Jarampong said car parks should have reinforced fencing so it does not buckle under a car's impact. He added that this should be imposed as a municipality regulation in the future.
OMG... This is not first time it happens a car smash a perimetral wall at a Dept. Store parking and crashing on the ground...
They should have reinforced every Mall containment wall long ago! And they still speak they should do something? When?

Well deserved with the baggage fee attempted shafting of prices and other charges not mentioned until you go to pay, and when you check-in. I checked out with them once and for all.
I find the booking process fair and clear. No hidden costs.
If you don't need insurance, you just unpick it. If you don't need to choose the seat, you just jump the step.
If you need luggage, you have some choices depending on your luggage weight...
Nothing different from any other LC companies.
At opposite some companies like TigerAir used to show the all in price just before the payment step!

They are crazily cheaper if you plan your trip quite in advance and follow their newsletter applying for periodic flash offers.
I bought last month a ticket to Kuala Lumpur and back to Bkk in April for only 2,000thb all in, plus 600 thb for 20kg luggage (enough, as my business trip will last only 5 days).
Service is not much different from other carriers for a short range flight so AA is my first choice when traveling around SE Asia, and pleased to see their business model is working too.

It seems you're going far off topic, starting a crusafe against foreigners negative about Thailand.So you give more credit to media report than to a first hand testimony of someone who knew the poor guy?
And this is a free forum, I guess if someone of RTP wants to tell their side of the story here is welcome, but don't expect that, so don't blame Sheryl for that.
I don't give credit to anything if you read my replies correctly. What I observed is that statements are inconsistent and that the findings of the pathologist are questioned by the mother of the dead person.
What gets me up in arms is the fact that whatever happens in Thailand to foreigners is grasps upon by the people that seem to be very unhappy in my country.
# 8 Lawless that’s what is happening; that’s what you get when you don't punish 'elite" criminals; Murder, rape and extortion...; Welcome to Koh Tao
# 22 Thai police don't cooperate - no compassion, tough luck foreigners. Thais have a bad attitude. Everyone knows that.
# 28 Look , only a few people are left still believing the Thai versions on almost anything these days. Some people refer to them as suckers - fools.
# 31 The RTP covering things up is hardly a far fetched scenario either is it ?
# 35 An appointed Thai one- whose evidence is refuted in more civilised countries
And it goes on and on.
But what would happen if I would say that all expats from the UK are here to assault and abuse Thai children?
Here is an article from the Guardian that shows that the cover up of child abuse is perfected for decades in the UK with the help of D notices that cover aspects of national security. Members of parliament and government figures seem to be involved in abuse and even murder of children it appears.
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/dec/20/newspaper-boss-police-vip-paedophile-coverup-claim
It wouldn’t be fair now to claim all male British people are falling into that same category but for expats to make statements about all Thais comes very easy it seems following most forums here.
Indeed in this forum there are some of them but there are also some depicting Thailand like a perfect paradise... of course truth is in the middle. We should make a equilibrate analysis and not going to get all emotional or upset about some post that's obviously a rant.
Sheryl post seemed to me equilibrated differently from some of the ones you quoted...
I'm overall happy to live in Thailand but I feel if we can all can give a contribution to make it a better and SAFER place that would be just good for your country.

I have not advanced any "theory" as to what happened. I have said, repeatedly, that we do not know and likely never will.
It is quite common for news articles to mix up details e.g. 1 Am, 2AM.
You seem to be under the incorrect impression that the police investigated this and found it to be an accidental death. The whole point is that they did not investigate, at all. For which I do indeed find fault.
I am under no impression as I only have read the news articles. According to that the RTP has send a report to the British police. That they haven't investigated the incident at all is put here first and a RTP officer should have right to reply here. Better would have been to asked the RTP prior before claiming that no investigation has taken place. That certainly would have cleared it up.
You also stated that "theirs are the only statements that there are to go by". Now look at the statement the pathologist made and what the mother implies.
So you give more credit to media report than to a first hand testimony of someone who knew the poor guy?
And this is a free forum, I guess if someone of RTP wants to tell their side of the story here is welcome, but don't expect that, so don't blame Sheryl for that.

Seriously, what's wrong with junta?
It's really unbelievable how they can do more and more bs statements day after day.
I could have said they can't say past their noses, but now can't see even their noses!

