  1. I've been watching Killing Season, a documentary about a TV crew searching for the Long Island Serial Killer (LISK).

"The Killing Season" from Executive Producer Alex Gibney follows documentarians, Joshua Zeman (Cropsey) and Rachel Mills as they investigate one of the most bizarre unsolved serial killer cases of our time -- ten dead sex workers discovered on Gilgo Beach, Long Island. Authorities believe these killings are the work of the Long Island Serial Killer, who after five years remains at large. Forging relationships with cyber-sleuths, journalists and victim's families, Zeman and Mills uncover connections that suggest Long Island is just the beginning.

  2. Statement from Trump on the event, and I feel I have to agree with him.

Scary words coming from somebody who's about to become the most powerful person on the planet.

It's almost a war cry, essentially giving ISIS exactly what they want as they know it will cause more moderate Muslims to join in.

I have no idea what the answer is, but I don't believe that it's an all out war between Muslims & everybody else (again, which is exactly what ISIS want & are fighting for).

  3. Try rebooting your machine into safe mode with cod prompt then rename mDNSResponder.exe

Might be some cleaning up afterwards but it should cure your problem.

Bonjour is a pucker service (albeit it acts like a virus) so nothing to worry about (though I do remember forcibly removing it from my Win7 machine as it kept popping up with messages)

  4.
I had a car most of my life, and so glad to live in a country where I don't need one, and can hire someone else to drive on those occasions where public-transport is not convenient.  Another great benefit of Thailand, and why it is an economical place to live - which is a key reason why it is a popular destination.

A nice condo (sea-view) + utilities + food + transportation is 500K Baht / year or less.   There are hundreds of people who spend less living here on retirement visas now, yet all they spend contributes to the Thai economy.   None get any "services" for free - so they do no harm.

Those being benefited are the Thais whom they pay that entire sum to, every year - and all of it is taxed.  For every high-roller, there are hundreds or thousands of people who spend non-elite sums, so yes, we benefit Thailand more than the few high-rollers in Sales Tax, Thai businesses, etc.

Not quite, as you're driving up the rental & service prices for Thais with a similar purchasing parity to you which drives up the prices all the way down the chain.

Basic rule of supply & demand, if the "medium" Long term stay "Tourists" weren't there, demand would fall & prices stop rising (nb how I didn't say they'd fall, TiT after all).

  5. This makes sense.  A tourist arrives from his home country, tours the destination and goes home.  Excursions to neighbouring countries are just that and the METV allows for a nice holiday.  For someone who wants to stay long-term, they need to consider the myriad of other options.  Work, Marriage, Investment, Elite, Retirement, 5/10 year retirement, etc, etc.   Can anyone justify a stay in Thailand that is not covered by one of these options?

It only makes sense if they use length of time spent in Thailand rather than number of visits.

E.g this year has been a busy year at work so I've had fewer trips than normal:
    - 4 days over the New Year
    - 8 days for my birthday in Feb
    - 3 day wknd in August
    - 7 days for my mates birthday in September
    - 6 days planned over Xmas

5 visits in a year makes me look like an "Out/In" Visa Runner but I've spent less time in Thailand than you get on 1 Visa Exempt stamp.

But as has been said, I can't see them applying this to people who fly in, especially not from Singapore as the planes are always full of people going over to shop/eat.

  6.

Could it be that jet-setters are not really the kind of people who like to be crammed inside an overloaded mini-van to do a border run every 30 days?

Maybe, just maybe they have visas, flights etc all sorted before they go anywhere on holiday.

Anyway the main point of this new rule/law just means that Thailand is only getting itself onto a par, visa wise, with many other countries. IMHO.

SWMBO and self do a fair bit of travelling and it really is not that difficult to sort out visas etc before each holiday.

So if you & SWMBO we're going on a 3-day weekend trip you'd be happy to spend a day at the Embassy sorting a visa out?

Maybe if like Vietnam (& Australia) where you can do it all online or Cambodia (used to be the same in Indonesia) where you can do it on arrival but no way would I do it if I had to attend an Embassy in person.

  7.
you can extend 30 days then 7 days so it averages out to 2 months for everyone.

Slight correction... you can extend once for 30 days & apply for another extension which will be rejected and you'll be given 7 days to leave the country.

(In my book) not the same as extending for 30 days then extending for another 7 days but practically amounts to the same

  8.

I have only ever been in a couple of hard rocks, totally not my musical tastes and always seemed geared for the visitor / tourist market (the pool in the Bali ones hotel bit  pretty nice though) and every time they seemed much more expensive than local options. Almost seems part of the brand.

Have visited dozens of Hard Rocks (long story short, used to be forever working so whenever I got any time off I'd go away somewhere & it became a standing joke with the ex-Mrs to randomly pick a HRC to visit, me for a beer, her for the T-Shirt & Teddy) but I do like the pool at the one in Bali, nothing better than hiring a cabana for the day & as the mood takes you swimming across to the pool bar for a cold Bintang.

BTW, somebody mentioned KL, HRC there is full of freelancers, never knowingly seen them in any other one.

  9. I'm still not sure.

So I don't need work permit to be a director of Thai company, correct?

I'm guessing you're a Director (in name only) of a nominee company used (as a loophole) to buy land, if so then the less you say about that probably the better (if not then I apologise).

No problem getting a retirement visa as long as you meet the criteria (over 50, 800k in a bank or 65k income or combination).

No need for a work permit (you won't get one anyway without a Non B Visa & employing the required number of Thais)

  10. Im confused...

She said tourists were among the biggest shoppers for gifts during the holiday season, so the tax incentive, effective from today through December, should give a powerful boost to both tourism and retail spending in this period.

Great so as a Tourist I can claim tax back...

For those living in Thailand, each person is entitled to get a tax refund on shopping expenses of up to Bt15,000 depending on his or her income-tax rate.

.... as long as I live in Thailand & pay income tax.

    You couldn't make it up
