  1. I agree with that. There is no place where foreign income can be inserted. All I see is income earned from work in Thailand. If anyone knows different please say..... Regarding pre 2024 savings. These are, for me, invested on a platform however, the interest is taxed by the UK government (bless 'em) at 10% which makes it non-assessable
  2. DWP is initials for the UK government Department of Work and Pensions. The certificate is a form sent out to pensioners living outside of the UK, for completion and return to the DWP so that they can be assured that the pensioner is still reasonably alive enough to enjoy such a wealthy gift of pension money from the UK government.
  3. I note the bit where it says "could be moved online". This has been under discussion for years. The UK government really has no idea how to go about it. Perhaps they can take a look at banking security methods and use OTP's etc. I notice they have no problem in communicating with me by email so they really can use computers for communication if they have to. "The DWP said it had no further information at this stage when we asked about the possible timeframe, how a digital process might work for signatures, and whether it might be difficult for some elderly people who lack IT skills." That's a false assumption. Anyone who has made it as far as Thailand is quite likely to have gone on line to make the journey and is quite familiar with using their smartphone for making purchases etc. If the DWP were to adopt security methods similar to financial institutions there would be no need for a verification signature. These people really are dumb.
  4. I sincerely hope the UK DWP can find a way to confirm that I am still alive without sending me a bit of paper once every year. EMS is very hit n'miss here in Buriram. A few years ago my pension was stopped because the life certificate never arrived from DWP. I keep a copy of it in my computer now so I can print it, get it signed and post it off to them every March without any delay. They seem to be quite content with that.
  5. If the collision was "unavoidable" then it is irrelevant to discuss the effect on the brakes of a fully loaded truck.
  6. Welcome to Thailand. https://5.imimg.com/data5/SELLER/Default/2022/2/WM/BH/NQ/43947860/pvc-speed-breaker-1000x1000.jpg
  7. This may be a local initiative in Buriram but, if you are registered in your local government hospital it may be worth enquiring. My local (community?) hospital has a very proactive top doctor whose english is faultless. I suspect he is responsible for this elderly patient monitoring system. I have no idea but it seems to be all the decrepit old souls from the nearby villages (me included). I guess you need to be past retirement age. Pulse, weight and blood oxygen levels must show no significant changes. You must be able to give reasonably coherent answers to questions relating to how you are feeling today and whether or not you have any problems. You may also be in line for anti-cholesterol medication which is frequently an age related problem. That's just about it really. It only takes a few minutes but you may be in a queue for an hour or so. Is it worth the hassle? Yes because problems get spotted before they become ..... well .... problems and besides what else would you be doing for half a morning? There is another plus in that every year my doctor signs my life certificate for me to let the DWP in the UK know i'm still alive. Incidentally. The annual blood/urine test is a fully comprehensive thing which will check if your internals are functioning within acceptable parameters. Altogether there are 56 tests listed.
  8. I had to look up this reverse Polish notation on Google and discovered that it's nothing to do with music notation. Ah. Well. Such is life...........
  9. I have annual blood and urine tests at my local government hospital. Time taken is about ten minutes but need to wait an hour or so for the results. My routine is. No food for twelve hours before test. Give your blood sample at about 08:00. Go home for breakfast. Back to the hospital to discuss results with my doctor (I live five minutes from the hospital). Cost is 1000 baht for the test and 50 baht for consultation. I am, like many others, on the list of elderly patients who get a checkup every three months.
  10. Posters are focussing on the financials of this thread. Part of the headline is about Assets held in foreign countries. How many Thais have houses in places like London and Dubai? These are not so easy to hide or move around as cash.
  11. Not quite sure what is meant by a, b, and c. Clarification below. a. Flagellation = whipping. b. Flatulence = farting. I guess penis size might vary a bit when these things happen.
  12. Yeah. We might well be referring to him as president elect soon.
  13. Public welfare comes off second best again.
  14. When are these measurements done? Before, During or after gratification?
  15. He might be leaving Thailand but I bet we will still have to "enjoy" his postings on AN
  16. Many years ago I used to have to travel to Kap Choeng from Buriram for my extensions. The "under consideration" wait was as short as 10 - 14 days then. One would think that long term marriages would be processed quicker. The home visits for marriage verification stopped after the first two visits for me. I guess this must also be the reason why staff are shuffled around to different offices on a regular basis.
  17. There is indeed lots of useful information in this thread, for what to do in the event of an accident. Getting insured would be a good idea for the under 75's. If you are over 75 then things get a bit tricky. If you want an insurance company, there are plenty to choose from by Googling "personal accident insurance in thailand"
  18. This is scary stuff for governments worldwide because it reduces tax income which is needed to support an increasing aging population. It's rather like an inverted boomer time.
  19. I think it might not. Thaksin is cleared of punishment by his royal pardon. However the same cannot be said about the officials in charge of his "treatment". The problem is getting hold of the related health records which will by under the control of the said officials.
  20. Yeah. Don't fall for a woman who is 23 years older than you but, more importantly, don't pee in the garden.
  21. Mine is more like 3M and 10mm² and I am happy with that. Yours is even better..........🙂 The fly in my particular ointment is the grounding of the solar array. My solar MOV's are inside the combiner box which is on my car port roof. The MOV earth is bonded locally to the stainless frame of the panels which is then bonded to the concrete carport. That should give a reasonable sort of earth connection, but in addition to that I have a 10mm² connection between the solar panel mounting frame and it's own dedicated ground rod length about 7 Metres. I think there must be ways of testing these ground connections but, cheap charles that I am, I don't fee any urge to go out and buy the kit to do it.
  22. As far as I am aware those MOVs actually do protect the neutral also. However the earth and neural are connected together outside the house at regular intervals. Something like every third or fifth pole I believe. However, the EMP is very fast. In vacuum it travels at the speed of light. It's a bit slower in air and a lot slower in electrical conductors. Also the further away you are from it's generation, the less it's effect. It obeys the inverse square law in that respect. But the speed of the rising edge or start of this pulse is, for all intents and purposes, instantaneous. Conductors that carry electricity to your house have this thing called resistance which will attenuate the voltage of the EMP. These conductors also have something else call impedance which will slow down the speed of the rising edge of the EMP but it is still very very fast. So the longer the conductor, the less effective is the speed of the rising pulse. What I am leading up to is the length and thickness of the earth wire from the MOV to the ground rod. this needs to be as short and direct as possible to minimise the EMP voltage drop.
  23. That's cheap. My ampher hospital dentist charges 100 Baht plus whatever the work comes too. I generally use them but sometimes sitting around waiting for a couple of hours is a less attractive option. The private dental clinics are staffed by hospital dentists who can therefore only see private patients evenings and weekends.
