  1. Lighten up Sparky....as someone who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I find every "bang in the night" , somewhat terrifying. Yes you may make light comedy about this, but unfortunately until you have suffered this disorder you could never understand. A simple knock at the door is enough to lose sleep over. All I'm saying is...don't judge, assume or joke about someone as u do not know the path they gave walked. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

If you do indeed suffer ptsd, what in the world are you doing in Thailand at this moment in history? Seems totally som-nam-na. Talk about bringing grief upon oneself!

Maybe that is part of the disorder, rash seemingly incoherent decisions that bring the stress upon yourself as well as what one might feel (real or imagined) from outside.

Came to Thailand during a revolution with ptsd, what possibly could go wrong?

    Seriously, ridiculous.

  2. It is best to take a free lesson at several schools that offer and ED visa. Thai language schools in Bangkok have different teaching methods and it is best to investigate each method to determine which one is best for you. There are many good schools to choose from and they vary in cost greatly. Google "WomenlearnThai" for some good suggestions.

This website covers many schools by an infamous past poster here. The reviews are very non committal. None state - go here. I think the best I found was, you could do worse. Too bad because TD is perhaps the only person in bkk who has been to the bulk of these schools.

  3. Did you check out the school? Do they have a website? I also live near by.

I've never read a glowing review of W on this or any other site. Seems to me to stress the ability to deliver a visa more than you language skills, it's even in the gif adverts.

Teaching Thai script from the start. OK, that is one way. Perhaps simply getting people to speak Thai promotes confidence? Many including myself understand script would help with speech, but I personally do not want to wadte my life struggling with a language 75m speak and that will only give me an annual assurance of remaining in the country. Nor would I want to pay for that.

Your statement makes no sense as my thai wife and her friends where the ones helping to hand out free food at this locations, so how comes they and all the people they talked to where not made the same offer

Are you just trying to play with this posting

    easy answer

Please send you skype address if you have a web cam or phone number to my private IP

My wife wants to speak to your wife Thai to Thai

Seriously? I would imagine the posters wife has plenty of Thai friends/colleagues she can talk to Thai to Thai.

    You are missing the obvious

She has and not one is being paid

so if some one says that his wife was, let her talk to another Thai lady

when you live in Thailand long enough you will know,it is okay under their culture for a Thai to lie to a Farlang

But a Thai lady can not lie to another Thai lady

you have much to learn about Thai culture

Quote--"a Thai lady cannot lie to another Thai lady" WHAT ??? Well I have been in Issan for a long time and this remark takes the biscuit.

I think he means her b.s.will be seen as such. Not that untruth cannot be spoken.

  5. My wife knows nothing about p4p mob attendance. I know a few of her friends down there (anti Taksin, not pro Suthep) and they are not getting paid. One friend might be doing the paying her family is so wealthy.

But this is Thailand and anyone that knows anything about politics and demos is that you need to offset peoples costs to get them out. Fact of life. Stop whinging on about it, does not mean they are bought <deleted>.

  6. The pathetic current government aside as well as the even more ridiculous Suthep star chamber "solution",

IMO the crowds at the demo areas will fade, these are middle class people not p4p red shirts with a lifetime of disenfranchaisement in their bellies.

This will put Suthep in a precarious position.

In fact, the govt from a plotical tactic should be trying to get these demo areas shut down thru appeal to common good of the nation (for tourism, for loss of intl.face, whatever).

I simply do not understand what Thailands wants out of all this. Perhaps better stated, I do not understsnd how Thailand will achieve it aims and goals with the current political strategies and players at hand.

This could be quite protracted with demands elections to be shunted off months. Would imagine if Yellows do not see a victory, it will be months more or cries for the military.

Yingluck needs to get the protesters to go home, that is a game changer and it should not be that difficult.

★Huge paralells in last decade between Thailand and US

  7. It's actually a good lesson for you to learn.

    Rule 1

Never allow a Thai to do anything on their own, especially when it affects you.

    Rule 2

Never let your Thai woman buy (or arrange a purchase) anything on your behalf.

I learnt that my first week here.

Gee, let me guess. You are not married. Perhaps you were but you nagged and nitpicked your wife and she left you.

My wife is pretty good about handling money and situations. She took.care of our last two trips (in Thailand), one was a breeze, the other quite complicated. I can trust her judgement for most things. Wish she didn't trust her friend on the Olympus camera tip though.

Sorry cynics. She sounds like a keeper. Just trying to do the right thing.Perhaps she is a bit new to responsibility and handling money. Also sounds like she wanted to please. She also trusted someone who is to be your landlord. All my landlords have been decent folk, can't see any not giving back the month, even keeping the 3k.

Either that or she doesn't care where she sleeps, it's only until the divorce and payout.

I moved in to a tiny flat with my then gf now wife. Clean little place but it was hot and was also on 5th floor. I knew it wasn't going to be forever. We would make it or I would move on.

But yeah, Thailand and the 90% law.

Tell the guy you are moving in, get the keys - then say yeah...for a month. Maybe he will wise up, when nothing to gain and a flat to re-clean (and few lost days rent). Have a go at the flat, leave the windows open all month. Make sure they have to clean it again

  8. My hunch is that you don't like good food. There is a boatload of great food in Thailand that is not spicy. You seem to be very picky and I'm guessing have a poor diet in general. When you come to Thailand and all you have found to eat are sticks of bbq, you have a problem.

Moved to Asia, doesn't like rice. What possibly could go wrong?

At least you are honest, my guess is this is 70% of the TV brigade.

