You'll need a thai bank account which isn't easy to get on a tourist visa. Truemoneywallet is also an option, i only use that in 7 Eleven and Otteri but perhaps it's ok for general use, I've not tried -

The thing is unless you are one of those Americans who bang on about money and brags about how much they spend then others can be just normal people who were leading a normal modest life in the west, so coming to Thailand for another good value modest life makes sense. Not everyone wants to travel, may have travelled loads before
