  1. Ok. Thanks, I got the complicated stuff (tied to bonds, munifunds...). So we are talking just a simple account that all the banks advertise currently about 2.4 for 4mos? Presume its done not on paper but in a passbook and that book is given to you.

Also assume that secured debit card (book held by bank). No good despite you having immediate access to half funds. You get paperwork and book copies.

  2. I have heard that there is a certain type of timed deposit that can be used for extensions. Could anyone explain this and is it a rock solid rule or do they sometimes get kicked back by Immigration?

So the question is simple. Diffences in types of accounts and which Immigration readily accepts. Also, in either case woild Immigration want to see an additional book that is used for typical deps/wds?

Is this exclusive to BKK, CM and Pattaya where I believe Immigration mostly has it's act together or does say even Krabi or Nan accept this method?

  3. I have only gone in to look at a few new projects but the salesgirls strike me as a huge impediment to sales. My hunch as with the op case, going quiet is that despite this guy being serious about buying, sge does not see her commission and therefore has shut him out.

For my years in Thailand, just knowing the Thai let slone the laws and property markets - renting makes good sense but if you wish to buy, purchase something built and not simply a plan. And yes, Im married to a Thai.

Before anyone buys anything they should google:

    Condo bubble Bangkok 2013

    and

    "One bedroom" condo bubble Bangkok

There must be nearly 50k empty condos in BKK at the moment. Completed and under construction, not incl off plan.

Land is totally overpriced to begin with. Huge parcels of vacsnt land exist in central BKK with other massive amounts of crappy property that could be cleared. Land is held by very few and they trickle it out like the diamond trade.

    Remember 1997

Thai's do not like sharing with outsidets. Don't wait around for that Thai passport or ten year visa.

Finally, with the US Fed unwinding, bubble in China (India, Indonesia, Philippines) and huge economic and political problems in Thailand, the thb has nowhere to go but down.

  4. If you are in your twenties, handsome and can foot the nill for clubbing, restaurants, etc you have a shot. Bear in mind Thai women's mindset is about 16 in western years. You won't be getting a lot of sex and if she really, really likes you thete would be expectation of marriage. Decent women here don't go thru three dozen men before they marry.

Best woman to focus on is someone fifteen years younger up to as many years as you can deal with. Best pickings for wife is a woman with kids (if that is what you are after), but that aside a woman that enjoys travelling and is in her thirties. From a poor to working class station in life (many can't marry because the men do not want her families burden). There is a ton of women out there.

You have to be the right person. Being bald is not a plus, but bring fat, even paunchy, forget it. Next, you need a game. You need to be cool and have cool hobbies. Hobbies, activities are the best way to meet people. Young Thai's love to get outdoors, they are not very good at it, but they enjoy camping. They love taking a trip to an island.

Learn Thai. You will never get a uni girl without the language unless you are paying for it. Not if you are 50.

To Possum: my wife is a uni grad and without doubt not a prostitute. I would agree though that 70% of men marry hookers whether they knpw it or not. My wife also is attractive. But I would rather not be married otherwise. I could do without the diploma if she had a great job.

Get hobbies, lose weight, smile, be helpful, smile and no fatties. If you are hunting uni girls and over 40 best you be working out and can speak some Thai. Otherwise, order in off the dating sites.

  5. Just for the off-topic posts.

Sorry but I'm not spending 10 hours on an overnight bus, especially when you can fly to a nearby destination for 500b more.

Flying to Sav.... wrong timing and wrong departure location for me, and unappeasing price with international taxes.

It is never b500 more. No idea the cost but will guarantee it will be a thousand. Then you have the money to get to the airports. Getting ti o Morchit should cost you under b100 from anywhere on the transit lines. Then you will undoubtedly spend an extra night, for a high flyer like you (pun intended). Posh hotel and a french meal, that is another -1500.

To the poster above, because this is an old thread. I think Savan is no longer running.

Why dont you go to Singapore for your visa if you have such disdsin for Lao people?

Sorry you are forcing yourself to stay in a shithole. Say hrllo to yhe cavemen for me.

This is so typical of tv postets these days. They live on an islsnd called Thailand. Stepping off the islamd fatal. Why bother? Go home.

  6. Mostly, I just think you are by and large a group of old, stodgy farts. 90% of Thaivisa posts reflect this. Selfish, small minded, fearful, fastfood addicts and eternal lonesone Louie's. Stuck in your ways coming to Thailand to have someone half your age pay attention to you.

Mostly all the old farts I pass in the street just look out of place. Like its a hot struggle to exist moving themselves from.one ac building to the next.

Heaven help us the retiree, bored that has decided he wants to teach out of sheer loneliness. Double so when they have no degree.

    Leave the teachers alone :-)

  7. We travel a lot and while my wife looks nothing like a pro, I am very sensitive to the farang-thai couple tbing. She comes from a very poor background and neither she nor anyone in her extended family turned to hooking for fast money. I am careful who I speak with when we are out traveling. I always have a smile and hello for everyone, but really only interested to meet peopke like us - couples.

