  1. Hard to believe we are living in a so-called "modern" world with this kind of nonsense still going on. The religious fundamentalists in the middle east have far more in common with their western religious fundamentalist counterparts than either side would ever care to admit.
  2. You don't need a computer shop for this, very likely such places don't even exist anymore. You can get everything you need off the internet.
  3. I'm not saying this is what happened, but that's exactly what would happen if you visited an impostor bank web site. It will steal all your credentials and before you know it, your bank account it drained. I'd suggest you call your bank ASAP and hopefully you can sort this out. Another possibility is your bank does not allow connections from Thailand. Get yourself a VPN if that's the case.
  4. I bought an EV because I have excess solar capacity. I've only ever charged my car at home, total cost so far is 0. Once they figure out many of aren't even paying for charging, they'll surely figure out another way to tax us.
  5. I really suck at video games. Always have, ever since playing Pac Man in the 80s. I'm getting on in years now so it seems unlikely I will improve much at this point. The solution for me was not hardware (I have the highest spec gaming PC you could build as of a year ago). Instead, I just play different games. I can't get past the second mission in GTA5, but I can beat Portal 2. It's objectively a far simpler game, but it is challenging enough to keep me interested, and the psychological reward for beating the game is still quite nice. I recently discovered playing online games as part of a team can be a lot of fun and rewarding. I can take on a role within the team which doesn't require as much skill and dexterity, such as medic or scout. Population: One on the Quest is probably my favorite team game.
  6. A couple years ago I bought 5gm of raw Tadalafil powder from a China supplier on Alibaba for US$60. They shipped it discretely, so no import certificate was required. Then I bought a huge bag of empty gelcaps and a cheap 0.001gm scale from Alibaba. Works like a charm and waaaaaaaaay cheaper then buying pills. I don't recommend anyone do this because there are a number of risks when buying something like this. So don't do it, mmm-kaay?
  7. Wow, that brings back memories! Last time I heard that quote was 1995.
  8. I faced a similar situation when upgrading mine. There are no shops here offering an array of "pro level" studio monitors where you can A/B test. So I did my research, watched YT reviews, emailed a couple friends who work in studios. I probably could have gone to BKK to review in person and purchase, but ended up making an online purchase. Yamaha HS7I. Excellent speakers.
  9. I have a friend who has a ChatGPT agent "best friend". It has a name and a personality. He consults with it for all his life and business decisions, it even gives him spiritual and financial advice. He can't be persuaded to switch to Claude or Gemini because he fears losing his best friend. I think he's totally lost the plot.... I personally went from ChatGPT to Claude, to Deepseek, then back to Claude, and now testing Gemini. I am brand agnostic, I will work with whatever does the job best. I also host my own opensource models on my PC, although apart from making pretty images, they aren't remotely as powerful as the big boys. Pro tip, never pay more than a month at a time for any of these (if you pay at all). If you pay for a full year you will watch all the other agents leapfrog yours and you'll be stuck.
  10. My (thai) wife and I have talked about this before. She is well educated, outspoken, catwalk-model quality beautiful, and independent minded. Most Thai guys shyed away from her when she was younger, or the guys she was interested in turned out to be of "lower status" than herself and it was evident that it could never be a well balanced relationship. So she moved abroad, and found me. I have never had any interest in western women, and as a horny teenager growing up in a culturally segregated area in the west, this was immensely frustrating. But curiously, and I still don't understand why, western women have never ever shown any interest in me either. I'm 60 now and have never once dated or had sex with a western woman. I'm a nerd, mildly socially awkward, reasonably good looking, but short by western standards (173cm). I'm also highly educated, artistic mind-set, health conscious, I was a successful tech entrepreneur, and retired in my 40s. My wife and I were married within 3 months of our first date. We knew we had found the right partner. We're married 24 years now, living in Thailand, and still in love. We've had ups and downs, but the one thing which keeps us sane is we accidentally (and independently) discovered we both are polyamorous. We both have had side-giks now for well over a decade. Both of our current side partners are also married and in poly relationships. I'm not talking about sex parties, orgies or 3sums, I am talking about genuine emotional relationships. My wife and I talk openly about our side relationships and always work to balance and maintain our primary relationship. It's hard to avoid jealousy, it takes work. It is not something I recommend for everyone, but for us it saved our marriage. And we're both having the best sex of our lives, just not always with each other. Sadly, polyamory is not something we can not discuss openly with our friends and family, particularly amongst Thai people in Thailand. That said, it is no longer surprising to me to meet other couples who are also poly. It's way more common that you might expect.
  11. Just for your reference, I have an older Mac M2 model, and it plays Cyberpunk 2077 (a very CPU/GPU intensive game) natively at an equal framerate as my Intel 13th gen + RTX4090. The graphics on the wintel are marginally better, but otherwise zero difference. After much A/B testing I stuck with the Mac just for convenience as it's my daily machine while my wintel only gets booted up to play Steam games. Hopefully more games will be ported over to macos. Macs today can absolutely compete on that front. But for the moment, if you're a gamer, wintel is still the way.
  12. I remember that. There also used to be quite a number of businesses around that same area with hebrew-only signage, and they all seem to be gone now. Probably all moved to Pai. There is a new hummus place near Tapae Gate tho.... yum!! I never experienced any particular issues with Israelis, even in Pai. Perhaps because I am in my 60s and am invisible to everyone under 30. Frankly, I'm happier to see there are far fewer oblivious Chinese tourists meandering around the old town.
