  1. We have lived in CM for many years. Moved from BKK to Phuket to Sukothai thence to CM. It is a great province: places like Mae On and Omkoi. The problem, inevitably, is that one becomes nostalgic to some extent for 'what it used to be like'! Phuket 30 years ago etc. The traffic drives me mad, the schools are not wonderful, I don't like the smoke, the housing estates depress me and I don't care if I never go into another mall ever again! Rimping probably the best supermarkets in the country. And we spend a fortune in the flower market! The variety of birds, the open roads, Huay Tung Tao are great. I think though , now, there are places to live maybe with fewer facilities but much better ambience. I prefer to have an airport handy so not Nong Khai and Mahasarakham nor Hua Hin/Cha Am but Nan, Krabi, Nakhon Phanom, even Ubon; all an hour on the plane to BKK. I suppose grass always greener somewhere? And for a choice Newcastle is the best UK city? H'm!!

Indeed—malls and moo-bans (sorry for the misspelling) get old real quick.

  2. So your signature must be a joke then, because why would you spend so much time on the computer and Internet when CM is heaven??

I don't mind CM, but it is still too small for me—I felt like I was living in a big neighborhood after a year, and the mountains didn't help. I also believe you are mistaken when it comes to attitude.

I love BKK now, because the people here are wonderful—not the "big smoke" stereotype that gets sold in the media, etc.—and the magnitude makes being here feel like a true adventure.

But, then again, I have always loved cities. I love the country too, but not to live in just yet.

    Have a good one!

  3. I am touching wood as I type (get your minds out of the gutter), but the Thai police have never caused me even the faintest discomfort. I have dealt with them in public, as well as in relation to a more serious matter, and they have led me to further exclaim Thailand as "The Kingdom."

I understand this doesn't help, but I rarely drink alcohol, live very simply, and try to behave like a guest, rather than someone who is entitled. Anyway, let's see what happens next ...

But do you touch wood also when walking around near Asoke and still not attract the attention of the police

Ha! Still touching wood and still no police grief thumbsup.gif

  5. 2 nigerians are to be charged, what about the 2million thai women that have done the same scam.

Let's just consider it "tax" for the countless number of non-Thais who come here and exploit the grossly inequitable status of the global economy in the 21st century.

Oh, and before you pipe up again, maybe you should first read the posts with implications of "naive and/or ignorant people deserve what they get."

Thanks meatboy (I actually tried to use that name, and now I know why the system wouldn't let me—you got to it first!).

  6. They are likely out source contract workers. Not direcf employees

    "...most likely..."

MrToad is the same as many of the anti-nomaders on TV. Working from an base of ignorance and disbelief simply because they are cloistered from what is actually happening in business today. So sorry Mr Toad that can't even see that his arguments are based on supposition. If you knew things you would not have to guess and say most likely. that's an opinion and you are very very wrong.

Most Likely???? Do you ACTUALLY know anything or just enjoy bagging people just because you don't like the way they live?

Good one. I really have no idea of business?

My comment that you quoted is wrong? No outsource workers? I gave no issue with legal workers, i dobt see why others feel that they should have special concessions when others get legal entities etc.

I believe earlier on in the thread I stated I had no problem with digital nomads provided what they do is legal and don't start demanding special privileges

As pointed out in terms of the DM definition given earlier on in the thread I belive myself to be a DM

Thank you kindly for this Soutpeel, as I will use this for your "Bio" section: "Based on the terms of the DM definition given in the ThaiVisa thread, Soutpeel believes that he is a DM" (apologies for the formatting)

    Is this okay?

  7. I don't wish for a date sir. I want to start the "mrtoad and Soutpeel's Ultimate Digital Nomad Guide for Thailand" project.

What do you think? Should we start with the "ALBC" page?

If you are going to continue to use acronyms such as ALBC, you should at least have the intelligence to spell it out in full in the first instance that you use it. That is the universally accepted English writing convention. A number of posters have asked for a definition and so far all I have seen is what someone thinks it what be.

If you had taken the time to read the whole post, you will see said acronym and definition was given earlier in the thread, so not my problem your illiterate TEFLer wink.png

Agreed! You really need to be far more thorough with your forum conduct raybal5, as Soutpeel is the expert here. I too have problems with "illiterate TEFLers" Soutpeel, so I understand completely smile.png

I replied too soon, as raybal5 is on board!

Which definition should I use sir?

No, no, you are mistaken sir. I originally thought similarly to you, but it is simply not true, as I experienced an epiphany today—they are actually the foremost experts on the topic. Will you join us in the creation of the ultimate guide?

  10. I have been inspired by mrtoad and Soutpeel today, so I am proposing a new resource so that we can be sure that we are aware of all matters pertaining to Digital Nomads in Thailand. What does everyone think?

I am thinking of a Wordpress blog to publish their expertise if they are both amenable to the idea? If we can garner the support of other TV members, than we can actually create the ultimate resource on the topic, thereby laying rest to the potential of future confusion.

I am serious about this. Are there any other supporters?

Sorry I know your excited at the mention of my name, but I actually prefer young ladies, sorry, maybe talk to JSPILL believe he was involved in gay tourism promotion he might know someone you can be happy with wink.png

But JSpill knows nothing sir. The quality of our resource will be severely compromised, don't you think?
