  1. It's important in the context of this thread to correct your post. You absolutely did NOT get an O-A visa in Thailand. Nobody has done that EVER. O-A visas, also known as Long Stay visas are only available from a limited number of home countries.

O-A visa applications do always require a medical form and a police record form.
Again, these are ONLY done in a limited number of home nations. Never Thailand.

What you did indeed do was a CHANGE OF STATUS from your tourist visa to a 90 day O visa in Thailand as the first step, and the annual retirement extension (of that O visa) as the second step.

The reason it's so important to be precise on this thread is that this proposed new 5/10 year visa may possibly (nobody here really knows FOR SURE either way yet, and don't let them say they do) REPLACE the current O-A visas, also known as Long Stay visas. I'm not saying it will or that it's even at all likely that it will, but there is no definitive authority yet confirming it won't.

What's interesting is there are comments about being able to switch over to this in-country which I'm guessing would be a Conversion from an existing Visa, just wondering if it will include the ability to convert from your existing Non O / O-A (Retirement) even if this expired some years ago (I.e. Really you'd be converting from your Extension of Stay).

Guess we'll find out in another 6 months like with the METV.
  2. Have flown U.K. to Singapore in Business Class with loads of different airlines & have to say Emirates is probably all around the best but their service does seemed to have gone down since they started code sharing with Quantas.

As people have said, a large part of it is the plane their using so I would decide what kind of plane I wanted to fly on (in non-cattle it would be the 380 for me though I'm yet to try Business class on the 350)

Www.seatguru.com is a great site for checking out planes, seating arrangements & reviews.

Oh & having a shower at 35,000 feet before retiring to your 1st Class suite (Emirates 380) is an experience in itself (& only a 25,000 mile upgrade when I did it on the Man - Dxb leg but I think it's more like 43,000 nowadays)

Edit: Some very valid points about transfers, CDG can be a nightmare, I didn't enjoy changing in Frankfurt with Lufthansa (or was it Munich, I get mixed up wi SIA which airline uses which), also didn't enjoy the lounge in Helsinki but I was going on to Lithuania so might have been a different one).

  3. You asked in which movies he played a decent role, I listed 5 and Will27 named 2 more, how many do you want? Some people sing the praises of Humphrey Bogart as an actor, I think he's a huge ham and wouldn't get a job acting in a commercial today. So there you go.

    Show me diversity...

I just wish I could be paid as much for simply playing me...

Rock up, spit out a few lines, million bucks thank you very kindly ma'am

Sh1t & people take the p1ss out of Keanu Reeves, Ben Affleck for not being able to act, at least they manage to not be themselves every now & again

Edit: by the way, that's my definition of an Actor... your mileage may vary

  4. Fracture, Meet Joe Black, The World's Fastest Indian, The Remains of the Day, The Edge etc, etc. He's one of the best IMO.

Exactly, now name one where he's worthy of his accolade

He's a bit like Patrick Stewart & the guy from Lord of the Rings (Ian somebody turned up in Coronation Street)... absolutely fabulous at playing themselves in any role...

Ben Kingsley... Now there's an actor [emoji1303]

  5.
The newsletter said “we have been instructed by Immigration Bureau”, so it does not sound like TE themselves have a problem with this.

If there was a problem with crowding, they could limit it to one person, and even one person who is a Thai national, which I assume would make most members happy.

I think it should be Member + Thai Partner [You wouldn't buy a TE for your Thai partner but could do for a non-Thai partner]

Nb... Doesn't help at all as my partner is a Filipina but I always have the option of buying her a TE membership if it came to it.

  6. Just watched first episode shut eye ,big thumbs up, incorporated looking good as well, thanks for the heads up

20 minutes in, like the lead actor in Burn Notice but really struggling not to switch it off (there's far too many series / episodes lined up).

Yep, that last scene "Interfering piece of shit, why did you tell Amanda I was as cheating on her" has consigned it to the (much) "Later" pile...

I am really enjoying catching up on Oak Island though, like the guys on the show I remember reading (albeit 10 years after them) about it when I was 10 or 11 years old (Treasure Island, Long John Silver anyone) so it's fascinating to watch these guys digging into it.

  7.

Is it really that serious?  That kind of negates the benefit, doesn't it?  How much longer does it take to process an extra person or even 3 people?  Is the express line service that busy?

So then when you arrive to the airport, the terminal shuttle can still take everyone to immigration, but only TE members can use express line and the others must use the regular line?   I'm just trying to get a clearer picture of how this plays out.

I think it negates the benefit if other people are getting it without paying.

I can understand the odd guy or 2 going through with his wife but how p1ssed off would you be if you were stood behind 6 guys, only 1 of which has a TE card & all travel to Thailand on a pretty regular basis so take a bit longer for the IO to process.

One of my mates pays for the Premium Airport Service https://www.bangkokflightservices.com/home/bfs-services/premium-airport-services/ but I don't expect to go through the fast track queue with him...

  8. It's axiomatic, cloud storage needs no govt regs. It is the next adjustment hardware makes.

Depends on the "Cloud" & Data in question as a lot of countries (Egypt, Indonesia, China, Korea spring to mind) require personal customer Data to be hosted in-country so "Cloud Storage" it may be, but the Cloud in question is in-country.

UK/EU also has restrictions around DPA so whilst you can (with restrictions http://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2015/10/06/a-message-to-our-customers-about-eu-us-safe-harbor/#sm.0000lugpb4ofhfgyusp1dbbhngz0p) use US "Safe Harbor" to leverage Cloud storage that includes hosting the US, you cannot have the data on infrastructure hosted in India (as an example).

  9. As a British citizen I was allowed to have my Thai partner with me and go through a EU border gate rather than the non-EU ones, much to both our relieves! He's a chap by the way and now my legal husband as we were recently married in our embassy in Hanoi, since our UK trip.

Thanks for that, I had visions of me sitting for hours in that little room they have at the side for non EU citizens (or worse still, her sitting for hours there whilst I'm on the other side) so knowing I can just queue up with her in the UK/EU lane is a massive relief.

Thanks again & congratulations on your marriage [emoji4]

  10. Thank you so much for the detailed reply, I'm guessing it's going to end up as a UK visit as she has her heart set on it but maybe Europe next time [emoji1303]

I know exactly what you mean about the benefits of being stood 1 meter behind her in the Immigration queue, she had a really tough time in Hong Kong until I stepped forward & gave the Immigration officer what they needed... But they're just doing their job so I always remain very polite, answer whatever questions they ask of us & keep smiling [emoji1303]

  11. Ok, so firstly my partner is Filipina (so obviously not Thai) but I figured that it would be the same in either case so seeing as this forum has a lot more experienced members I thought I'd ask here.

    2 Questions:-

    1) My Partner wants to visit London, but having spent 5 years working there (3 years living at the Tower Thistle hotel next to Tower bridge which is her #1 reason for wanting to visit... though like a lot of people she calls it London Bridge), I'd rather go to Paris, Madrid, Rome etc... question is, is it any easier/harder for me (UK born & Bred) to get her a Schengen visa over one for the UK?

    2) (Am sure it seems petty, but I promise it's a big deal to her), if I take her to the UK am I ok to go through Immigration with her or do I need to go through a separate channel?

Before anybody wades in & makes fun of the 2nd question, I promise you it really is a big deal for her & suggest you try leaving the Philippines with a Filipina to understand how much hassle they get (We're talking about a 33 year old who's travelled to many countries, with me, not some young girl at danger of being trafficked).
