According to the info I read, these "stranded" tourists account for around 3k people. Please, do NOT put everyone in the same basket. There might be very different cases and particular situations. My gut feeling tells me that 90% of them are tourists that could have gone out but were ok to get "stranded". Still, there is 10% (i.e. 300 people) who might have really got stuck because of multiple various situations that we cannot judge in this forum without knowing them.

What if a tourists arrived when there were no restrictions, got injured in the hospital and was not discharged till restrictions on travel appeared? What if a tourist was robbed back in his home country or lost his ebanking credentials, or his credit card is lost and cannot get a new one? There is a myriad of situations that for some of those tourists might apply, and not all of them are just hippy travelers that decided to get stranded in Phuket and enjoy free resources. Although as you guys, I believe that amounts for most of them. BUT NOT ALL.

One case I know: A tourist came in before restrictions, once he wanted to go out his flights were cancelled. Sure he will get a refund but that will take a while. Back home his mother passed away at the very same time. He needed to pay for the funeral, and the tuition of his sister because she was living on the salary of the mum, but the bank accounts in that country get locked down automatically after a person passes away and until the heritage things are sorted out. So he needed to put down a big amount of cash. And right now his home country does not allow him back in. All in all, sure there would be like a complicated way to sort out things and get back home. But is not like he is here for the fun.

Lots of creative writing here, gut feelings etc

At the end of the day Nothing is stopping them from asking family, friends to send them money.

Western Union, banks, Atm's all operational.

I arrived here in 2002 and one clear change to Thailand is the lowlife that appears here. Yes back in the day you'd see the occasional filthy begging foreigner but these days they're everywhere.

I understand at times why we now see Thai people broadcasting their anger towards us foreigners.

Thai people generally don't save, they don't have assets they can sell, no superannuation or pension fund they can cash in.

Leave their bloody free food alone.

    They have nothing.

I wouldn't want to be a teacher in Thailand right now waiting to get paid.

    International School Teachers

My son goes to an International school, the kids have been home-schooling…..what a joke, all that money I paid for the little effort and schooling.

Now the teachers have been told that they need to stay at home and teach the class.

His teachers complains about this stay at home technique but we all know it’s basically money for nothing, he’s got to be as happy as a pig in <deleted>.

Also, on another note, an international teachers schooling year is short, I have looked at the calendar and it looks like they have 15 weeks off school per year, so the teachers are also having 15 weeks paid leave per year.

    It’s disgraceful

    He rented a studio room

Now, I often wondered how people can live in a room. Lots of people do it, not for me.

I can understand why he moved back, I would have done the same.......... poor planning.

I have always owned a house, bought my first at 22yo. As soon as I moved here in 2002 I found a housing development, bought of the plan, built 2003 and been living here with my family ever since.

At 65 its an age that I would imagine find difficult to adjust, he's probably mis-managed the whole process, it's not simple, a lot of thought and planning involved. Sounds like an expensive lesson

I have been working offshore on rotation over the years so I've been very fortunate.

My sister in law lives with me

Why are you living with people, I couldn't think of a worse, what an awful way to spend your later years of life.

I will assume you are middle age to elderly.

    Immediate family ONLY, no excuses.

Why punish yourself, I'm getting ill thinking about your situation.

For gods sake, housing is cheap in Thailand.

I'd be forking out a few thousand baht a month for a room/apartment......Get rid of her.

I feel sorry for these people. Little or no education.

Without proper education it is possible for such stupid behaviour.

I think this is a generalization. How do you know they have little or no education. What you could factually say is that they have all been brainwashed. This is a fact of all religions.

    Whatever

I went for run this morning wearing the common green mask.

I decided to pull it down under my nose then it filled up with sweat making heavier.

I decided to pull it further down under my mouth, I will see if I offend anyone, if so I will pull it up... see what happens on he next run.

Over the many weeks I have had to conform (and so many of you) with the many changes.

First they closed my gym, then the park, now the wearing of a mask, hope things get back to normal soon.

your still alive, so stop complaining.  ????

I'm not complaining, are you a Troll, nothing constructive to say?

    I was offering information.
