How about a solar car port on a budget?
Muhendis replied to Crossy's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Absolutely and totally off topic:- I did some work at Wookey Hole mill for Thorn EMI Datatech (the mill was quite high tech at that time) who made data recorders for satellite receivers. That was about 1985. Myself and a couple of other contractors used to pop up the hill to the Priddy Inn for friday "lunch". First time I ever tried Thatchers Cider and was an instant convert. That recorder contract was later transferred to the main Wookey Hole Road TEMI site and my contract reinstated for skills continuity. -
How about a solar car port on a budget?

In the mid '60's, the older buildings at BAe Filton had signs on the roof to warn people not to walk on the asbestos roof but to use the duck boards instead. Since that was a bit pre-google I guess they had no way of telling if they were using incorrect terminology. One day, in the not too distant future, every time the tide comes in they may earn the name I called them then you will be glad you fitted them and you can laugh at your neighbours who are without. -

Didn't they used to be called "duck boards"? Don't forget to make your connections prior to bolting down the panels unless, that is, you have a team of powerful, big red ants standing by. Also hoe are you fixing your panels to the frome? There doesn't appear to be much hand space between panels and roof. -
Wrong question. You don't want to know where it is now ........... you want to know where it will be tomorrow.

Nationwide Police Raids in Thailand Nab Hundreds, Seize Weapons
Muhendis replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The police seem to have had this well organised. They knew where the criminals were and went in ready for a fire fight. So why didn't they act on individual cases weeks or maybe months ago? There was police activity in a village about three kilometres from my house. A drug dealer was shot and killed in an ensuing gunfight. -

And there you have it. That's another way of saying he took his eye off the ball or, if you want it simplified, he didn't take into account the probable response of his customers. Not a good company CEO. What is "tefft"? -
Thailand Gears Up: Discussions Underway for Formula One Event

You're probably right. I would imagine there would be a lot of work and cost involved getting the road surfaces up to scratch. Pit stop locations. Arranging spectator viewpoints and many other things which would be needed to attract the motor sport followers. -

You're being a bit over the top aren't you. -
Are you by any chance on a temporary supply? If not then I would take those low voltage readings to PEA. When we were on a temporary/construction supply we had similar problems with low voltage. It was even worse if anyone decided to do a bit of welding in the village 1km away where our supply came from. It was this that caused me to go solar. We had to wait a few years until there was sufficient customer demand for a transformer to be installed for supplying five houses.

How about a solar car port on a budget?
Muhendis replied to Crossy's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Yeah Plenty of greenery has a noticeable cooling effect on local air due to shading and giving off water vapour. I will be doing a DIY fridge type cooling enclosure on mine later this year ideally maintaining an ambient of 25º. Mine are supposed to be good up to 30º but I feel like a good project and would be happier with lower than 30º. -

Out of curiosity. What temperatures are your batteries seeing? Mine got up to 30º ambient yesterday. -

Looking good. But those are seriously hot temperatures. Perhaps a sun shade? Looking forward to pictures of the pole moving ceremony. -
I owned the inverter for 3+ years but it may have been slightly older stock. Who knows? As Crossy mentioned at the time. There was a case in the UK where it was demonstrated that a company had installed a software time limit. Moral being. If it can happen. It will. Dongle? My setup is way too simple for one of them new fangled thingys. I have a box which takes in DC from solar/batteries and gives out 220v AC I have solar charge controllers to charge the batteries. I have an ATS for switching over to PEA when if it all falls over. I cannot record anything and I don't really feel any great urge to.

This sad tale of inverter failure reminds me of something similar that happened to me many years ago now. I had an 8kW inverter from a company called Sweetpower (Chinese). The inverter was a simple, low frequency design which could alternate between mains power and solar/battery power. I have separate solar charge controllers for batteries. The mains power input was connected but never used. After three years or so the inverter stopped. No puff of smoke. No interesting smells. It simply, just, stopped. Cause was the logic control board no longer being logical and ceasing to supply required information regarding frequency and voltage to the power drive assembly. It was software controlled. My suspicion is that it hit a time controlled software failure mode. Contacting Sweetpower yielded the following response. " You're inverter is an old model which has been discontinued and we don't carry spares for it". So, no pre-programed replacement board available but "would you be interested in our current inverter model". You are free to imagine my reaction to that. I replaced the power driver with an even simpler (no software) unit obtainable online (China again). It is capable of driving 12kW and has been running faultlessly for over four years now.

A Punjabi friend I knew in the UK once told me that; "The best way to keep your fan running well, is to make sure your punkah wallah is well fed".

Very true. However, as every educated person who did physics at school knows, the weight/quantity of water acting on the tanks outlet pipe is what we are talking about. If we imagine an outlet pipe of (say) 50mm internal diameter in the bottom of the tank, the column of water, also 50mm diameter, directly above that outlet is the only weight/volume of water to consider. This was a given in my "Water pressure is dependant on quantity/weight of water in the tank." comment. Thanks to STWW for pointing this out. By the way, The quality? of water in the tank. I expect STWW intended to write Quantity........🙂

Perhaps he's worried about the police finding out about the prostitution racket he's got going on the 3rd floor............. Water pressure is dependant on quantity/weight of water in the tank. If the tank only gets a few centimetres of water in it every time it tops up there will be low pressure for everyone. The only pressure is whatever's in the pipe.

Sounds like not much water in the storage tank and if that is the case a pump would be of little benefit. What would be of benefit would be to have a forceful word or two with the condo owner and tell him to do his job.
