Has Lao visa entry price changed ? It use to be 32usd (paid in USD) for me being an Aussie.

Not sure, if price changed, it was my first time there. I opted to pay in Thai baht as that was what i had. There is an option to get the visa online prior to arrival someone mentioned earlier in this thread.

Does the consolate still do visa processing only a few days a week and pickup the next day ? Monday, Wednesday, Thursday pickup was the days in-between.

Again, sorry not sure. I went on a Thursday morning and picked up on Friday afternoon but looking at the website, you can go any day Monday to Friday

Don't take the bus, but take a tuk tuk leaving 15 minutes before the bus. When you arrive at Thai immigration there will be no people. Buy your bus ticket at the office next to immigration. When the bus arrives you will be first on first off.

That would work a treat, excellent suggestion.

Replace preferred with only? No one with the funds to do an annual extension for 1,900thb is going to choose the ME option nowadays.

This will be my option. Have plenty of funds thank you.

Due to working offshore, never spend more then 3 weeks at a time in LOS, therefore its this option or Thai Elite..... think i prefer this one thanks

  4. Agree with others. Much prefer flying direct with Thai to the ME carriers, and at the moment Thai are cheaper.

Food is better on main meal, breakfast though ,  is seriously lacking in taste/quality but same can be said with all the others.

    Plus 3-3-3 seating.

flew from CPH a couple weeks ago, masks required to be worn on flight but noticed many didnt

You would be <deleted> most likely, if considering inflation over time (10-20 years from now). Try and divide your 100K by 2 again and then also consider both have to do their own renting, cooking, transport and more. Looks entirely different.

Yes, but i have factored that into my equation, im still 10ish years from retirement so still got time to add and  hopefully the state pension and small company pension will also have increased,

The people at Thai are too dumb to lower fares to meet the competition, they never did it before and they certainly won't now.

Flying every three weeks between EU and BKK, I think it polite to tell you, Thai Airways have been my cheapest option on all but two occasions

"I'm not young enough to know everything"-----Oscar Wilde

As a student of history, I might add Dickens to Wilde and say "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times"

The poster I quote, who seems to base his view on what his dad remembers (Nostalgia ain't what it used to be---Yogi Berra), might not be a student of history. Another poster noted getting drafted for Vietnam, in order to 'go fight for our freedom', which was not only a silly lie, but gave the draftee an opportunity to either die horribly or watch others die horribly. That seems a tad worse than the dilemma young people face today, which is failing to get enough "LIKES" on their TikTok vid. Youth today also beef about the difficulty of making money, all while boasting of how much they made trading crypto. They moan about climate change all while accumulating the most energy wasteful new invention since the 60' Cigarette speedboat or the Hummer. Five percent mortgage rates leave them sleepless, but if I take a look at the historical Yield Curve and interest rates, I see that around 1980-81 mortgage rates were 15%. (Asset prices eventually adjust to ability for the marginal buyer to service debt).

I'm not in my 20s, though I'd like to be so long as I could keep both the modicum of wisdom I might have gained along with the not-so-miniscule wealth. What would turn me away from being 20s again is that their lives are so banal and pedestrian. All the heavy lifting has been done by those who came before, back when people in their 20s produced everything from calculus to Relativity Theory to the PC. Today's young, collectively, have done absolutely nothing but beef about the world "OK, Boomer" left them. Silly. Blind. Willfully ignorant.

There are folks here who have grandparents or maybe even parents who went through, inter alia, WWI, the Spanish Flu, The Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, Polio and iron lungs, lack of antibiotics, the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, Stagflation, etc. EVERYBODY who ever lived was born into a challenge not of their own making. That is life. Some first complain, then 'lift themselves up by their bootstraps' and go about trying to make things better. Today is worse than those eras?  Hardly.

Millennials, gawd bless'em, somehow are of the belief that they DESERVE to have been born in a perfect world, where they can wallow away existence making TikTok vids and then sitting back waiting for LIKES. Their goal (some Polls put the figure as high as 60%) is to be an "Influencer", whatever the heck that really is. Millennials are entitled and demanding, yet have next to no skills to go along with their lack of desire to learn. Apprentice in something? Please, "we already know more than you", which is, of course, a childish fantasy of a pampered and weak mind.

