  1. What do we know about the OP and the girl? Nothing except what he has posted here and its pretty obvious from the evidence what kind of lass this is.

if the girl was a real gold digger she'd have gotten the motorcycle FIRST then bailed

Come on JD, don't be so dumb. She was trying to call his bluff and get a better deal which has worked because hes needed to post here about it.

  2. BTW, a lot of bile here is misplaced. It has nothing to do with Beer Chang whatsoever. They are merely sponsors of the event.

Your bile should be directed towards those who deem it a great idea to replay the celebrations over and over again across all 5 channels.

This has nothing to do with either Dhospak or Chang. I feel its a little more sinister than this.

Thing about a square headed bloke who was taking people's coats at HM the King's celebrations, and you're getting warmer.

  3. IS it legal to have SS3 piped into my place by my local cable company?

To be honest I don't give a monkeys. I do know that the providers have to pay 2000B a month to receive it so I assume that that goes to SS3 in SA.

Most of the local cable providers in Thailand can access this station according to the manager of my local firm. If you have a local cable service I'd try getting on to them and seeing what happens.

Again I had a housefull last night and they reckon its the government and even the millitary trying to have a dart at Dhospak because they were unhappy at the monopoly of the broadcasts.

Be warned, this could go on some time. I'm sure I saw a caption yesterday after the coverage of the days events ended saying there was something on at 20.00 hours tonight.

  4. Thankfully I have Supersport 3 piped into my place by the local cable company who foresaw such a problem both with language, poor presentation, and the fact that the government had decreed that until all celebrations were over for the day blanket coverage of celebrations would continue. Thank God the boss of the cable company is a true football fan, albeit an Aston Villa fan, who lived in Brum for 8 years so really understands the football thing.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would say that it was Thaksin having another indirect pop at Westerners. They could have at least cut away one of the channels for the football.

There was absolutely no need for showing people getting in cars and driving off, on all channels whatsoever, no matter what the occasion, but what TV channel boss is going to risk his job and possibly worse, for the sake of 30-45 minutes of football?

On a more serious note, I wonder how many Poms, Dutch, Japs, Aussies, Germans and other people from footballing nations will stick around or plan holidays in Thailand for the next WC? I foresee that during South Africa 2010 Thailand is going to be something of a tourism graveyard.

The fact that I had 13 people (all Thai - they started knocking 5 minutes into the game and kept arriving throughout the first half) in my place last night shows that even the Thais were non too impressed and just how far out of touch people who make these decisions truly are.

  5. Do you guys really rate The Godfather or are you just jumping on the 'I have no idea about Film so I'll say The Godfather is best because everyone in FHM says so' bandwagon?

The Godfather is a truly ordinary film but Lads Mags like it so everyone else does.....

    Now, Goodfellas....that IS a film!!!!

  6. The Exorcist - possibly the best film ever made. Far better than all of this over rated Godfather nonsense.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original (although the remake isn't too bad) Classic former 'pirate' movie. Shot on a low budget but still stunningly grotesque.

Poltergiest - Spielberg's only venture into the Horror genre which is a shame as he did a bloody good job with this film.

The Killing Fields - The best account of the Pol Pot regime on film. A brilliant film.

  7. I agree that if it is leads off topic then it is out of order but one liners seldom lead to a post deviating from its original theme.

Sure, they can annoy, rather like a pub drunk who keeps butting in every other sentence when you are trying to have an intelligent conversation but with time you learn to blank them out. If there are repeat offenders who persistently get your goat then you can use your 'ignore' feature.

I do agree that there could well be room for a serious forum - a smiley free zone if you will. However, I would rather discuss even the most serious matters with a degree of levity as real life is heavy enough going at times.

  8. Most people on this forum post both serious topics as well as shoot the sh*t! Its the very nature of the beast I'm afraid.

My advice is lighten up. As an open forum aijed at the expat community you have the full range of people here from the dossers like myself right through to the highly intellectual like Totster and Daleyboy.

Thats one reason I like it so much. You can learn from one post and then chuckle at another.

If you find a post inane or beneath you then just scroll past to the next 'sensible' post.

  9. You obviously have the passion and if you have the finances I would say give serious consideration to taking a BA in Thai first.

Starting over again as it were.

Only then would you have the foundation of knowledge needed to build up to an MA.

I seriously think that without that foundation of knowledge concerning Thailand or SEAsia you would struggle at MA level.

Again, no offence meant. An MA with no prior experience in ANY topic would be a big enough task let alone one in Thai Studies.
