  1. Maybe Thailand can consider a Safe Surrender Law. It goes like this, a baby within 48 hours of birth and can be safely surrendered to any Fire Station, Police Station or hospital. The mother regardless of age is not questionned. It is tough being a single mother in any country. In many Asian countries single mothers face judgement and are stigmatized. This poor girl already faces a difficlut life and it just more difficult now with a new born to raise. I give her credit for leaving the baby at a temple and not in dumpster. She and what remains of her family will probably have to raise the chiild alone. In LOS can a mother sue for child support? I hope at least members of the community help and not judge her.
  2. As a long time former resident of Southern California the Los Angeles City Council represents an alternative viewpoint on how to run a city. That is how to run a city into the ground. At one time LA was a great place to live and work. Even now when I go back for my visits back to CA the only time I am actually in the city of LA is when I arrive at LAX airport and when I leave from LAX. Notice this Council Member said "LA Borders"? No city in the US has a border. It has city boundaries.
  3. This is from a city council meeting in Los Angeles. The person asking is LA City Council member Imelda Padilla and the person answering is LAPD Chief Jim McDonnel. At least the Chief knows the law.
  4. Of course the mystery can be solved if the BKK Embassy would do just one thing: Email the passport applicant the Thai Post Courier tracking number (this starts with 2 letters and then 9 numbers and ends with TH). when the envleope is sent. Of cousre this would require additional work by an Embassy employee so it will not happen. My Thai courier passbook envelope with the two passports arrived at my apartment building on a Wedneday but I did not find it until Saturday because of the unorganized manner that the apartment office receives mail and packages. Anyways for me "mission accomplished" and if there is a next time I will probably do it from the USA.
  5. Hey. Go Big or Go Home. Good luck to her. Just one month at her asking price would go a long way.
  6. When I paid the 100 Baht I did not get a tracking number. I got a confirmation of payment number. The Tracking number was on the address label of the envelope that had my two passports.
  7. Most bread in the US has too many ingredients. But fewer ingredients means shorter shelf life. In my old neighborhood few actual bakeries were around. Only real option was to buy the brand name breads from the usual stores. In CNX I usually go to Miyazaki and St Etoile bakeries which are located in the major malls for baked goods.
  8. Mine was 29 total days. 1) It took 13 days to get the "application in progess" email from state. 2) 6 days later I gto the "passport mailed" email message. 3) Then I found the Thai Post envelope in front of the managers office of my apartment 9 days later.. Never got any kind of status message from the BKK Embassy, Overall the Passport Center did a great job.
  9. Yes. The only thing I knew was that the US State had sent the new passport out to the BKK Embassy on June 16, After that no other updates were posted on State or the BKK Embassy website. It does not appear the BKK Embassy notifies applicants that the new passports were mailed out through Thai Post. This type of update would have been nice to have so I could have looked for the envelope. I did track the progress of the delivery from BKK to me in CNX after I got the envelope because the Thai Post tracking # was only on the address label. My expectations of the BKK Embassy is really low and this time they did not disappoint. The real credit goes to State for such a fast turnaround.
  10. You know I wish I could have such a place but I am looking at the end of the LOS road for me and maybe I am suffering from Thai fatigue? 8 years and some good times but some bad experiences. Lately all of my contacts with the Thai people have been brief. I realize everyones Thai experience will be different but for me the first 2 to 3 years were good but the last few have not been so great. I have never seen anyone at my current gym wear a sweat suit. We have a sauna for that. Most mornings I am about the only one who uses it. It's almost like paraise for me in the sauna. Most of the Thai members do not grab a rag and wipe down machines because most fo the them do not sweat.
  11. The thing you can walk or run on with less knee pain. Sorry for the spelling error.
  12. It's not like we can complain to IMM officers. Therefore, many us feel the need to experss it on here. In the end have two choices: Do what you are told or start packing. When I am at IMM I maintain a blank expression and just " yes and thank you".
  13. Wow. I wish I had been aware of some these unknown visa transfer requriements before today. At least I could have prepared a large stack of documents.