At every time in human history there have been obstacles to success and challenges to overcome. At the same time, there are also opportunities if one takes an objective, non-woe-is-me look at the world. Relatively speaking, today is probably easier to make a go of life than most times since we stormed out of Oldavai Gorge or ate the apple. The difference is that---from my observation---each generation is becoming weaker and more snowflake-ish, unable to even find their bootstraps. Life has become too easy, and in one sense that is a shame, because the real joy in life---in my opinion---comes from steeling one's self up, taking on challenges, and seeing if one has what it takes to succeed. Perfection is likely wildly overrated. Putting one's self to the test in whatever circumstances exist when one comes of age is what will give a life meaning.

Perhaps we're in the midst of a long cycle, kind of like the period after the fall of Rome, where much knowledge was forgotten and those made weak by the successes that came before them couldn't continue to move the species forward. History once gave that period a name: The Dark Ages. Maybe we've reached that point of weakness again, albeit falling from a much higher level than the Romans. Maybe we're headed into, or have already entered, Dark Ages 2.0.

    OK, Millennials?

For those using the alcohol argument ie which is the more dangerous, is irrelevant.

There will be even more deaths on Thailand's roads.

Stay safe people - dope heads in control.

What has the link got to do with deaths on Thailands roads?

Did you read the link you posted? He crashed while showing of trying to impress the girl.

Why do you think this one accident will lead to more deaths on Thailands roads?

Why is the driver tested 'being over the legal limit for driving'  despite been in what was found to be an unroadworthy car and having witness testimony that he was showing off, your take out from the article?

I don't understand why you are only staying for 18 days and wanting to apply for non immigrant visa that allows a 90 days stay. After getting the visa you would need a re-entry permit to keep the remainder of the 90 days when your enter again.

I don't think you would have time to do the application when only entering for 18 days. Sometimes it takes more than 15 days to have the visa issued.

i work offshore, working 21days on/off but after travelling this equates to 18 full days in LOS. I have a Thai wife and children and have been living in Thailand for 14 years. I had Non O, first on marriage then on retirement but it expired whilst i was out of country, unable to return during covid. Since return allowed, i have been coming in using visa exempt. I would prefer to do the right thing and have my permission to stay

You are confusing non-o visa applications with extensions of stay.

All non immigrant visa application have have to be approved at the district level of immigration and that is why the minimum of 15 days remaining on your stay.

So i will be entering on visa exempt for only 18 days, so in reality, i will need to apply in the first day or two to enable to get approval in time.  Is it allowed to do this?

You can apply for a non-o visa for retirement that will allows a 90 day stay with a visa exempt entry or tourist visa that is the first step

    Requirements are here: https://www.immigration.go.th/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/9.FOR-RETIREMENT-PURPOSES-50-YEARS-OLD-NON-O.pdf

The during the last 30 days of the 90 days you can apply for a one year extension of stay. You will need 800k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months on the day you apply.

Is it possible to to get multi entry/reentry permit on the 90 day extension? I am looking to get non O retirement on this method but with work committments i need to leave frequently TIA

  12. No Panic here. When C19 devastated the markets i was roughly showing 35-40% down. Just kept on with my monthly additions. 12-18 months later I was already back to showing around 5% green in international portfolio and 10% green on SET.  With this latest bear, Im showing 10% red on international and level on SET. No Panic, i will just keep on adding, the markets will be back to a Bull way before my retirement

I have read reports of oil gas guys being advised to obtain visa rather than visa exempt ongoing.

Yes, i had been using visa exempt for 9+ years before i was pulled and "advised" by an IO to get a visa.

Thanks for your insight, For some reason i was thinking i had to wait until near the end of the 30 days before applying for an extension, the way you describe , if doable, will be a much preferred option, thanks

Where are you currently and what type of visa are you after.

    Only some countries provide eVisa.

Im UK citizen currently in Thailand,(leaving tonight) working in the North sea on 3on 3 off rotation.

I previously had Non O based on retirement, and before that on marriage,  but this elapsed last year when unable to travel back to Thailand.

I have been travelling back on my time off using visa exempt but obviously the stamps are starting to build up and  having to leave Thailand after 3weeks, to return to work,  before any extension on visa exempt can be made .

I still have the 800k in Thai bank but always thought a Non O was only available inside Thailand
