  1. I think judging by the press release, it is fairly safe to say to teach legally in Thailand you will need a degree.

    The only questions are:

Will the TCT exam and TCC remain as paths for non Ed degree holders

Or those without 24units (eight courses) of Education classes

Or those with an MA / will the PG diploma be accepted?

Or those allowed to continue being enrolled in some form of above

Or those allowed to continue as they are persuing lic via TCT exam

There is no debate in that to teach legally in 85% of the cases, as a teacher and not with some other label - you need a degree. If a school loves you so much that they got you a wp and you have no diploma, well great for you and good luck.

Your whining on TV will not change the TCT requirement.

But these folk will always exist outside the loop and on the fringes and are the last remnants. The vast majority upountry and for that, good on you. But, you will never meet scrutiny of the TCT, even if you pass all the exams for which you are not even trying.

  2. So, back on track.

    What does tbis announcement mean?

Will TCT and TCC go forward?

Those with exam sections passed will they be given a lic. - doubt

Will exam for Thai's be abandoned?

Will they introduce a course that in addition to a BA will qualify for Thai and/or foreigners?

Will they continue to plod along witbout change? Two waivers, third if same school. Everyone else is finished.

What of new teachers with degrees and TEFL or CELTA, will they have the 2-4 years and will they need to work on improving profesionally, esp when few if any real courses exit and esp when even fewer are convenient to ft employment.

Will this just open the door and they will start recruiting from Philippines? Thailand must know how weak many of these teachers education degrees are.

Has Thailand crossed the Rubicon, can it possible square the circle? How can it possibly recruit credentialed teachers from abroad for 30k? Once here, how can they posdibly retain them? My suspicion is that cannot pull working teachers from jobs but get newly certified teachers unable to find a job (trouble: they have a mountain of debt). Next would be the burned out teachers, make of that what you will.

Seems to me everyone in Thailand should understand that first requirement is desire to be here. Time in country should be a big asset. Time teaching should be a huge asset. Both are seemingly now ignored.

So what is the future for the liberal arts BA holder with TEFL, 50+? The standard bog teacher.

  3. I would not discount the online stuff (DD) but I would put foot to ground. Decide where you want to live and go look. Picking a nice place only to find out it's in a sketchy area or whatever is a waste. Of course, if it's a house in a gated community that is different.

I can see whete both condo and house are suited for the op but he will also need a maid and transport if he goes for the house. A 45k condo should not be noisy!

I would die in the burbs. The beach or the farm or in the CBD.

  4. Easy.

You do know that Adang is an NP and that outside of renting a tent, there is lityle accomadation correct?

Assuming you have a ticket to Malaysia, simply get a longtail back over to Ao Pattaya, check out with Immigration and then find wherever Tigerline or whatever company is doing that run is located. Ask when you buy the ticket where to go. Most likely leaves from Ao Pattaya.

Not 100% never seen it done as I have only stayed on Lipe 1x. I only stay in National Parks (Adang, Rawi, Tarutao).

Your biggest issue is buying advance ticket because you only have two days. When you arrive on speedbiat you can go direct to Adsng which is best. But if you have to buy a ticket, this is a problem. Maybe you can buy it in Pak Bara but shop around.Chk Intetnet for prices now.

Longtails always show up around 8am on Adang. It's always a worry, but I have never missed a boat. Besides that trip to Langkawi might leave later. Just check.

No one is going to know about timing to airport bro, especially these old farts on this forum.

Adang HQ is ten minute longtail ride to Ao Pattaya. No need to stay on Lipe. You are though arriving late in season and may not be able to stake a tent at the front of the treeline on the water. If this is a problem, walk down the beach in the direction of the new toilets and find some shade. You may be required to return the tent, that will cost you time in the morning.

Best food in the National Park system!

  5. Best in Bangkok is upnthe street from that clinic, Dental Clinic. I think though it is now owned by BKK Smile.

Used by diplomats, Arkady and Sheryl. I stopped using them when cleanings went to 1700b. Im sure the other services were up. Its quality but at a price.

They started pushing bullshi* on me. Not just flouride, but all sorts of Rube Goldbeg crap. Done. 12 years!

Beast of time finding another. Made appt Rachada Dental, could not even find the clinic. Done. Forget.

For whitening you need to have trays made and use gel. UV is just bs.

  6. I agree with above post. There are no problems here, especially related to bts/mrt. You might have problem on Suk corridor in taxi from Natl.Stadium or Ploen Chit to Asoke and you'd want to stay on bts.

Travel down from DM in taxi, np. You can return via airport link at Makkassan station (Phetchabri mrt).

Why dont you look.for something by Chula/MBK, Sathorn or Thong Lor

I'm sure your princesses would love the old wing of the Grace B-)

Seriously, if bargains are to be had with the shutdown, have a look online. Some upmarket hotels offer deep discounts to Thai's booking so get the wife online checking the big hotels. Maybe even riverfront.

