Based on the growing number of noob posts by overstayers, I would hope that Thai Immigration would make a very public overstay amnesty offer in the New Year where they would waive any and all fines regardless of how long the current overstay. That would allow the huge amount of current overstayers a very last chance to get their act together and depart. This would also enable those with obvious reading and/or genuine financial difficulties to 'get out of jail, free'. Give them the whole of January to get 20k baht and get legal or get lost.

Then, after enacting the new 'overstay and get fined, jailed and banned' regulations in March, anyone pleading ignorance, lack of cash, medical difficulties, the dog ate my passport or whatever lame excuse they can pull out of their bums, can learn the real meaning of som nam nah.

If this enforcement will come around in April, don't you think that the people on overstay have enough notice to get their stuff in order?

Why do you want the Thai government to give them more time and give them a out of jail card?

Why don't you play monopoly and enjoy yourself!

Yes, there are ways of dealing with noisy neighbours. I had some irritation the other day. Next door have a squeeking door and will insist on moving large pieces of furniture around making an awful noise on the tiles. I bought and gave them some 3 M felt and some oil, which has stopped the noise. Formyself, I only ever listen on headphones. My JVC infra red 1999 vintage are still going strong.

I think I'm over sensitive, something to do with the noise I guess when teaching in a thai classroom with 40 M2 students ,,,,,

Longest sentence ever served by a foreigner is 17yrs. You read stories of people getting 50, 70 yrs for drugs all the time. Its a head <deleted>. Truth is, most are whisked away in the night after 3-5 years and deported. That part never makes the news.

Why is it that when someone refers to an extension of stay and calls it a Retirement Visa, there are so many posting that it is an Extension of Stay "Not" a Retirement Visa?

Are these people just trying to be difficult or want to show that they are all experts in the visa process. So, someone calls it a Retirement Visa. So What? We all know what they are talking about.

Thai law firms advertise world wide and call it a Retirement Visa. Yes, it is an Extension of Stay based on Retirement. Get over it. I know what they are talking about and so don't you.

I don't think the op did good. He is not responding to this treat anymore, so I think he lost his smartphone gambling.

I know about the crackdowns and I have a visa. But I'm saying, even with a visa, you cannot do back-to-back border runs. It's not a problem for me, because I like traveling and have the money to do it right now, but for others, this will cause problems.

There is a lot of unfair criticism of Thai Immigration, the bulk of which is unjustified

I believe the bulk of that criticism comes from those who should not really be living here, and would in no way be allowed aces to USA, Europe or the UK unless their home country

Generally those who can not meet the required financial criteria should all be sent home, and the criticisms would substantially evaporate

Normally those fortunate enough to be able to comply with the financial requirements seldom have problems

Those who avail themselves of the alternative, system of paying for an agent to negotiate their visas on a different basis also do not complain

Just imagine you were in UK or USA on overstay, you would receive no mercy, try arriving in these countries on visitor visa and converting to long stay a total nightmare and probably impossible

Personally I believe the problem visitors should all be sent home, where they will complain even more, and even here are exploiting their home countries social security benefits

It would be good to see Thai Immigration taking a much stronger stance against those who exploit and do not comply with the requirement in this country

Ive been making monthly payments for the car loan on time. I paid it at the beginning of april and have not received confirmation of payment. They usually put it in the mail within a few weeks.

The wife called them a week ago and they said due to sonkran the mail is delayed. I have still not received it in the mail. We called again and they said they will send it in 2 weeks.

Im reluctant to make another payment until I get receipt the last one. What do you think? This is thailand and I think I should be cautious.

If you pay by bank, you have proof of payment.

OP, why don't you use one bank account for immigration and en a other bank account for your daily cost and building?

I don't think a lot of people will be driving when absolutly not needed the comming days. So you better take the bus.

You have to contact your bank and ask to block your account for now. This laywer has all your information, including your pasport.

Depending on what bank you are using, it will not be that hard to create internet banking access for your account.

Keep in mind that the laywer already tried to get your pin code.
