  1. So how are you planning on watching it? Looking for some ideas of free stream or paid for.

I know GCN+ and I think Eurosport have an App/monthly subscription. No adverts I'm guessing with these two.

TvMucho subscription for all UK free channels. Adverts on CH4.

    Any free live streams recommendations?

    Any USA links?

    How will you be watching?

I'm not going to get into petty back and forth Rick.

Number 1) That guy is going on about standing and he used to love it. Fine. Didn't we all, at every club.

    2) He doesn't go anymore because of family commitments. That happens to people of every club. I have many United mates who can't go anymore due to family and being skint etc. That has nothing to do with preferring the football of yester year, it just means he used to go and loved it but now he doesn't.

Every single family member and friend of mine who still have season tickets from yonder years and today much prefer the City of today and are happy to keep the olden days exactly where they are, in the history books.

That's the end of this discussion for me in the Bolton thread

    Spot on blue!

He's on a wind up. I stop replying when he spouts that tripe

I have him down as a very bored young man living in Nakhon Nowhere, and this is his way to communicate with the outside world. Sad.

    Enough for me also.

I am simply asking the question.

I take your point, that we all like a bit of football nostalgia. But very few clubs were transformed as much of yours within a short space of time. That's why I'm thinking some City fans may just feel a bit detattched from the current regime, despite the success? And that's why they yearn for the old days.

You can tell me I am wrong. It's just a hunch....

    You think too much grasshopper.

Last time for you young man. There's nothing wrong with the Soul of my club. Happy now youve dragged be back in to this forum.

Not only did I ask @mrbojanglesa valid question, but it is an interesting one.

Why do some City fans prefer an era in which they were bad (laughably bad), to one in which they have won loads of trophies?

Could it be the 'soul' factor? There has to be some reason?

    The floor is yours.

Where are you getting that from (in bold). I've explained both the good and the bad of that season. Some fans say they prefer Maine Road over the Etihad, personal choice but no way for me. I think it's just nostalgia for the days when Mars bars were bigger, the Football pink was printed outside the club shop right after the game, the 'joy' of visiting Moss Side. Think you get the idea.

What's with this soul thing and you? And being a Red, how could you possibly know about the Soul of my club?

Complaining about the cost of fruit or veg???!!!! How old (and skint) do you think I am?

I hope I don't start complaining about the price of groceries until I'm at least double the age I am now.

You were banging on about the cost of green beans or papaya or brooms or something. What was it?

Great article. I guess that was before the days of N95 masks.

What is that big chimney where all the black smoke is coming from?

Stuart Street power station (around where the National cycling centre is in Mcr). Guess you're not old enough to remember when all houses had coal fires, steam trains, etc.

Bet you miss your League 1 and 2 days don't you. It's funny, I think many City fans look back with such fondness on the 'Shaun Goater era' and say that was their favourite time.

Shaun is greatly loved at City. Not the greatest ever forward but he knew where the back of the goal was and did his best for us year after year (top scorer for four consecutive seasons - out of 5 i think). He's now part of City's match day onscreen team and he's a blast. Great character.

Over the years?!!! ... I've not been on here that long have I? I need to get a life clearly.

    I don't live on Samui!!!!

2016 apparently, doesn't time fly when....

Sorry, I thought I remember you complaining about the cost of fruit or veg on Samui plus I'm sure your liccle pic was a beach in Samui for many years. Guess it was all in a bad dream.

I think "favourite time" is stretching it a bit but yeah, I have fond memories. The Gillingham game at Wembley in the play off final was a bladdy rollercoaster of emotions. Last time I ever went to the old Wembley

    Well said.

It wasn't great but there was a novelty value to being the biggest fish in the pond by far and visiting new grounds which was fun (according to my brothers). I was home from here over that Christmas/ NY period and I remember the misery of listening on the radio to us losing away at York then sneaking an away win  at Wrexham on Boxing Day, but a few days later i watched a dire 1st half home performance which we ended up winning vs Stoke and that was the kick start we needed. Mentioned it a few times on here, that 'Blue Moon: Down Among The Dead Men With Manchester City (Mainstream Sport) by Mark Hodkinson' is a cracking book about that season and the best book on football I've read (hope to get his other football books some day which i think are about Rochdale and Barnsley).

