  1. The Pound will of course dip on any sense of political uncertainty. In the longer term, I think it will be better for the UK to leave and I think it will be better for the Pound as well.

Too true, but most younger Brits these days are to scared of their own shadows, they have been brought up in the EU, and they just don't realise that we could be a powerful nation again, if given the chance. We are now too multi-cultural to have that bull-dog spirit what made us great in the first place....its all been watered down to the extent of subservience to europe....its a shame really.

  2. how can I vote? I am a UK citizen. But more proud of being a member of the EU.

Then you should definitely vote to stay in.

I would like to see us out personally, but if the majority say IN, then i will go along with that. It's just the way its being handled is what gets me.

The out brigade are not getting a fair crack at it, and dear dodgy Dave has only got the fear factor to use for staying in.

Whichever side wins, good luck to them, but i just hope if we stay in, the EU will give us the 'slack' that Cameron fought for, but i have a feeling its not gonna end up in our favour.

  3. I would like to see the U.K. stay in the E.U. I am a U.K. citizen and on a purely personal view there are many reports that the British pound would tank by approx. 20% which would be extremely detrimental to my financies .

Who is reporting this? Cameron, Osborne? They are using every scare tactic possible. Nobody knows what will happen, but in the long term, it could (no one knows) get much better. The exchange rate isn't exactly soaring away for us Brits IN the EU....is it?

Don't you want to see a Britain being British again? the EU was a good thing when we joined, but have you even noticed that we have absolutely no say in anything, but Merkel can do and say what she likes. Merkel and Junker talk like they decide what we should get, or not get. But do you EVER see Cameron stand up to Merkel? We are just a Province of Germany now, not equal to them.

  4. I don't blame anyone for trying to avoid paying heavy taxes on their riches. Its not illegal, i would want to do the same if i was wealthy. Who, in their right mind would give away a bigger chunk of their wealth if they could get away with it?

I would use every loop-hole avaliable to keep MY money from the clutches of the tax man, and all you would too if the chance arose.

    Look after number 1 first....

George Osbourne is sat at the table in the picture, his family is loaded, he is an expert on these matters, so is he stupid if he avoids tax, or a genius??

Of course you are correct in what you wrote, but the people who benefit from these arcane loopholes are the very people who either put them in place initially, or are empowered to regulate them. That the vast majority of people are only becoming aware of them now shows just how obscure they were - unatainable for the ordinary person, and designed to benefit only those in their very exclusive club. At the same time, as our government is trying to protect and enlarge the wealth of its members and their school chums, it is continuing to punish the poor for the past excesses of the rich.

Oh come on, think about it, if you were wealthy, would you or would you not do exactly the same thing to protect your own wealth? I think you would, i would definitely.

As for punishing the poor, they have to ask themselves "why are we so poor". My phylosophy is to either make something of your life, or stay poor. I was poor once, I had nothing, been given nothing, and just worked my ass off for what i have, now i can afford to live a comfortable-ish life, not rich, not poor. When you have worked hard, and saved a little, you should be able to keep most of it. Then let the 'poor' earn their own money....that's just my view, thats how i have lived my life, not just waiting for hand-outs.

Most of these 'poor' people could do something to change to a better life, but they are just too damn lazy.

  6. Brewster, Surely you have a few business ideas to throw her way? She seems ripe for the pickng....don't let everyone else bleed her dry...

She should buy a couple of dozen cheap condos at about 750K each and rent them out to students and have a good monthly income with her money invested in a property portfolio that is only going up and up.

So did Tulips and then South Sea Company shares. More recently US property after 2008 demonstrates the risk in believing this. Ask anyone who has bought a condo in Phuket in the last 10 years whether they could sell it for a profit, 50% capital loss is more realistic.

The next global recession will most likely occur within the next two years and no amount of funny money (QE) or negative interest rates is going to stop a collapse in bubble activities, property included.

You are talking about areas that got caught up in property bubbles.... I can assure you now that Korat is far from in a property bubble.... Rises here have been slow but steady, and not crazy like Phuket and BKK. Those are the places that went insane and those are the places that will suffer.

These are not holiday homes or permanent residencies I am talking about, the universities will always be here and the students will always need somewhere cheap to live.

This is a smart investment that is future economy proof. Korat is emerging fast, but luckily the land and property prices have remained in stability.

Also, these are long term investments with a passive income, and we all know the economy is alweays up and down.... Everything recovers, so as long as you don't need to sell anytime soon (and why would you) then you are in no danger. Property fluxuation only affects those who must sell or can not rent out.... In the areas mentioned above, there has been much over-development over the years and that makes things hard to shift both as sales or rentals, and in a supply and demand economy...........

I can pretty much vouch for that, I live in Korat city, so i can see what you mean. Phuket, Pattaya, Bkk property is well overpriced for what you get, but the price of property in Korat moves along at a nice slow steady pace. Korat isn't a tourist city, but its definitely on the way up, big things are happening here slowly.
  7. It seems like its only us farangs that are worrying about it, thais cannot see farther than tomorrow. I suppose they are used to living without it, more than us. In our area, i really don't know where all the water came from for songkran? We have a dribble coming into our tanks, but they are on the streets with hoses chucking out shedloads of it. Where do they get it from? from a stinky klong behind, i suppose.

"It seems like its only us farangs that are worrying about it, thais cannot see farther than tomorrow."

"Us farangs" blah, blah, blah. "Thais cannot" blah, blah, blah.

The only time some farangs "see" something is if it may be an imminent inconvenience for them. And then of course T.I.T. is to blame. And this clarity of vision only works in Thailand. Apparently in farangland every leak is repaired within minutes, give or take a few decades.

