    Its normal to request special meals in advance on airlines, at least that's my experience. You can do it under 'manage my booking.'

    Yes, agreed. The sausage rolls and chicken puffs in the Thai lounge are the same as you can get in 7-11. It's a shame on this thread that I'm not allowed to say that the food in The Qatar lounge last week was outstanding, the lamb cutlets were to die for.

    Pretty much everything you describe has happened to me all over Thailand. I worked in Bangkok, horrible place to get around.

    Stick to main areas during daylight, should be absolutely no problem. You’ll come across check points, but they will just wave you through.

    I think the main difference is that in the south ‘foreigners’ are not the target, actually quite the opposite as if one were to be harmed it would be very detrimental to the insurgent groups from all angles.

    Keep your distance from the security forces who are the real target and you will be fine. Its a nice part of the world with a real different cultural feel than the rest of the country.

    I actually notice everything, its because I live here. Thats quite different from you and your ilk who live in the middle of nowhere in your dilapidated houses that you share with old battle axe wives (usually the village reject that everyone has had a go on until you turned up) just wishing you had the money to live somewhere else. touche