  7. As I live in Bangkok I usually get my visa for Laos exactly as described by the OP. If you take the International Bus to Vientiene from Udon Thani you have to have a Laos visa in advance.

But your bus still stops and waits for everyone else on the bus to get their visa-on-arrival. I don't see what the savings is in time or money.

The "international" bus from Udon doesn't. It's clearly stipulated that a Laos visa must be held prior to boarding the bus in Udon.

Is that new because I went to LP with my wife a year ago, first time I have ever gone via air (but hey, b300 ow). No one hassled me or her. Got my visa at the border same as the other seven times for usd35.

    *Airport minivan

Just go up on the train <deleted>. Could not be easier, you csn even walk to the border from the station.

    But good write up bro!.

  8. Now, we will find out if the Army is on the side of rule of law or lawlessness. Protecting the people from bloodshed or continue to see bloodshed. On the side of the people or politics. Respecting or disrespecting the Royal Decree.

Bloodshed. More hyperbole. Largely peaceful protests marred by a few small explosions from which we still do not know the responsible party. So it might be "your" side that did the bomb throwing.

If it feels to uncomforatble for you here (and any other old people), feel free to leave.

    Board

    Aircraft

    Now

  9. Good timing. Suthep has run out of moves.

The goverment has handled these "protesters" (terrorists would be a more accurate description) extremely well so far.

You are an a**. You have labeled a huge swath of Bangkok's middle class including my wife and a dozen of her friends terrorists. Including one of our friends from a very wealthy family (and her son) and another from a very well to do family. Let me guess, you are American? Only Americans and the odd Brit throws that word about so freely.

My wife as most Thai's protesting are not very politically astute and forgive the Thai's for not being very forward thinking.

Yingluck is a failure, they want her out

Appears her criminal brother is greatly involved in her govt

Rice pledging long a bane of the middle class grows as problem

    General horrible mismanagement of govt

They have been thru two dozen constitutions and a dozen snd a hslf PMs. There is no rule of law - so please excuse them if they are just happy to tidy up a bit.

She does not understand or seem to care that what Suthep is demanding is undemocratic, even though it might be good for Thailand, who knows.

You and everyone that liked your assine comment knows nothing about Thailand, even less about terrorism and are the ones to be concerned about. The I got mine, everyone is a terrorist, expose yourself what do you have to hide crowd.

Please, just go home. Seriously. You have nothing to offer Thailand.

My wife is not a terrorist and neither are the tens of thousands marching in the streets for better governance.

Obviously, you are pretty much a self absorbed sort of goof. You have never been to any demo(s) yourself when you were young. You are simply for whatever makes your life easier.

    Your Life

    Easier

  10. As has been noted in othe rposts, the real problem is illegal immigrants from neighboring countries, NOT WESTERNERS..!!

And what makes you think that? You think a westerner that is doing monthly visa runs for years is considered highly desirable in Thailand? There is nothing in it for the immigration too. When you apply for a tourist visa at a Thai consulate at least you pay the visa fee but at the border you just make undesirable and unnecessary traffic. No fees so there is no money to even pay the officers at the border.

I totally agree with you, but by extendion of your own "logic" in prior post, it would be all the support services of ths type of person that would suffer, so they would not do do.

In your past post, you listed a bunch of services that would come under pressure. Well, it would be the runner, that is the true TR runner, not just those doing border hopes to refresh visas that would be using ssid services most.

In addition, there is his guest house, his eateries and his pubs. Medicsl, dental, airlines. Not to mention other "things".

In Asia, govt does not care about impacts on businesses unless those businesses are paying officaldom to care about them in some very direct way. Often times very great things are offered to countries and are turned away because the of the refusal to pay persons off to mske it happen. The nation held hostage to corruption.

  11. At the moment:

Paacha Moo Gorp. It's loaded with fresh herbs including green peppercorn (love) and keffir lime leaf (love) and krapow (basil). OMFG yum.

    Always a favorite:

Kuay tiew sen lek moo (nam sai). Pork noodle soup (prefer red pork sliced) lots of stuff in it, Chinese style. Great breakfast!

  12. How do you find out that the taxes are all paid up at land office? That should occur before you hand over 1 baht, correct? No, ok you pay me and I will pay my taxes bs.

How do you know if the condo fees are paid up? Can a juristic person inform you of this (quickly)?

Might there be sny issues with outstanding electric bills and could that create problems for you? Most meters are in owners name, but thought I read some nonsense about bills also linked to condo. So, if the condo "owes", no power??

What if a wife is involved? You are buying under foreign quota, but married. Thete is no paper for you to sign away like a house, but it does if effect become half hers.