  9. Marriage visa requires only tying up 400000 baht to a bank account, instead of 800000, but if you only stay a 2-4 months, double entry tourist visa could be the best. 60 days initially and 30 days extension for 1900 from local immigration. That is a single entry. After 90 days you have to go outside of Thailand and use the second entry. Another 60 + 30 days but you have come in for the 2nd time before the "before" date in the

I'd just get the 30 at the airport, extend 60, leave the country (shopping and duty free) and come back for another 30. You could, if the new old rules are in fact in force, do a border hop to Myanmar from Hua Hin.

Visas and extensions are hassles these days. The expensive envelopes, the questions, the paperwork (tickets, bank account paperwork).

You have an easy path imo. Enjoy.

A possible problem with the 30 days on arrival at BKK initially, however, is that you could be denied boarding at LHR (or wherever) if you had no return ticket or one booked for after the 30 days. A double-entry tourist visa should prevent such a problem arising.

Just book the ticket out for 30 days and change it of course. Most likey would not know the day you want to fly out anyway.

  10. LOL you should see what the US does to Thais just for a tourist visa. Our son's grandmother was *denied outright* permission to come to our home to be present for his birth.

The Consul was here from Los Angeles last week and we took the opportunity of initiating the process of citizenship application. We don't anticipate a problem, but will post if anything comes up.

I understand that the volume of applications for Hong Kong citizenship by Americans has skyrocketed in the last few years. They also require the renunciation of one's US citizenship. Anyone have any insight into the reasons for that phenomenon?

My wife had zero problems obtaining a ten year visa. At the time, we were not even married.

My hunch is MiL overstay the visa, why wouldn't they? It is not as though they are going to apply ever again. They go to states and function as nannies for a few years. When the kid can be put in daycare, they come home. But that is four years, not four months.

US citizens are renouncing in record numbers over what they perceive as higher taxes. Loopholes are closing as are methods to hide and manipulate large amounts of money.

  11. Link, is that the massive bldg that sits right on Suk? Yuk.

Diamond Rachada, my guess is fairly empty. They have lowered price to about 3m. I would offer much less. We looked inside when they finished. No love, meh. There are units aside in Cool House. This condo appears to be same developer. From outside, very unimpressive. Dowdy already after two years. A block going up right now behind that, same developer. Think its a second phase, because the first isnt poky enough.

Not impressed with build quality if same as DR.

Was good location, but now Rachada Mall closed, bit of walk to Esplande or BigC.

By my count there are 20k condos in various states of construction along Chada corridor. No rush.

  12. I cannot understand Southern Thai where despite me living in bkk, Iam most likely to have a conversation.

Wife speaks English very well now, if I were not stuck in bkk, my Thai would be better. Actually much worse since I met her.

Her learning English meant trips abroad. Thai fluency means almost nothing as I can get anything I need with the ability I have.

In all candor, I will go to school for few months and study a bit more this year to avoid embarrassing moments out with the wife when my Thai should be better. A lot on my plate until June.

Don't expect to be discussing Schopenhauer with the next Thai I bump into. That's the thing, sooooo much effort just to cover the basics. Latin language it aint!

I'm starting to think the ability to NOT talk to my inlaws as decent a people as they are, might be a good thing.

And then you decide to leave the country for some years or for good and it's all been a waste of time.

Friend just left China after 12 years, fluent reading and writing. Every minute of study and practice in the bin. He's now chatting up Filipina floozies in some bars in Cebu last I heard. Oh, and learning Tagalog (if that is not an evrn bigger waste of ones life).

  13. I'd always read only one name goes on the chanote?

Not to hijack, but what if you are married to a Thai, is this crazy process the same (buying the property from the estate, then buying it from the estate)?

Well, that certainly goes to the bottom line of everyone discussing how much money they are banking from their condo purchases.

OP - sell it to the heir while healthy and relax.

    Wow!

Great insight algbough I won't need it. Thanks, a new one ☺

  14. I'm confused by your terminology. Could you please spell this out in steps? If they don't have a duty free, don't bother but thanks.

You mentioned a visa. Do I need a visa for a border hop or will us10 do it.

You mention going into the interior 6km, is it now possible for onward travel??! Yiu have gone 150km inland, can you yravel the country thru this option??

  15. The pool is a stretch, surely will be much older building. Try off Pacharatbampen soi 7, Racahapisek Huay Kwang. Building is ok, run down a bit. About 6k, not to my liking personally. I've seen a few farangs in and out of the place. You an ask at the desk and also go to each building which have a notice board.

Be certain about pool access. Ask.

SaranNuch appears a 5k room, additional 6k for amens = 11, no bargain esp for OnNut. You could get a health club membership for less than 6, but the place looks nice. On Nut is a bit out of cbd though. Do not see claning svcs listed.

Edit: oh, serviced. No. Ha, good luck for 10k. Dreamer. Wifi is always extra as well. U Delight appears as "concept" on site. No way they will be 5k, may not even be let directly.

5k, maid service, pool, gym, near mass transit. I can tell you from experience that you are totally dreaming. Use DD property app and call sellers and ask for a lease. We have a rockin' little flat by my critical standards. Of those desires, we only have: close mass transit, decent location in general, good floor, nice building (a bit old but quite ok), Internet. No maids, gym or pool (yeah right). We are in a flat.

You will need to lease a condo to get a pool and imo you wont get maid service unless you are paying big money in a condo situation or in a serviced apartment. In the latter case, I think you are looking at a minimum of 13k.
