  1. Ubonjoe- wasn't aware it was now 30 days on an extension...Where can I get that done please?

Canarysun- are the trains less riskier that the mini vans? Sounds great for 44baht !

    Hello!

I refuse to use these minivans " anything that moves on thai roads is a death trap " There are two trains a day out of Hua Lampong railway station 05.55 and i think it arrives at 11.30 at a cost of 48 baht ( The trains are safe, slow and fabulous scenery en route! You will of course have to pay a visa fee at the Cambodia Border. Many people are now doing the Visa runs themselves, especially the Laos trip which has always been a complete " rip off " when the train is ridiculously cheap and much more of an adventure!

There is never a rush in life for anything so why not take a bit longer and explore these wonderful countries!

I couldn't agree more, visa runs are a 'rip off' and a round trip by minivan....I'll say no more.

I do my three monthly visa runs by air either a daily round trip to KL or to Mae Sai via Chiang Rai. Depending on the time of travel, the airfare can work out cheaper than a visa run by minivan.

End March have already booked a flight to Chiang Rai but certainly I'll give the train a go to Cambodia in Sept. You say you'd pay the visa fee at the border but would the trip include an overnight stay or would you be able to return say day?

No, I think the train you're referring to goes to Poipet. I'll stick to flying.

    Enjoy.

219 members of Thai NLA out of 220 attending to vote on Yingluck impeachment. With criminal charge already filed it's clear how vote will go

Voting underway on Yingluck impeachment motion in the Thai NLA. Members casting yellow ballot for YL, white and pink for 2 former speakers.

  4. It's under International EMS Document (#6 on the list), and it's 950 Baht.

If it's not a vital document, probably better to use registered mail (long tabian) - a lot cheaper.

Thanks AyG for your quick response.

    I'll use the registered mail.

    Cheers

  5. Apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum.

Not having used the Thailand Post EMS service before, can anyone give me an approx cost of sending a normal size envelope letter (one sheet of paper inside) to England?

Cannot find the EMS LETTER (not parcel) rates on the 'Thailand Post' website.

    Cheers

  6. When I attended ProLanguage from June 2013 to June 2014 for 12 months Thai language study, I studied once a week, every Saturday from 1300 hrs to 16.20 hrs. I have just checked their website schedule, and they are still offering this once a week class.

Of course this could change but I would certainly contact them to enquire as to their current schedule.

    Enjoy.

  7. In 2014 alone I have entered Thailand with 30 day visa on arrival more than 20 times, I speak Thai well and have never been told what the OP was told. My last entry was 6 Nov......nothing said!

Until last night my experience was identical to yours. So this has left me somewhat stunned. Was your most recent entry through Don Muang?

    No, I entered through Swampy

I had no problems when I entered on the 25th October through Swampy!

There is no such thing as a 30 day visa on arrival. Obviously you don't understand what type of stamp you have been given over the last 20 times.

    Enjoy

  8. You'll find that the visa run departing OnNut is now priced at B2,300 due to increase in the Cambodian visa fee.

The visa service that used to depart Ekkamai at 09.30hrs is no longer in operation.

My previous 90 day visa run was a one day trip to KL with AirAsia. Total cost B2,420 which included booked seats and only hand luggage.

March and June next year have booked AA to Chiang Rai (local bus to Mae Sae) for B980 round trip in a day.

    Enjoy.

    • Thanks 1
  9. As ubonjoe quite rightly stated, book your 90 day visa runs in advance to reduce the costs

As from today, AA are offering reduced air fares from Bangkok to Chiang Rai (local bus to Mae Sai) for B980 round trip (hand luggage only), plus B200 seat allocation.

If I remember, round bus trip from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai approx B60 together with B500 Myanmar visa (if still the same price) and of course you have round trip taxi from CR airport to city, let's say B300. I know it's close to the city. Total cost let's say B2,040.

If you intend to stay one or more nights just add on say B500 for one night's accommodation. I know that there are decent hotels near CR market for this price.

Booking period from today until next Sunday. I have already booked trips in March and June 15.

    Enjoy.

  10. As I reside in Rangsit, I decided to experience a 90 day visa run by air rather than action a visa run by land from say Sukhumvit

Last Thursday travelled same day round trip to KL. Departed 10.00hrs and returned 16.25hrs.

Bkk to KL round trip 2,220 (only hand luggage)

    Bus round trip 24

    Total cost 2,244

Departed house 08.30hrs (on-line check in) and returned home at 18.30hrs. Total travelling time 10 hrs.

I understand that one of the visa run companies is now charging B2,300 due to an increase in Cambodian visa.

Would I recommend it? Yes, if living this side of Bangkok but obviously depends on whether you are able to secure a cheap flight like I did albeit not always the case.

Advantages: Approx four hrs flying time in comfort and able to wander freely and explore the many different shops situated in KL airport.

Disadvantages: A very long walk to KL AA departure gate.

  11. Hathair, thanks for a very thorough outline of the necessary documents at Savannakhet.

Con you or anyone else tell me where to find the "Khor Ror 2" form one can use in lieu

of an original marriage certificate. I am going there on Monday, with copies and translations

of my marriage certificate (U.S.) but no original. Thanks

Obtained from the Amphur where you were married.

If married within the last few yrs and assuming your marriage entry registration was on their online database, you would be able to obtain the KR2 from any amphur in Thailand.

You definitely don't need the original as long as you have in your possession a KR2 recently dated say the last 30 days.

    Cost B20.

    Enjoy your trip.

B300 a day? If you enjoy Thai food, B100 a day at most.
