Try and find another way for Thailand to earn/get money and stop relying on frigging Tourism that is destroying the country. Amsterdam have now banned any more new hotels for this reason.

Amsterdam put a hold on the construction of new hotels primarily because of the disruption caused to the lives of Amsterdammers who live in the centrum, specifically de Wallen, the Red Light District.

The problem is primarily caused by UK tourists who can cheaply and easily pop over for the weekend  (because weed isn't legal in the UK) and get commode-hanging drunk, too high on weed, mushrooms, X or whatever else they were able to find and walk around the RLD yelling and shouting and singing and throwing things in the canals, <deleted>ting and pissing outside, photographing and harassing  the sex workers in the windows.

I used to live on O.Z. Voorburgwal twenty years ago, right in the middle of the RLD. On the weekends it was busier but in the past decade the streets have become jam packed with drunken sex and drug tourists who either don't know or don't care that they're standing right in front of people's homes, who are trying to sleep at 2 am.
I don't know if they think it's Disneyland or Carnavaal but it's inconsiderate drunks that are causing the problem, not too many tourists.

Utter rubbish! Never happened to me on the many trips I have driven into Vientienne from Udon, and never heard of it happening to others?  Where did you come by this little gem?

Not in my experience. Out of the last ten trips to Lao I’d had the cops try to shake me down for money many times.

1-Driving with my headlights on at 5 pm.
2- My tire touching the line before the crosswalk although three other Lao vehicles were all over the line.
3-Not turning right at a stop light

4-Illegal parking, where there were Lao cars behind and in front of me in the same zone.
5- Speeding while driving the same speed as Lao cars that weren’t stopped.

If you’re a farang in Lao with Thai plates, just ask “how much?” when you’re stopped.

  3. Hi, with a one year non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai spouse, how does the timing work ?
I realize you can stay in the country a maximum of 90 days, but say you exit and reenter Thailand every month or every two months. That resets the clock, right? So you never have to worry about traveling on a certain date for the 90 day requirement, right?

You can leave and enter at any border, right? You don’t need to go back to the Savannaket consulate, is that correct?

Evidently the new 90 reporting system isn’t connected to immigration. Ten weeks ago I did 90 day reporting online. Exited and reentered Thailand two weeks ago but recently received a notification to do the 90 day reporting before the 90 days, starting ten weeks ago, again. I can ignore that reminder, right?

I normally don’t bother to report my address again when I reenter Thailand TM30, since I figure since I went through immigration and they know I’m here and I’ve never had a problem.

Perhaps because lovely ganja cures everything.

In every country, state or province that has re-legalized cannabis, the use of opiate-based analgesics, and alcohol has dropped significantly. Not enough to close pharmacies though.

  5. I’m finally going to start  receiving Dutch AOW pension but I noticed they are withholding 11% income tax. My earnings are below the limit of tax liability in the Netherlands, I have a BSN but I’m not a Dutch citizen or resident and I see Thailand has a tax treaty with the Dutch government.
Is it possible to  file a Dutch tax return to reclaim the withholding ?

Fake ads and scams ? Yeah right .

Yeah, right. Facebook accepts and continues to run ads offering thousands of dollars of products (Amazon returns of iPhones, iPads, PS5’s AirPods, laptops, tools for $49.95, including free worldwide shipping.

You can’t ship a pallet across the street for fifty bucks. It’s an obvious scam but FB allows it and doesn’t care as long as the seller pays for his sponsored ads.

I don’t expect they’ll shut down FB but it’s a wake-up call that FB can’t support annd promote  obvious and blatant scams.  Facebook was successfully sued in the EU for similar dirty dealings.