  14. But I was told proof of insurance was only required for extensions and whenver i come back into Thailand. I was sitting in the room with a group of people who were getting their visa's canceled and this did not look or sound like a simple or short process. Some arrived when I first got there and most were still waiting after I left after 4 hours. For my next 90 day report I will bring my insurance policy documents as well. This will sound absured becuse we are in LOS but to truly veify complaince IMM shoulld actually call the bank or health insurance company. But we know this will never happen and today I had to actually submit 10 pages of documents to transfer a visa.
  15. Yes but this gym charges 1800 per month. For that kind of money I am actually going to use as much of it as I can. Now if it was 800 per month then I would understand most of Thai guys in the gym.
  16. Went to CM Immigration today to transfer visa from old to new passport. I thought this would be simple and quick. I was wrong. The visa transfer form states what to bring: 1. Both passports 2. Copies of both passport data pages 3, Copies of latest entry stamp and End of Stay stamp 4. Copy of Visa 5. Copy of visa extention Brought all those. Of course I had a copy of the TM-30 as well because just about anything one does with IMM now requires it. Went to the first counter to have documents checked and I was asked "where is your insuarnce"? I have a Non OA extension but I did not think that woudl be needed but I was wrong. Had to go back to my apartment and bring proof of medical insurance just to get the visa transfered. Today was a perplexing day.
  17. I get that but just lookinng at the mirror and looking at the phone while wearing ear buds and not actually using the gym equipment does not seem to be "waitiing"?
  18. Yes I am the most insecre in the world but at least I do not "own" a weight station and stare at my phone while others are patiently waiting. If that makes me inseure than I am guilty as charged.
  19. Not at the gyms I have been to in LOS. Most foreigners (except for the Chinese visitors) actually come in for a focused workout. No time for sending emojis or taking selfies.
  20. Well at the gym it seems like many do the following: 1) Look at themselves in the mirror at least once every 5 minutes 2) Take a selfie and then more selfies 3) After walking on the threadmill like a grandma for 10 minutes they act like they had just run a marathon 4) Not wipe down gym equipment after use. But actually why would they need to wipe it down because they do not sweat. It takes some level of intensity to perspire while working out. 5) Sit on gym equipment while looking at their phones while others are politely waiting. I thought going to the gym was to get a workout and not working out their phones. 6) Obviously this type of behavior does not apply to all Thai men but I have witnessed it many times during the years. Or I am the weird one because I leave my phone in the locker. The gyms I belonged to in the US prohibited phones on the gym floor. Oh heck in the eyes of most Thai people I am weird one. I doubt this kind of behavior would be tolerated at a Muay Thai dojo but the mid to high level gyms I have worked out at this is rather common amongst Thai men.
  21. Got my new passport today but a little annoyed at both Thai Post and of course the managment office of my building. 1. Sent out my renewal application to BKK Embassy on May 28 2025. 2. BKK Embassy mailed my new passport and old passport to me in CNX on June 24. It was received by the apartment management office on June 25. 3. Never got an email, text or Line message from anyone that the Thai Courier Pass Book had been delievered. Instead it was hidden under boxes that had been delieverd to other tenants in front of the management office. It's a good thing that today I rummaged throught the boxes and found my enevelope. This is the way my apartment handles mail and parcels: They just dump them in small boxes labeled by floor number and all boxes and parcels are stacked on the floor in front of the managment office. Not too secure but I keep reminidng myself "TIT". Overall I was actually impressed by the turnaround time. It was 29 days from start to finish. The new passport definitely looks different than the old passport. It actually looks like there are more security features imbedded into the passport book.
  22. A Norwegian tourist claims having this photo on his phone got him denied US entry. I mean it's funny but what is the harm if thsi story is actually true.
  23. Possibly just in case more strikes are needed? Better to keep a low profile on this General? Better to just keep Gen Kaine as the face of the operation(s).
  24. Of course I know CENTCOM. There are two type of General Officers: 1) The ones who get too much attention 2) The ones who get no attention. The latter are the one who get things done. In my last deployment to Astan the ISAF commander was Lt Gen Eikenberry. In 2009 he retired and Obama nominated him as the Afghan Ambassador. He always maintained a high profile. He definitely fit into the first category.