From Andy Hall:
Just finished a very intense 4 hours strategy meeting/discussions with Koh Tao case lead lawyer and senior advisor to LCT Koh Tao case legal team Nakhon Chompuchat in Bangkok.
Nakhon is also my lawyer in Natural Fruit cases and my personal hero for his hard work and commitment to human rights issues in Thailand
Nakhon explained to me in detail how Koh Tao case preliminary court hearing brought forward from Feb 25th 2015 to Dec 26th 2014 has the most serious and concerning implications for his preparation of the defense case against the charges laid against the defendants Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo. He explained (see picture one) Samui court now demanded 10 sets of documents/evidence from both defense/prosecution to be submitted at same time by 18th Dec 2014 (in 7 days time), 7 days prior to the hearing on 26th Dec 2014.
These 10 required documents/evidence the defense must urgently assemble are:
(1) List of how many witnesses/evidence will be brought for consideration of court;
(2) Explanation of how each of witnesses/evidence brought for consideration of court relats to particular charge or case issue;
(3) List of witnesses who will be called to give testimony of same issues;
(4) List of witnesses or evidence/information that request other side to accept;
(5) List of forensic science witnesses or evidence such as results of verification or experts that will be brought for consideration of the court and in relation to which specific case issues must be stated clearly;
(6) List of issues that require viewing of the scene or transferring to another court
(7) List of order of bringing to court the witnesses for testimony
(8) List of any child or youth witnesses below the age of 18 or any witnesses requiring translation during testimony
(9) List of witnesses that the court has to issue the summons to appear at the court on date of testimony
(10) Statement of the number of days the two parties to the case need to use for witness/evidence testimony
Nakhon must lead the defense lawyers team now to prepare defense arguments and witnesses without EVER SEEING prosecution witness list/arguments. In essence, the defense team only has the complaint prosecuted at the court, a 6 page bland document stating what Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo are charged of, and the Thai autopsy or victim medical report but nothing else of substance.
Nakhon explained to me how Samui court stated Koh Tao case preliminary hearing brought forward to 26th Dec 2014 (in 15 days time) from 25 Feb 2015 to ensure swift justice/effective case management for all sides. Following court discussions, Nakhon reported that reason for sudden date change in afternoon was concern defendants would otherwise remain jailed for long time without trial so must speed up case hearings.
Nakhon expressed deep concern how Koh Tao prosecutor (Koh Samui prosecutors office) prosecuted the case against Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo on 4th Dec without submitting any witness/evidence lists, even though the prosecutor stated that their preparation was all completed and hence must have all lists complete already. This makes he and his lawyers defense team's preparation very difficult as the defense have no idea what the evidence against the defendants is but have to submit within 7 days a final and complete list of all their evidence/witnesses.
Finally, the prosecution in Koh Tao case frequently reported to media that the reason for prior delay prosecuting the accused was that the victims family had not replied to join the prosecution. However, now the judge/court ordered yesterday (picture two) the prosecution to continue without the victims families response. The court heard the David Miller's family is expected to respond relating to the opportunity to join the prosecution and claim damages by Fri 12th Dec but there has been no response from the family of Hannah Witheridge.
Shameful.
This kind of court procedure is shocking!
If something like that would happen in any developed country it would be a major scandal.

Curious that NNT is the only news agency to report this... must be true!

Ban them.
Totally agree... They will continue with their criminal practices until they will be hit in the pocket.

Nobody here seems to even consider a possibility that these two may actually be guilty....
I don't know if they are guilty or not. I only know that RTP did show the total and utter incompetence, bullying behavior, and resort to shady moves they are capable of along the whole investigation.
That deserves coverage, and deserves people and media to speak about it.
I hope that 2B will be convict if they are guilty and if there will be a fair trial, but the premises are everything but encouraging.

To know the opinion of the public will they order a Dusit poll? Or a NIDA poll?

