  1. I see conflicting information How do you change non-b (working as a teacher) to non-o (for retirement) in-country? Chaeng Wattana, 63 year old American After Work-permit is cancelled (labor office) and Extension of stay changed(immigration), can I immediately use TM 7 to get a 90 day extension for retirement? Need to change to Non-o?
  2. I keep seeing conflicting information. People claiming impossible, and other people claiming it is possible. Office: Bangkok Chaeng Watana Currently on non-b (work permit teaching) 63 year old American. Can it be converted no non-o (TM-7 reason retirement) in-country? I have copy of passport, TM 30, 90-day, pictures. I am hoping when the school takes me to immigration to update my status, I can immediately apply for a non-o (reason for retirement) If I have to leave the country, do I renter on: Visa on Arrial, tourist Visa, on-O visa? Transfer of 800,000 Baht from America in process (using Wise). Marked the category - For Long-Term-Visa.
  3. I think the confusion here is about time left on your tourist visa. I forget if you need to have 30 or 45 days left on your Visa before they will convert it to a non-immigrant visa. I don’t know why they care about these left, but I know they care. Recently we had a teacher without enough days left on his visa and they had to pay for an extension for 30 days and then pay for the conversion to Non-B.
  4. I’m in a similar situation. Work permit until around end of March then retirement. Renting a condo. Over 60 years old. Don’t want to “park “ 800,000 baht in Thai bank, but prefer to keep it invested. For 1st time applicants, do I need to show 1 year of transfers (using Wise) or will 3 months be ok for 1st time using Bangkok immigration office.(don’t beed to leave country-right?) Medical insurance needed? (But I want to have it) I believe the cancellation paperwork will be done a couple weeks in advance. Can I got to immigration early with the paperwork showing the date my work permit (and therefore extension of stay) will be cancelled.
  5. As a US citizen my Social Security will not be taxed in Thailand. My ROTH IRA has already been taxed and from years of saving and investment and I think won’t be taxed again. I will get a small pension from my job I had working in California of about 30,000 baht a month (California is very aggressive on collecting tax on money earned in California) Taxable account n Thailand? Maybe no taxable income in Thailand? Plan to just live off dividends inside my ROTH IRA. I will getting extension for retirement starting around April this year. Currently working and paying tax in Thailand
  6. In America they call this trickle-up-economics. Their theory is if you give poor people a lot of money to spend (borrow trillions of dollars to hive to the poor), then businesses will grow to try to capture that money. In high school I was told this cause inflation. Maybe there are new theories now.
  7. If you are getting paid, you will not qualify for volunteer visa. Unless they provide false document to immigration, you will no longer qualify for immigration visa. maybe you could ask if you can the work they need, but you will do it as a volunteer and not receive money. My guess is that they either don’t know how to, or don’t want to, or unable to, provide documentation to directly hire you. if you’ve been enjoying it for a long time already, why not just continue to work as an volunteer
  8. Thank you for the information I hope I can get a new motorcycle license (maybe 2 years), and renew my 5 year Thai car license at the same time. (I have a non-immigrant B visa and work permit) I hope only need to take the driving exam for motorcycle (and the 3 test - reaction, color-blindness ...) I got a residence certificate on 19 April, I hope it is good for 6 months - but not sure. I know I need a medical certificate - do I need 1 for car and 1 for motorycle?
  9. I made an account (with US passport). I tried to book a resercation at the Bangjak Office but it was greyed out.(other areas were available but not Bangjak and not Chatuchak) My friend with a Thai ID was able to select the BAngjak office (Area 3) I have a second question, I hope to do 2 things at the same time 1) renew my 5 year license (expires early August) 2) apply for a new motorcycle license (do I have to do a written test still or just the driving skills test) The reservations asks if this is to renew a license or a new license. I want to do both. I am assuming both a car license and motorcycle license are usually on the same card. Since I have a 5 year car driving license, will I get 5 years for
  10. Were you successful in renewing your teaching license a year early?
  11. Around September of next year my 5-year Thai license expires. Any advice on how early I can renew and what is necessary? I have a lot of CPD through the TES website - especially relating to child safety and online safety. My last 3 years have been at the same international school. Thank you for the information.