IMO I would never pay back taxes. As for transfer, I would not pay thst either. I would love to hear from those who have purchased many condos per the stsndard. No commissions and no transfer. That is their problem

    Sorry for the hijack

  13. Do not use alcohol to clean electronics <deleted>, it has huge amounts of water in it.

Blow it out with air. Reseat everything. If there are no memory errors, do not remove it. Memory is very easy to zap with static.

Most likely Dell is using onboard video (tl, dr). Just go get yourself a cheap 2nd hand card at Panthip fir a few hundred B.

  14. *Deleted quote edited out*

But it's always like this. If it's not your trollish behavior, it's someone else's, but it's always the same rant.

It's so tired and so vapid.

Non degreed older male who really needs the job going on and on and on about how degree holders don't measure up but those without higher education exceed and suceed.

Yup, Johns Hopkins - please stop giving us educated people, what a waste!

I mean if you were giving a lecture at Chula on how big a waste of time going to Stanford was and how irrelevant it was to you making a half billion dollars, I might have an ear.

You are just a sad guy with no money, no plan in life. Clearly never thought going to college was worthwhile. You learned by your 30s that was the worst chouce of your life, but it was too late.

Not really too late because the truth is, you don't have the discipline to get thru school.

Washed up in Thailand and uses teaching for 25k a month as a way to fuel his daily cigarette and ham sandwich habit. Half bottle of Lao Khao a night and an overweight and over the hill hooker once a month.

Some schools are crap, some students get nothing out of the process. Guaranteed many slackers study English as a major. But to castigate an entire group of people is just wrong snd to be so bitter toward those that have achieved what is honestly a fairly common achievement is just plain wrong.

You are clearly in the wrong vocation. Your stance would indicate that you think it perfectly fine for your graduating students to not seek higher education.

It's petulent, childish, stupid and wrong. Since when and how could learning be a bad thing.

I bet half the managers at McDonald's in the US have no less than an AA or AS.

To end the argument, lets just say that it is a piece of crap paper, a barrier to entry. You don't have that ticket. You lose.

You must be lovely to work with.

  15. So pathetic, I am so bored, so I teach...

Now THAT, that friends is a pure thrills

You people move to one of the most beautiful, dynamic parts of the world and the best you can come up with, despite pockets brimming in cash is to entertain yourselves by working often illegally in a hot noisy mess of kids that you cannot even understand.

    Sheeeeeesh

Teachers were supposed to be smart.

  16. I agree there are plenty of degree snobs who are rubbish teachers, I've witnessed a few in the past. I've said this previously and I stick by it now, if you're staying here for the long term and want a progressive career in teaching. Learn to speak Thai. If you can write vocabulary translations on the board and explain grammar points in Thai, it's very helpful. Aside from that you're immediately accepted into what is often a very challenging workplace environment. Social suicide is hard to avoid, when you're dealing with a face culture.

    "degree snobs"

You are correct because the non-degreed misfits never last a month.

Sure non-degreed teachers are working in Bangkok and if they can hold down a job at the same school for a few years at a time as opposed to getting axed annually, they are good enough for Thailand and I would be willing to make an exception.

I see a liberal arts BA plus a 120 hour TEFL course proper for Thailand to demand. If they think they can fill the employment roster with BA Ed's. Well, good luck.

That is what most of you are missing:

    ASEAN + Filipino's = B15k = Problem Solved

Yeah, it would be great to be given a course in Thailand but we all know that is not going to happen for many, many reasons. <deleted> they cannot even roll out a date for the TCT exams or keep the idiotic Thai Culture Course going.

Finally, to "quality" have you ever seen a college student carrying around a backpack full of books? One book? Reading? Anything?

  17. Both the govt and Suthep are in precarious positions but the govt has the upper hand.

All Yingluck has to do is clear the streets and win the election. Game over.

The people in the streets are not tough ted shirts fiwn from Issan to pick a fight. They are soft middle class Bangkokians who are out as much for a bit of fun as to make a statement. If the shi* really does start, Suthep will lose the mob.

Yingluck has the high ground. Suthep's demands fir govt to be turned over to him or anyone is ridiculous and undemocratic. Her party though is an abysmal failure.

What I don't understand is why the F Yingluck is on the ticket again. To me, this really does tell me her family is in deep and does have an agenda. They could not find domeone else to lead the party <deleted>?

PS That guy with the grenade is a real tosser, figuatively as well as literally.

Need to check Pattaya boys town for that guy, not the Seal barracks.

  18. This is a trollish post but also.to toss into the questions

Did she come out of a bar

    Did you meet her online

Does she have a proper, solid job

Did you meet her in Pattaya, Phuket

Is her English better than avg Thai

Can she speak or say any words in addl langs other than English

Have her spend the money on the blood test than dna and send results to you.

I had a scammy slut back in US years ago wanted me to pay for abortion. We slept together once, protected sex. Sure, send me the bill. Never heard from her.
