  1. Surat Thani International Airport certainly does have Immigration officers. http://www.suratthaniairport.com/flight-status-arrivals-departures

Poorly written story which has them flying to BKK - home, and to Malaysia to continue their holiday. It also seems that of 3 uni students, not one could read the departure stamps which clearly state UNTIL.

Some years ago, there was an Oz lad working a scam flights to Oz out of DMBKK, claiming he didn't have enough to pay the departure tax, and promising to post the money when he got home. Didn't like the suggestion he could hand over his watch as security. I saw him collect B500 from one mug, go away and come back 10 mins later for another go.

2 different groups of people, dopey.

were champions at that,I remember bank queues

before they started to use ropes and Q numbers,

You haven't seen anything until you've seen "lining up" anywhere in the Middle East. In fact, there are no lines, except at international airports OUTSIDE SAUDI ARABIA.

I don't see farang doing much better lining up at Thai Immigration offices either. That's pretty much pigs at slop time.

    ...farang being the slops.

    UPDATE

Objects Spotted In Sea In Missing Plane Search

An Australian plane has spotted objects in the sea during the hunt for the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501, officials have said.

Indonesian officials said the search team had made the discovery while searching for the jet which stopped communicating with air traffic control over the Java Sea in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Earlier, the chief of Indonesia's search effort said that the missing AirAsia passenger plane "is likely at the bottom of the sea".

Bambang Soelistyo added that an initial investigation into the disappearance had revealed that the "estimated crash position is in the sea".

More than a dozen ships have been sent to the area to try to find the aircraft.

Australia, Singapore and Malaysia have deployed planes to assist in the Indonesian-led search.

The UK, France and the US have offered technology to assist in the search for debris, much of which may not be on the surface.

Search teams are currently scouring an area where the sea is 40-50 metres (130-160 feet) deep, Mr Soelistyo told journalists.

Distraught relatives spent the night in the Indonesian city of Surabaya hoping for news of loved ones.

One, who called herself Intan, called on Indonesia to ask for help from other countries, rather than try to carry out the search alone.

She said: "My hope is Indonesia seeks as much help as possible from other countries. Don't claim 'We have sophisticated technology', just ask other countries because they are better equipped.

"My prayer is I really, really hope that there will be news about the people on board. Whatever it is, what is important is we know where they are now."

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the twin-engine aircraft around an hour after it left Surabaya's Juanda international airport at about 5.35am on Sunday local time (10.35pm on Saturday, UK Time).

The flight had been on its way to Singapore.

One Briton was among the 162 on board, with the rest from Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and France.

  4. The baby will be born in Australia as my wife is here on. A 12 month tourist visa .

Yes I know no Medicare and all that but we are covered don't worry .

But does that help with us not needing the 2 year wait for the (100) visa

I'm pretty sure that the condition of having a dependent child would have to be met at the time the application is made, not when the visa is granted. But I'm not 100% sure.

  5. Hi guys,

Just got visa granted after 9 months and 1 day. Applied in Bangkok for (309) and (100) in March and the Permanent, (100) was granted straight away. Didn't have to wait 2 years. There is no requirement to be out of the Australia for the (100) to be granted, so the missus could've come over months ago on a Tourist Visa and just stayed herefacepalm.gif

At least my year will have a happy ending biggrin.png

    Great news seabass.

    One small question though.

Just how did you apply for both Visas simultaneously?

I've heard of them, on rare occassions being granted simultaneously ... but never applied for simultaneously.

So, importantly ... Just how did you apply for both Visas simultaneously?

When you lodge the application for Partner Visa, subclass (309) and (100), you are actually applying for 2 visas at the same time. The (309) is temporary and "gets you in the door". After 2 years of the lodgement date, the department will make a decision about the (100) permanent visa, without a new application having to be made.

  7. Trigger, don't sweat it. It's an easier language to read that you'd think, and showing a basic understanding of it- even if flawed- is what immigration will be looking for- evidence that you've tried to learn. They won't be throwing the daily newspaper at you and demanding you read it out loud.

Take a moment and watch these two videos (they're about five minutes long each) - by the end of them you'll actually be able to read some basic Thai. Great videos, they totally demystify the process

I'm wary of people who profess the ability to teach other languages, yet show a lack of knowledge of their first language.

  8. whistling.gif Have you used your ATM card in Thailand before?

Some banks block your ATM card if you use it in Thailand.

You need to call the bank and talk to their credit card fraud people, and get them to authorize that card for "overseas use".

This happened to me about a year ago.

I was back in the U.S. and got a new ATM/debit card from my bank then as my old card was running out.

I specifically told the clerk that my card was to be used in Thailand for on-line purchases.

She however, failed to pass this information on.

So when my card was approved their was no notice that the card "would be used outside the U.S." legally by myself.

The first time I got back to Thailand, and made an on-line purchase, it was blocked for "possible fraudulent use" because it was used overseas.

Took me 4 or 5 telephone calls, and about two hours of effort until I finally found someone who could unblock it.

Most of the brainless bimbos that the bank has to answer telephone complaints from customers are clueless about the banks policies, they are just pretty fluff designed to smile at the customers.

Turned out my U.S, bank "outsources" it's security/fraud problems to another security company.

Once I got that company, and talked to their "ATM fraud" personnel, they cleared and resolved my problem in about 15 minutes.

The root cause was that brainless bimbo who forgot to put the notification on my application that "card will be used overseas for on-line purchases", as I told her when I applied for a replacement card.

    blink.png

"So when my card was approved their..."

    There, there.
