just taking restrain measures.

Looks like he was a very smart "inventor". The world still remember famous inventors and scientist, many people with amazing skills in every field, that motivated and inspired generations. Many, if not most of them, were suffering for bipolar disorder. The most recent, Apple's Steve Jobs.

This young man probably was on the right place to find emotional and spiritual help, even medical help, but sometimes hope alone it is not strong enough to make people keep searching for a "miracle". Pain is not a good counselor.

Are you referring to the over "10 million illegal immigrants" from Mexico and Central America that the current administration has allowed to stay in the US. If there is a race war it will be because Obama has fanned the flames with his stance on black lives matter.

Not sure if it's unworkable but I am more concerned with the drug cartels and the porous border infecting the youth of America than looking politically correct. I would not be against Mexican immigrants being processed properly through access points in the wall if there is one built. You can tell me if you think that is unreasonable.

It is not possible to block illegal border crossing, just make it more difficult. With money everything is possible, and that apply to drug dealers and terrorist groups. Corruption is also big problem in the US. Money talks.

Most of "trespassers" are farming workers without job and living in misery in South America, and those people are VERY necessary to the US Economy. California is the richest state in America, and the # 8 World Economy, and it population is 50% Hispanic. No other people is willing to work on the fields of America for minimum wages, when the US unemployment and welfare government benefits brings more than a minimum wage job.

The same is already happening in Europe and that was the main reason by Germany accepted Syrian refugees.... Looking for low income laborers. The only and big difference is that Mexicans are hard working people, without political and religious issues.

One of the reasons why factories are leaving the US to use cheap labor, is exactly because its cannot find enough cheap labor in the US. Trump wants those factories back, at the same time he wants to deport the cheap laborers. He may get some robotic equipped factories, but not the ones using human hands. Immigration strict control it is important, but to deport millions of necessary workers just because are not properly documented do not make any sense. By the way, most Trump's proposals doesn't make any sense, and he is not talking about the billionaires's control and monopoly of the economy because he is part of the clan. He is using pure Demagogy targeting the worst of the US sentiments that, unfortunately, is a common "virtue" in more than 50% of the American population. Trump may win the Presidency, with a nasty fight, not only with the Democrats, also with his own party. A shame.

I do not know about other nationalities, but in case of a US citizen is necessary to state its condition (single, divorced, widow) at the Embassy's certification to get Foreign Dept Certification, and to show translated divorce or wife's dead certifications at the Amphur to get a marriage certificate.

At the same time, many offices offering the services for about 2000 THB, do not care about, just filling SINGLE on the applications to avoid more paperwork and cost. Your choice, but I do not recommend that.