Prostitutes can be coarse, they always have an agenda they are working (janging on their "man". No idea why guys need to bring hookers to travel with them, but it has markedly decreased in past years.

I am not saying your wife or gf is a hooker and if she is, I dont care, its your life - but I do not want to expose my wife to her or you or the drama that often ensues.

Having said that, sometimes all these women need is a good man and a shot at a stable life and they turn out to be quite decent people. Still, if she has kept the mindset, I want her nowhere near my wife. We don't want to see her bs efgirts to manipulate you and my wife does not want to be in some yakking match about what I have done (bought) for her and her family - or better, what she has been able to bleed out of me.

Wife was mortified some years back while Intenet hooker went on snd on about how her smelly, toothless, tobacco stained farang she just met was going to build a house for her on her mothers land. Looked at my wife liked she was dime kinda stupid hanging out with me for nothing. Funny thing is we have built quite a reputation at that NP. I mean everyone knows us, the NPnstaff, the staff from the outfits, the return campers. My wife has a ten year visa to US. Bet that Internet hooker doesn't have that house.

I actually wanted to create a camping club for Thai/farang couples but then thought that unless these couples were outdoors, active people first it was going to be ugly. Sort of forced activities.

  8. Dec 2013 will mark the demise of the THB and Thai economy. If Thailand cannot sort out its politics and especially if there is violence. Government is starting to have serious debt issues. Consumer debt at record highs as well as corporate borrowing. Thailand was never really competitive in the region insofar as labor. Thailand has very low productivity rates. Massive 1br condo bubble. Thailand has lost it's western tourists and they won't be back, this will eventually leave holes in upper and lower ends of the sector. Finally, it's a gut feeling but I think the message is out in the expat eorld, Thailand's best days are behind her, you need a reason to retire/long stay here. If Thailsnd blows up again, imo this will signal to anumber of entities that it is not a place to invest. Japanese will move everytbing aside from auto mfg.

    US Fed already starts unwinding

    Waiting for China to implode

    We will see USD1/THB38+ again

  9. Ive not read the other posts but here it is.

I applied and was given secured debit card from scb, applied with thai gf (now wife) in tow. I was on a tourist visa and held two accts with them (one at the branch, another different branch). I was given 40k credit on 80k deposit @2.4%. Opened three years back, recently closed as I only needed it to rent cars in USA.

I had a few problems closing the card. First, staff at my bank speaks no English. Second, they gave me some bs about when I will recv the funds (actually, they had no clue and did not research). Customer Circus on the phone was little help (they are facilitators, not bank staff per-se). With five visits and at least as many calls, I was able to close the acct and have money in one of my scb accounts in about seven working days.

They are in no hurry to refund. Make sure you have evidence of your book, deposits and card before throwing anything into the abyss.

From what I gathered, my situation was expedited because I was doing dom yelling. Read on...

I wanted to pay bslance with the deposit. Cannot. So I went to machine to pay, it ate my card. With no card (and they keep the book), I was in a very sketchy position although I had all my copies of the book, paperwork and statements. I had no book nor a card and was not happy.I felt the staff honestly did not give a F. Being fed bs fr a few days did not give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

    Pay your card before closing

  10. If you are serious about the job and this is just not some bs way to live in Thailand, live in Malaysia or Cambodia and pop over to do whatever you need to do.

The company seems like they want as little exposure to Asia as possible. No way they will help you set up a corporation, pay employees and pay everyones taxes. What will these employees even do? Not to mention 2mb cash sitting about waiting to get pilfered by you or staff. Then there is accounting and legal isdues for corporation.

    Lol. No cigar pal

  11. I do not know why anyone would go to the trouble and expense given the bleaching 2010.

Read some accounts on Reddit of new divers, they did not even see any hard corals.

Then there are the boats that dive illegally in the national parks routinely, dropping baby divers in snorkeling areas which scare off all the marine life for the snorkelers. They run the gensets all night long making all sorts of noise. Discharge diesel into the water. Divers throw trash overboard (fruit), feed fish. Thanks.

Most dive outfits are just shops, they sell you on to a big dive boat. It's a racket.

If you are not planning trips to Philippines and Indonesia, you might want to rethink investing in a course and equipment. You can see much of what is left in Thailand by snorkeling.

  12. Evisa as stated not accepted and it is $28 including all the taxs'/ cc charge

I have NEVER in the past 4 years paid more than $20 for a 1 month visa there nor been asked to pay more,

but then i have 8 or so Cambodian stamps in my passport with a few extensions as well on an Ordinary visa

Myself as well. Never one baht more than us20 although I was hassled more than usual last trip.

    Try this:

    Smile

    Say: No

    Smile

    Leave

  13. I use Fidelity, they reimburse atm fees as well although I seek out Aeon. Actually, I bring in a wad of cash and change it at Superrich.

I had some bs eith Schwab years back. Thought it a real Mickey Mouse operation.

I use a local bank I trust in states plus Fidelity for other things plus another entity.

I loathe big banks. Citi and BofA in particular. They will never touch my money.

If visiting a few times a year, get local atm. Bring some cash in and deposit. Use your bsnk at home for emergencies.
