  1. It wasn't Walen! Whatever we do is most reliable. Not the cheapest though so those who are overly price sensitive go to competitors and often end up with many expensive problems. But hey! saving 2,000 was such a great deal, wasn't it?

What a smug answer which offers no help to the OP. If I was him I certainly wouldn't be beating your door down given your arrogance.

I am accustomed to that, there are people who like Walen School very much and those who do not like us so much, however those you decided to use our service are usually satisfied with our teaching and ED visa assistance. We have branches in many places and all are busy so we must be doing a lot of things right. The question is what are the other choices? There are some but there is just one definitely good choice and that would be Walen.

You are a sponcer of this forem, so I can not say anything.

  2. I see consistent lack of planning for the child's future. I know many farangs married with children here. I see very few farangs sending their children to the better schools, here or abroad. The majority of these children attend Thai public schools. They often do not speak the farang parent's native language; most can barely speak English, no better than other Thai children.

My daughter (15) speaks almost perfect English in less than 3 years with me, comes first in every English exam in her Thai government school. Happily converses in English.

My boy (3) confidently speaks Thai (Lanna and Central mix), Burmese and English, no school at all yet.

    PS

I'm not farang, so my post probably doesn't count.

Your post count mate. There are just to many negitive people on this form.

My son is 6 and speaks Thai, Englsh, Dutch and Lao.

So a question to some form members?

How many languages you can speak?

  3. About 2 months ago there was another story in the newspaper about the government claiming that the tap water is safe to drink.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/751589-tap-water-in-thailand-safe-to-drink-pwa/

If you don't already know, nobody in Thailand drinks the tap water, not even the economically down-trodden. So as a personal test to see if it's safe or not, I started drinking it last month. I planned to make a clever day-to-day posting of my bowels, but I got busy with work… In the end, I just strung the updates together.

Anyway, I've been drinking the water for over a month now, and haven't gotten sick. It's not that I got sick and then I got better, I just never got sick.

I gotta admit, the water tastes a bit like dirt. It doesn't taste that way if it passes through my filter (which I by-passed for this experiment). But I am fine. I eat almost 100% at home, and I never eat street food. I mention this because I want to stress that this isn't a result of me having gotten used to microbes in the water through exposure elsewhere. I don't eat out, and I have only drank filtered water until last month.

I think the water is most likely safe to drink, at least as far as microbes are concerned.

That said, it's important to note that alot can happen on the way from the filtration plant to your tap.

*The pipes that the water travels through might not be in such great shape. They might be fine leading to my apartment, but I can’t speak for elsewhere.

*The water to your building might get stored in a special tank for your building, and that tank might not be in very condition.

*If the system loses pressure (which I am told can often happen in the rainy season), then ground water can leak in, and that can make you sick.

*There may be chemicals in the water (bromate, chlorine, asbestos, barium, fluoride, benzene, lead, mercury, etc.) that don't have any short-term effects, but are dangerous in the long term.

I live in an old, run down building near Victory Monument. My building is 26 years old. Nothing is new, and there definitely isn't an extra filter for my building. There are no fancy high rises on my soi or the surrounding soi that would have put in new pipes. Essentially, I live in a bit of a dump, and if my tap water situation is ok, I would venture to say that other areas in the city are probably fine too.

Of course our bodies are not all the same, some people might be more sensitive to drinking water. I do not have a super gut. If you want to continue drinking bottled water, I'm not trying to stop you. As far as microbes go, though, I think it's probably safe. Over the last month, I've also been drinking the tap water at other places I visit around the city (to the horror and disgust of my friends) but I still haven't gotten sick. I think the popular fear that Thais and non-Thais alike have of the water are probably overblown, at least as far as microbes go.

What about the clip your posted?

Are you sitting on the toilet because the water was so good, or is your playing music so bad?

  4. When did a bad Thai driver not adjusting to roadconditions become news??coffee1.gif

There isn't anything in the report to suggest that the driver was at fault. It seems the weight of the lorry was to blame, so maybe nothing to do with the driver. But people on here love to jump to conclusions that make Thais look bad.

Lorry? You mean SUV with 10 tons of fruit laiden onto the rear shelf. Nothing to do with the driver? Anywhere else and you would be stopped 100m down the road, by active traffic police - that is.
Why don't you stop posting bs. If this looks like a suv to you, than better buy some glasses.

  5. If you don't want to use the main highway and want to take the extra day to enjoy a scenic ride...

Go straight across to Tak, north to Thoen, west to Li and Hot and Mae Sariang then north to MHS.

Duelsportbiker is right, get of the hiway at Thoen, and enjoy a beautifull drive.

From Thoen you drive to Hot, please do this in the daytime and not when it's dark! From Hot to Mae Hong Son is a other 4 to 5 hour drive, a beautifull drive.

Do this also in the daytime and enjoy the scenery. When I do this drive, out of Chaiyaphum, we always stay in a hotel in Hot. Good hotel, clean, not expensive and secure parking.

I forgot the name, but if you turn in to Hot, you have to take a right, coming from Li or Thoen.

This is the main road, after about 250 metrrs you will see on your right hand sight a gas station that looks like nobody is there, about 50 meters down the road you make a U turn.

Enjoy the free coffee in this hotel and get on the road in the morning. When you come in to Mai Sariang, just keep following the main road.

After the road takes a turn to the right, follow it for about 300 meters. On your lright hand you will see some big gas station and 7-11, but on the left is a area of some small Thai restarants. Good food here.

Just before Mae Hong Son, I think about 15 km, there is this look out point, on the right hand side. Make sure you stop there and enjoy the view.

When you make it to Mae Hong Son, have a beer in the Crossroad, a good place and nice people.

Have a good trip en enjoy.

  6. OP,

Man, this is a big problem. How the hell they have the gust to call you Farang. And that was said by a other farang? Shame on him!

Now why don't you be a good boy and forget about this big problem, just go back to your local beer hangout and drink a few more.

Than after a ggod night sleep, maby you can post something that is important.

  7. Must be awful for any parent put in this position.

The father is clearly doing all he can. I don't suppose he'll get much help, from any source, unless he is prepared to pay for it.

Any news on the 2 daughters the English father was searching for, that his ex-wife took away, despite him having full custody?

It's at time like this you find out that no one if officialdom wants to bother.

To what I have read, they are all safe and sound and back in the UK.

Good that you know, now please give the link to this story.

  8. Want, want, want.

You Mr. Costas are the epitome of today's youth, always wanting something but never willing to put back into society.

Just a month ago you were on here spouting about how you wanted the latest version of the automatic TGAU with the fitted GERU.

You make me sick to my fallopian tubes with all your greed for modern goods.

I'm sure Costas is happy that you consider him youth.

  9. Good post Costa, I had a good laugh about some of the comments on this threat. It looks like some people on this form have absolutly no idea of humor.

But just one question to you. You still have this old, ugly moped hooked up with the greek flags?

I will send you a pm, you and your family are always welcome at my place when you in the area.

    Once again Costa, good post.