I accept that the 2 Burmese men accused of being the killers have recanted the confessions. I also accept that they confessed more than one time and once was to an HRC commissioner.
That leaves the merits of the confessions in the judges' hands
@JD....
A couple of quick details..... you base your confidence that the cops have their men largely on their confessions. You are entitled to that opinion.
I'll have to paraphrase a bit because I don't have time to dig up all the exact articles and reports.
They confessed to being on the beach and quite drunk. They saw the 2 kids being intimate and wanted a bit so they beat David to death with a hoe and raped the girl and then also killed her. (my apologies for not quoting word for word.... )
Your confidence that these are the guilty perps based on the confessions is concerning because there is no evidence that David and Hannah were 'involved romantically' at any time during their stay on the island.
Worryingy, no DNA of David was found anywhere on Hannah's body. The police stated this early on and to my my knowledge have never changed that report. Even a kiss and a cuddle would have left DNA on her to be found. Yet none was.
The boys stated they beat David with the hoe and yet to my knowledge, no DNA of David was found on the hoe. The police also stated this and again, to my knowlegde never changed that report.
(If I'm incorrect and you know of any updated reports on the hoe and David's DNA on Hannah, please share the links.)
To me this makes their confessions hard to believe. They confessed to a crime that was most unlilely to have been committed as told.
Are you comfortable with their confessions if the above is accurate? (please correct me if any of my points above are not correct)
This is a very interesting post, which questions probably will never have an answer...
You put on the spot some of the too many flaws of this investigation.
Faulty investigation that will lead only to 2 possibilities:
Sure now that case will go to court, we will finally see which cards RTP and prosecutor have in hand. Though the deck maybe rigged, because face and connections are at a stake. And we all know how face and connections are so important in Thailand.

Yesterday: Latin America. Today: Canada. Tomorrow: ........................................ fill the space with a random country at your ease.
The truth is so far from the hopes being spread daily to paint a heavenly image of Thai economy.

Have these guys even had a bail hearing/arraignment? Have they been "officially" charged with any crime aside from maybe illegal immigrant status?
I'm from the USA, yeah it's different in Thailand I know, but... Either charge the guys with a crime or put them under house arrest until the RTP & prosecutor get their "acts & stories" together.
Being charged with murder = no bail. Being detained & investigated for months on end makes no sense at all.
After all, it's a "Perfect Case" & the RTP can do nothing more with it, according to a statement by the police.
If they are guilty then drag them to the nearest tree & string them up. If not, they deserve a chance to defend themselves sooner rather than later.
Being charged with murder = no bail. Being detained & investigated for months on end makes no sense at all.The funny thing is a prominent Thai citizen have been convicted to death penalty for murder not more than 2 weeks ago and is out on bail for 1,000,000 THB.
Convicted of murder AND out on bail...
Talk about double standards...
Talking about double

It seems more and more true that tourist spots are getting more and more dangerous...
Authorities telling Thailand is safe won't improve the situation. Prevention must be put in action, and fast.

But you are comparing a developed/advanced economy (US) to a developing one (TL). Apples to oranges. Better to compare TL's police force with, say, India's.
Well, if I am allowed... you dragged NYC in the thread
Speaking of NYC: http://online.wsj.com/articles/new-york-city-police-officer-shoots-kills-unarmed-man-nypd-says-1416581975
The article is pay-per-view... and by the way you're quite OT. The topic is not about New York life mate.
-
If he did what the article claims: some time in a nice Thai jail wouldn't be a bad lesson...
But... why they did not press charges? Against an assault and an attempted rape? Something just doesn't add up.

random violence happens everywhere. just a few days ago, an elderly asian-american man (who was with his wife) in nyc, was pushed onto the path of an oncoming subway for no apparent reason.This is very upsetting...particularly to my wife and I. We spent many mornings in that park...just before sunrise. In the 3 years that we lived there, we went every day, and saw nothing like this. There was a gruesome murder of a bar owner by his own staff, at his house...but not random violence at the park.
Police and military are helpless against this kind of violence.
I know it sounds bad....because it is.

"Yes" but presumably NYC does have a functioning, competent police force, unlike here in Thailand.

There was an interesting interview of one of the student arrested yesterday on Prachathai, for who still speak about PTP and Red Shirts, about the motive of the protests...
I guess the link is not permitted so I won't write it here, but djjamie and the other hardcore extremist anti red should read it to understand better the threats they faced and again the motive of the students protest.

The unrest in the south is due to religion not politics. It has risen in violence due to the global unrest of other similar religious wars. Radical Islam has nothing to do with the recent coup. Political unrest and their support groups causing chaos all over Thailand is.
If you concede me, radical Islam has nothing to do with the unrest in South...