Every day more than 3.3 billion litres of treated water 20 per cent of the nation's supply and 234 million litres a day more than a decade ago are lost through leaking pipes in England and Wales. The water lost would meet the daily needs of 21.5 million people.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/water-torture-3300000000-litres-are-lost-every-single-day-through-leakage-2034999.html

Imagine Manhattan under almost 300 feet of water. Not water from a hurricane or a tsunami, but purified drinking water 2.1 trillion gallons of it.

That's the amount of water that researchers estimate is lost each year in this country [the US] because of aging and leaky pipes, broken water mains and faulty meters.

    http://www.npr.org/2014/10/29/359875321/as-infrastructure-crumbles-trillions-of-gallons-of-water-lost
So you think an 'imminent inconveniance' (as you put it), of having NO WATER, is ok? It certainly will be inconvenient to NOT have any water, but it isn't 'us farangs' that is throwing it all down the streets, is it?

I really don't see why you had to go off on one about me saying 'us farangs', i am not a Thai, i am a foreigner here, so that makes me a farang....its easy....so please go pick on someone else, this farang doesn't give a sh/t what you think...khao jai?

  8. Indeed it won't. I know sarcasm intended but get this...

    ..you..won't..make..any..difference..

But you x 100, 1k, 10k, 100k will make a huge difference. By being concerned you can make that difference.

It seems like its only us farangs that are worrying about it, thais cannot see farther than tomorrow. I suppose they are used to living without it, more than us. 9. When a tanker was delivering water to a friend's house, a thai girl literally begged the lorry driver to sell her some water (10 days waiting for a delivery is the norm here), so he filled her tank up, soon as he was gone, she was out watering the garden with it....leaving the hose running, while she chatted with her neighbour!! grr, grr, and thrice grrr.

  10. I'll have some...its so bad here, they are selling it from tanker lorries. Some haven't had water in their taps for 10 days. But the Thais can still chuck it around like water!! ....like water, get it? Ok, i'll get my coat.

  11. I had a really bad back, so bought a new mattress, very expensive one...it wasn't the pain, it was like little spasms going down my legs...so i had a few courses of acupuncture with electric pulses, and also those glass suction things they stick to you, (don't know what they call them), anyway, after that, i have slept like a baby....also i was given these chinese herbal pills that taste horrible, but apparently they are good for your kidneys.

So the moral of the story is, i don't really know how i sleep, because i am now dead to the world.....555

  12. Hmmmmm, fink some then should forget wearing fip-flops with a Nike logo...........whistling.gif

    Disagree Trans.

Nobody is going to rob your flip flops.

Take copy watches, people wear them to tell the time, in their opinion, they look impressive, and if they lose it, or break it, they don't care, it cost them peanuts.

People wear thick gold chains as a show of wealth. If they think it is smart to flaunt it in areas where crime is rife, I say, more fool them.

Somebody DID steal my flip-flops....see post above.(#98)
  13. Hmmmmm, fink some then should forget wearing fip-flops with a Nike logo...........whistling.gif

You dunno how close to the truth that is Trans...I went to a swimmimg pool complex, and as everyone does kicked off my Scholle flip flops with about 30 other pairs already there, we were only in there 4/5 minutes, came out and they were gone....thieving bastardos!!

  14. Didn't take long for the ignorant comments from the ill informed to arrive!

This absurd financial requirement applies to everyone applying to enter or remain in the UK via the family settlement rules; regardless of their nationality, race, religion or fashion sense.

Maybe she should come back through the Calais refugee route. She will get given enough benefits to cover the 18,600 easily.....sorted.

Yet another ignorant comment from the ill informed!

You are quite welcome to inform me as i am so ill informed ....do you honestly think i was serious?

please help me improve my nolij (knowledge)...555

  16. That piece of land belongs to the most expensive in the country.

So sell out and move to the better reachable outskirts of bkk sounds like a brilliant idea. Especially since the UK struggles to take good and decent care of its older citizens.

"Especially since the UK struggles to take good and decent care of its older citizens."

Are you talking about expats ? If so what more "good and decent care" should be offered by the UK to those who have chosen to spend their later years in Thailand ?

What is the Embassy there for then? If you say its not for its own citizens, they might as well close it down then. What do they do there? Sit with their feet up on the desk all day? Remember those card players in Pattaya, what did they do to help them? They weren't drug smuggling, or any other serious offence, but they did nothing...

  17. It has cetainly opened the eyes of the undecided. I hope he is forced out, and takes Osbourne with him, because Osbourne is a bigger crook than him. Jeremy Hunt should be checked out as well. I love it watching them try to worm their way out of trouble, how they have the front to tell blatant lies to the cameras expecting everyone to believe it....tell us some more 'porkies' David, we love a good squirm....

I guess you have got a hot line to the undecided who now agree with you. No, wait! Latest odds 4/9 stay, 2/1 leave. Well fancy that!

It does bother me, but doesn't affect me, because i will never live in the UK ever again. You are obviously voting in, but that doesn't bother me, because we will just cancel each other out.

How do you think the country will cope with the immigration crisis? are you ok with the Turkey situation? are you also ok with Madame Merkel ruling Britain? She has more power than Ca-Moron in his own country....

  19. They could just have a little kiosk on the pavement, with the Ambassador sitting on a plastic chair under a brolly....then the soi dogs can do us a favour, and piss on them as they go by....i think most of us would like to see the place gone. They do nothing to serve us anyway!

What "service" did you want, expect or believed you were "entitled" to?

I don't think i have to answer you about services.

But i would say an experience i had there was not a good one.
