A 66-year-old man sustained injuries after falling into a loading shaft compartment, at the automated car park near Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya. The accident occurred on the morning of 6 July, as the man, an avid fisherman, was attempting to shortcut through the building to reach the seafront.
Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation, along with an ambulance and rescue equipment, rushed to the scene located at loading area number 4, at the car park’s basement level. Mr Worapong Tangthong lay injured on the floor, after falling approximately 5 metres.
Rescuers found Mr Worapong with a visibly broken right leg and a laceration in his head. He was eventually lifted to safety and transported to Pattaya City Hospital for treatment.
Fishing gear, including a rod, was discovered nearby, indicating that Mr Worapong had likely been en route to fish when the incident occurred.
In statements given from his hospital bed, Mr Worapong explained that he had intended to cross the automated car park to access the beachfront more quickly. Unaware of the shaft’s opening, and still experiencing blurred vision following recent cataract surgery, he misstepped and fell into the void.
Fortunately, he was conscious enough after the fall to call for help, allowing rescue workers to locate and assist him promptly.
Authorities are now reviewing safety measures at the car park, including the visibility and security of shaft areas, to prevent future incidents.

Is a copy of the 90 day approved receipt required when extending a retirement visa?
Not for me. I carry a copy in my passport and one in my wallet. My friend has deleted his approval slip. Thanks for the replies. All much the same as I advised him.

Recently, after changing sites and going back to the newspaper site, I have to sign in again. Could it be that some of my comments are non PC? Anyone experiencing similar?

Great safety tip.
They are softer to land on. or act as airbags for the parents in a head on collision.

Three former senior officials from the Countess of Chester Hospital have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, as police widen their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crimes of convicted child killer Lucy Letby.
Letby, a former neonatal nurse now serving 15 whole life sentences, was found guilty last year of murdering seven newborns and attempting to kill seven others during a horrific spree between June 2015 and June 2016 at the Chester hospital. Her conviction prompted a far-reaching investigation, not just into her actions, but also into the hospital leadership’s response to the alarming rise in infant deaths during that period.
Lucy Letby being arrested 3rd July 2018
Cheshire Constabulary confirmed on Tuesday that three individuals who held senior leadership positions at the Countess of Chester Hospital during the time of Letby’s offences were arrested on Monday, June 30. They were all taken into custody on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and have since been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes, the senior investigating officer for Operation Duet, offered details on the direction of the ongoing probe. “In October 2023 following the lengthy trial and subsequent conviction of Lucy Letby, Cheshire Constabulary launched an investigation into corporate manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital (CoCH). This focuses on senior leadership and their decision-making to determine whether any criminality has taken place concerning the response to the increased levels of fatalities,” he said.
The scope of the investigation broadened earlier this year. “In March 2025 the scope of the investigation widened to also include gross negligence manslaughter,” Hughes explained. “This is a separate offence to corporate manslaughter and focuses on the grossly negligent action or inaction of individuals. It is important to note that this does not impact on the convictions of Lucy Letby for multiple offences of murder and attempted murder.”
Addressing the latest developments, Hughes confirmed, “As part of our ongoing enquiries, on Monday 30 June three individuals who were part of the senior leadership team at the CoCH in 2015–2016, were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. All three have subsequently been bailed pending further enquiries.”
He added that the twin investigations — one into corporate manslaughter and the other into gross negligence manslaughter — remain ongoing. “There are no set timescales for these,” he said.
Hughes also emphasized that police inquiries are not limited to the Chester hospital. “Our investigation into the deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the neo-natal units of both the Countess of Chester Hospital and the Liverpool Women’s Hospital between the period of 2012 to 2016 is also ongoing.”
The arrests mark a significant escalation in the search for accountability surrounding one of the most harrowing criminal cases in recent British history. While Lucy Letby faces life in prison without the possibility of release, investigators are now probing whether systemic failures and leadership decisions at the hospital may have contributed to the tragic loss of life — and whether those in charge at the time should also be held criminally responsible.

Just another reminder of one of the primary rules of life on Earth:

Well, good for you that 91 is your number today, I can only hope.
Sheryl mentions a site/company (that I have not checked), that will take care of everything, but at a cost. Depends on how fancy you want to go.
For me, no fuss. A quick ceremony at the local Wat. Half my ashes to be scattered in Sattahip Bay to join my mother, who passed away here in 2000. The remainder, sent back to the UK to be scattered where my first wife's ashes are scattered.

You can donate your body to Chulalongkarn University, where it will be used for research and/or instruction for medical students. There are some exclusions though: body too decayed, rabies, HIV, Hep B and C, active TB, advanced state of cancer, radioactive implants within last six months, death due to accident where possible legal issues are involved. You'll have to prearrange or have your executor coordinate for travel of your body to the University. They'll have 20 days to do what they will, after which they'll cremate whatever is left and provide ashes to whomever you stipulate. Only cost is the freight to get you there. This is about as no frills as it gets in Thailand. You'll have to go to Chula University to register, but only takes a few minutes to do so. Make sure to bring your passport. For more info call them at 02-256-4751 or 02-256-4281.
If I did this, now at 91, I would most probably get rejected as being well past my Best Before date and being Unfit for Human Dissection.😀

A Thai woman's audacious social media post demanding a suitor provide her with 1 million baht per month has stirred up a significant online frenzy, capturing the attention and imagination of users nationwide.
The post, which emerged today, features the woman dressed in a student uniform, articulating her unapologetic need for substantial financial support. She boldly states, “I’m searching for someone who ‘understands my value’ enough to offer 1 million baht a month without questioning why it’s expensive.”
Her demands don’t stop at a sizable monthly allowance. She also mentioned the desire for luxury timepieces, specifying brands like Patek Philippe and Rolex, adding a touch of glamour to her request.
The viral post has drawn a spectrum of reactions from netizens, ranging from disbelief to admiration. Some users mock the extravagance, with one commenter quipping, “It’s like she’s selling herself on a high-end auction site.” Others, however, are taken by her confidence and clarity about her desires. “She clearly knows her worth,” chimed another, though noting that the cost might seem unattainable for most.
At the heart of the controversy is the question of value in today’s digital age. The woman’s post challenges traditional notions of relationships, prompting a broader discussion about self-worth, financial dependence, and the so-called ‘luxury influencer’ culture that has grown popular on platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
Many users are debating whether her demands reflect a broader trend among young people to seek lavish lifestyles without the means to sustain them independently. There is a split between those who see it as a pragmatic approach to modern relationships and those who decry it as materialism.
Regardless of opinions, the post has certainly achieved one thing: it has got people talking. The sheer audacity of demanding such an extravagant lifestyle, combined with her nonchalant rejection of the question “why so expensive?”, highlights a growing culture fascinated by luxury and status.
As this debate continues to unfold online, it raises important questions about societal values and the true meaning of self-worth, leaving everyone to ponder: is this outspoken woman setting a new standard, or merely fuelling a trend that prioritises wealth over emotional connection?
