Meter going in reverse only applies to the older "spinning disc" meters, sadly the electronic ones do not go backwards ????
Hi Crossy, Do you know if the new electronic meters "clock up" units if i am exporting to the grid or just not "clocking down"
We got changed to new meter and so i have unplugged one GTI so as not to produce more than our normal daytime consumption in case they do indeed charge for exporting

I found one offers 8% rental guarantee for 5 years. After 5 years, you can sell the unit back to the project at price 100% of the buying price
If true then you will probably be buying it at least over 40% market value

A word of caution regarding the so called 'smart meter'. It has been reported (although I can't personally verify this) that the 'smart meters' can detect if your system is feeding back into the grid and the MEA/PEA apparently can charge you for the pleasure of providing them with free power.
Thats a bit of a worry
Has anyone else have any experience of the smart meters?

What is the reason that you have to shut down your Solar, DIY?
On 5/31/2023 at 3:35 AM, MJCM said:Ooh chips! How did they found out? They saw the meter spinning backwards?
We are away for a extended period and our system is turned off for that same reason (don’t want them to see the meter spinning backwards).
Sorry for late replies, away at work,
Yes, pretty sure they saw meter going backwards, they came a day early on the reading before last so it would have been going backwards.
So, two days ago they came and changed us to a smart meter, wife had to sign, and the man said we good to plug back in now haha.
Obviously it will delay ROI but will get there eventually.
The man also said they were changing a lot of people with solar to smart meters so sounds like they are actively looking so beware

So, only approx BHT2500 short of break even on my DIY car port solar, i have received the dreaded letter from MEA to shut down my 'installation' with threat of meter change (not a problem) or be cut off....yikes

When you apply for the one-year extension of the permission to stay from your most recent entry, this is taken "under consideration" with a report back date typically about 30 days later.
Ok , Thanks
Is it possible to convert a Non O marriage visa to Non O retirement or is it only possible to convert an extension
TIA

This is where it is very important to be accurate in the terminology used. When you have entered Thailand using a visa, this entitles you to a 60-day extension. It does not matter if you previously had entered using the same (multiple entry) visa and received a 60-day extension then. However, if your permission to stay from the entry with a visa is extended, and you leave and return with a re-entry permit, this does not entitle you to an extra 60-day extension. You only get one 60-day extension per entry into Thailand with a brand new permission to stay.
So i am ten months into my ME NO marriage from savannakhet, is it possible to get one year extension from CW without having to get a 60 day extension first?
I travel in/out LOS every three weeks so 60 day complicates things
If not and i have to go savannakhet again, do i need to wait until current visa expires?
TIA

Not close. Taxes for dividends are 15% lower in my home country, than in Thailand, but no broker in my home country accepts the SET and the 1100 stocks on it. ????
You can buy an ETF such as THD for exposure to the SET

Reversing your meter thus producing a credit balance upon your electricity account is their nightmare. The solution would be that all excess juice produced by your panels gets fed into the National Grid and you, quite rightly, receive Feed In Tariff for it.
To be fair, i totally understood the risk before installing my panels and will reach a ROI this year so not the end of the world for me. PEA/MEA do need to make money, but yes, for a greener future, they need to look at their policies WRT home solar instalations

Hoping we have not been caught out, meter has Always been read on the 5th of the month, so usually ensure we using more than producing but this week i found the bill in the postbox on late afternoon on the 4th !!!

Our meter reading is always the 5th of the month, in the morning. The only exception was when i was caught out when he arrived a day early, mid afternoon when we max producing. The 5th was a holiday, cant remember what for but luckily he didn't notice/didn't report the backwards spinning meter

I'm glad we're spared a Croatia Vs Netherland match. How dull would that have been to watch. Both teams without shots on target until they HAD to score to stay in

Odd how so many posters apparently time their Wise transfers to the exact second and keep such precise records of the time taken!
This post took me 29 seconds to type, the previous one....ah, 'uck it
Do you even use Wise?
If you did, you would know it tells you exactly how long the transfer took..in seconds

Is this just in Thai banking business hours / before a certain time - or is this anytime?
Cannot say for certain, i usually transfer every couple of months when home in Thailand and during daytime. Not sure if same speed outside of banking hours.

flying with Thai every three weeks direct to Europe. The price is the cheapest option and no stopover in the ME. Service is good, main meal better than other airlines, breakfast same as others.... dog s***
The worst thing is, unlike six months ago, the plane is 100% full every time now, i was getting quite accustomed to having a row to myself haha.

I'm trying to imagine how he could flip a truck of that size in a smallish soi unless he was going flat chat or the truck's centre of gravity shifted.
Right at the start of the that soi it is a sharper then 90' bend followed by some "S" bends. It may look small but soi 70 is the main thoroughfare between Suksawat and PrachaUthit roads and so unfortunately frequented by HGVs

As above. Within a couple of months, our usage from grid was down 60%, no concerns ever raised.
When home, i always ensure we are using more then producing on meter reading day, when i'm away, i am fairly confident the wife is not so "methodical"
Our bill is also creeping up as the wife is a lot more carefree with usage "as its free" haha

New tax era in Thailand begins as Revenue now shares data with 138 countries within the OECD

I think that if you can prove you already had that $100k in your account, before the start of this year, then you can subsequently bring in up to that $100k tax free. After that amount it will be assessable for tax.