  13. I used to enjoy his videos when he started out on his scooter around Thailand - still figuring out his presentation style. Once he found it, however, it was definitely not appealing to me. A little too much slick BBC narration style with very little substance. He was literally racing through areas and stopping at a couple random cafes and not spending any time in these areas whatsoever. A complete waste of my time if I had assumed I was going to learn anything about these places. The final straw for me was when he visited the Azores and constantly complained about how difficult it was to get around, so he stayed in his hotel and never saw anything of interest, all because he didn't have a car driver license. Dude, if you want the job of travel vlogger then, step 1: learn how to drive a car. Sheeesh.
  14. What is the cost of the generic? I was prescribed 5mg Cialis but can't justify the cost of taking it every day, hopefully maybe I could if the generic is cheaper.
  15. Lucky you. I haven't noticed any at my house. Mind you, I wasn't really looking. I'll go look tonight. There's a village outside of BKK which has millions of them. You can take a small boat down a canal and you'll see hundreds of trees, each lit up by tens of thousands of these bugs. And all blinking in unison like xmas tress lights. It's quite a sight to see.
  16. I was told the only MRI option in Chiang Mai is at Sriphat Imaging Center. I recently did a lower torso scan there, it was about 40,000 baht all in, i am sure it can be done cheaper if you do out-patient. I left with a CD-ROM of the images. I don't know if you can walk-in and talk to someone about arranging a scan without a doctor referral, but they do have a reception desk and helpful staff there.
  17. I've experienced the same when building my new PC last year. Had to purchase the motherboard, CPU, RAM, keyboard, mouse, and SSD in the USA and carry it all here. Monitor and case purchased in Thailand although the monitor I wanted was not available in Thailand so I had to settle for a lesser spec. Curiously, the RTX4090 I also purchased in Thailand, as it was not only cheaper than the USA (at that time), but also in stock. Last month I bought a set of 5 x 20TB HD for my NAS. Cost in Thailand was 50% over the Amazon.com price (including Thai duty/tax)!!! The drives are made in Thailand yet cheaper to buy from the USA. Just nuts. That said, I believe Amazon prices are about to shoot up in a few days with the tariffs kicking in. Perhaps Amazon.ca will be a better deal.
  18. I own MSFS2024. You can not buy it on CD, it is only available via Steam. In fact it is impossible to use MSFS2020 or MSFS2024 without your computer being online because it streams all the imagery and data from Microsoft's servers. There is simply too much data, it can not be all stored on a CD or DVD or even blu-ray. It is quite simple to purchase and install using Steam, but if you have issues with not having a "hard copy" of the game, you're gonna be outta luck, it just doesn't exist. BTW, you will need a fairly beefy computer to run it. I use a Intel 13900k + RTX4090 + VR headset. I don't play it often actually, but perhaps once I learn how to land without crashing I'll play it more often.
  19. In another life I worked in the hotel/gaming industry in Macau. I've seen how it works from the inside. I never once placed even a single pataca on the table. Only fools and criminals gamble. If Thailand goes the same route as Macau, it will ruin countless lives and make the mafia certain billionaires even more powerful.
  20. Look, I know almost nothing about architecture, however I do know that most run of the mill towers these days are built relying on a central core - those thin beams on the edge of the building are not and were never intended to support the entire structure. Also, there is video footage on tiktok showing the building collapse appears to have started at the very top, with the roof collapsing and it dominoes all the way down. Here's an example of a 50 year old tower, still standing, with only a central core:
  21. Fancy a trip to Lubbock, Texas? But not to worry, even if you don't die from measles your immune system is now f'd up for the rest of your miserable life, much of it will be spent in the hospital, and you'll eventually die from a myriad of complications, none of which are very pleasant.
  22. I was just in Pai for the past 3 days. I witnessed foreigners being pulled aside and ticketed for smoking weed. Last night the big district cop did a walkabout surrounded by the media. There are now posters and signs everywhere notifying you to not smoke weed in public. I also saw signs instructing people to cover up and be respectful. Sadly, this all feels like too little too late. I've been visiting Pai for over 20 years, long before they had traffic lights and 7-11s. Just in the past year or so the place has changed entirely (again). It's suddenly now become a place for rowdy pub crawls, and river tubing with multiple stops along the way offering booze and weed with obnoxiously loud music. There are far too many shirtless young men revving their little scooters up and down walking street. The majority of the tourists now (90% maybe) are Israelis, and their vibe clearly indicates that they don't gaf about other people, they want to party loud and hard. Pai in general is now crowded as hell too. The banks of the river are lined with garbage and plastic waste. It's over. Whatever cool vibe Pai used to have is long gone. If you're thinking to visit to see for yourself, prepare to be massively disappointed.
  23. Very cool. I will likely to this too. At least to start with. If things still gets too hot I'll have to install an A/C in there though. The dedicated PCB and thermostat seems overkill, although I'm sure it works great. I will be using Home Assistant, a bluetooth thermometer in the room, plus I'll tap into the Inverter's own thermometers via Solarman, and a wifi smart switch for controlling the fans.
  24. I just took the word of my installer on that topic. I didn't care for being locked into the Xiaomi ecosystem, and it's more expensive than Deye. Initially I was advised to remove certain devices, motors and heaters from the inverter and keep them grid-only, however one of the reasons we went with battery/solar is because in our area the grid goes off frequently (it's off right now in fact) and I've already had to replace countless pump motors destroyed by power cuts. So keeping them on the battery was a necessity. Ultimately I chose to put everything under the Inverter. And at least so far, no issues with phase imbalances. I also use the Solarman Home Assistant integration to alert me of any serious issues with the grid or inverter, just in case.
