  1. The bank letter can be the day before at CW. But your bank book needs to be updated on the date you apply (no ATM slip accepted).

Not sure about the page copies of the bank book but better to many than not enough.

What is the "seeding" period for a 1st time renewal based on marriage,2 or 3 months? Thanks in advance.

It is 2 months for every extension. The 3 months is only for retirement extensions.

    Thank you, most helpful.

  2. Well, never say never, everything is possible. As I said I had the same problem with my SCB ATM at Frankfurt airport 3 weeks ago. Just did not work, even though they said it was activated at the branch on Hang Dong Rd, bit further down from Central Airport on the left. They probably meant the CC, as I showed them both. That is not a standard thing they have in their scripts and they obliviously fail to do what is asked because they just don't know it as part of their daily work. Does not mean they would not tell you some BS that all is good and done.

Thats scary especially if you needed to pay for a flight home urgently.

  3. If you got a new card you would have to activate that new card to make it working outside Thailand. But believe what you want, up to you smile.png

Had an internet purchase also declined recently. Apparantly SCB say coz. it needs to be activated for internet use also. This was for an Air Asia ticket and had to pay at the local 7/11 plus a further fee on top! AaaaaaaaaaaH! took over an hour to sort it!

  4. If they are having to pick up there medical bills that's a crime on its own... The authorities should have picked the bill up if only as a goodwill gesture... Regardless of who did what and when there is no justification for the level of violence shown in this attack.. And once again the big issue being the damage to Thai tourism and the country...The General could have done himself some big favours by coming out and deploring this incident! and insisting the perps are punished correctly.

I agree that TAT or = should pay the medical bills if no insurance cover was effected. Bangkok hospital have also missed out on some goodwill advertising by waiving or at least reducing their (usually outrageously high) fees.

  5. Just came back from Central Festival. Holy shit you guys weren't kidding, pricing was absolutely ridiculous. A potential tax refund in Bangkok would only be like 5% or something in VAT, so for sure not even close to being worth it.

I'll take the advice and skip the fashion purchases until back home. Thanks a lot for all the answers! Take care.

Better still, give wifey an envelope stuffed with some £50's!

  6. I am currently in dispute with Nationwide UK over this very charge.

If you go onto there website and click on fees and charges for SWIFT transfer it will say £20, and if you verbally ask one of their staff what the charge is, you will be told £20. However, tucked away in the terms and conditions you will find reference to them using a third party (HSBC) to facilitate the transfer and they may(will) levy a charge against you for doing so.

All a bit underhanded in my book, and on top of that, because I wasn't expecting this extra scam of a charge, it put me overdrawn and incurring interest charges, albeit miniscule amounts. So at the moment as a matter of principle I am trying to get the charges taken off

I no longer use Nationwide (Proud to be the same as every other bank) for O/S transfers because of their excessive charges and gave up on Bangkok Bank 6 years ago when they demanded c.£20 for a small transfer of less than a million THB. Lloyd's Bank have recently reduced their SWIFT transfer rate to £9.50 (was £17.50 'til November this year) so I use them ; takes about 2 days.

  8. The Hellfire Pass itself.

    attachicon.gifKanchanaburi_Hua Hin Trip 011.jpg

The Pass was given it's name because, with the increasing workloads, work continued into the night, lit by firelight, creating an image considered to be similar to hell.

    attachicon.gifKanchanaburi_Hua Hin Trip 013.jpg

In this pic, the railway sleepers can be seen still in place in the ground. The torment of those who carried out the task of placing those sleepers is dreadful to contemplate,

    attachicon.gifKanchanaburi_Hua Hin Trip 012.jpg

A view from the site of the railway. Again, a time for thoughts of those who never enjoyed this view.

  9. music is a bit dreary.

    What would you prefer?

Kylie Minogue singing "I should be so lucky"?

after the first minute, I was expecting the "Funeral March". Or maybe the good ol' song. "why are we waiting....?"

Or the great Monty Python's :"Always look on the bright side of life....te boom te boom...."

  10. So he loses a shit load of money, advises people not to retire here, then re-marries! crazy.gif

For purely practical reasons, try bringing up kids as a lone parent!. He probably has no problems either with getting his new wife entry clearance to the UK where he will no doubt settle and his kids get a free education. A sad case indeed , a man who trusted too much before realising that there is little recourse to due process and an independant ,unbiased legal culture.

  11. The good news is that this has gone viral and has been reported as a "don't invest in Thailand" campaign. The prime minister will not be happy about this documentary and will hopefully act to help these guys, not because he cares, but because he won't want to lose face and put off would-be investors. But then as we all know, when it comes to the islands like Phuket and Samui, there are seriously powerful families that rule above the police and government.

EArlier this week the PM was optimistic about attracting more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Thailand . I wish him every success and moreso, in his efforts to stamp out corruption , in Phuket and elsewhere.

  12. don't increase the number of students but the QUALITY please

Also improve the English language skills of young people who have been let down by succesive governments on this front. Once these students graduate many will go into the building, car servicing ,carpenty, hotel services and numerous other fiedls where they will have to interact with foreigners and communicate with them. Thailand is desperate to attract foreign investments as the economy continues to falter. English language skills must be central to any technical and vocational training.

  13. What would be the point of studying thai language or culture.....???? In another 30 years it will be part of china anyway once China invades and takes over after Democracy has been totally bastardized to operate exactly like communism.

In any case.... you might as well learn Latin....it's a dead language too.

Cynical bstard. and what bllocks you talk. No such thing as "democracy" anywhere in s.e Asia or indeed the USA!