Do you think you look back fondly because the club had more of a 'soul' then?

Over the years you keep banging on about City having less 'soul' now than before. City are like most clubs, maybe all clubs, particularly yours, in that times have moved on from the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, etc, and so the club changes. Less soul though,  give it a rest or post about something you know something about. I'm convinced you are very bored and continually try to fish for City fans reactions. Remember, Liverpool are your derby, your big rivals, go try winding them up if you're bored (I learnt from one of your posts the other day you work, until then Id always thought you just 'hung out' in Samui).

  12. ^I'm with you on using paper, note books, etc., as easy and convenient, the only reservations I have are:

    1. My writing is pretty ugly (not neat).

    2. I'm not sure how to apply any order to the words I note down. Until now I'd seperate a notebook by x number of pages per English letter in an alphabet order and list thai words down but using the english translation so the thai word for glass goes in the G. But today I was watching a video on Thai words for football phrases/words and thought would it be better to note words down by category (I.e. football, kitchen stuff, car words, etc.).

    3. Sometimes I just can't be bothered to write down the English word & the Thai word in Thai script.

It sounds like you don't worry about any order, just note the word down in the order you meet it (in both english and thai scripts?) and review pages of words at a time. Have I got that right?

I have sort of done as you suggest over the years. I learnt a lot of words using English translations and  signs for rising etc. I learnt gaw gai by rote and the verbs and could read a bit and understand the tone rules. Then I virtually gave up for 2 years.  I am now revisiting it mainly with YouTube. I have been impressed by Stu Ray Jay for a while. I am now following his suggestion of just learning the 28 or so  most important gaw gai characters in groups according to their class. He has a system of mapping the tongue as it moves around the mouth and opening and closing the throat. For example the middle (or normal class) are said with your throat closed or constricted. I also learnt tones by his system .It sounds like I am doing an ad for him but am just stealing his info from YouTube.

I'm impressed by SRJ, watched lots of his stuff.

I printed off his 'Phonetic Map of the Human Mouth' chart which I often refer to. I memorised the consonants by class lines by line. I found his chart very simplistic and helpful.

I made my own table of tones as others have done. Took me an afternoon to memorise,  and then I spent time practicing using it on words to work out each words tone.

I found this little 'game' of choosing the class of each consonant fun and very useful.

Once I learnt the script and the tones enough to read basic stuff I was appalled at how I'd been wrongly pronouncing names or things for years. Check out this list of provinces, almost all wrongly transliterated meaning all of us non-Thai pronounce them wrongly - some are way out.

It's definitely worth the effort of learning Thai script and tones, and leave the transliteration nonsense behind.

  14. I've used note books, sheets of paper (new one for each week) and other methods to note down new words I learn but I've never found any way satisfactory. Do you use this method? How does it work best for you?

Very recently I heard of Anki cards for the first time. Looks a good idea. Watched a few YouTube videos on how to use. Do you recommend this method of acquiring and retaining new words? How do you use it (i.e. can you offer a very basic guide to how someone should use Anki).

I watch lots of Thai videos and read basic Thai script but at the moment I'm not noting down new words as I want to find a way I will use and stick with going forward, using pen n paper or computer or phone or any other way.

How do you record new vocabulary? Pros and cons of that method.

    Cheers.

  15. Not 100% related to this subject, but many of us have experienced the situation where we think we say something perfectly in Thai and the Thai person just doesn't understand us.

This is the lovely Som from YouTube channels 'English fit and firm' (for Thais learning English) and 'My Thai language school' (for non-Thais learning Thai). She plays around here to show what happens when a Thai sa-peaks inglit with a Thai accent to a natural English speaker - he really struggles at times. It's cute and funny. I can only assume the British guy hadn't been in Thailand long as i understood everything she says perfectly. Som speaks perfect english.

Using google translate of the text to her video:
"In this video, Som chats with Chris. (A young Englishman who came to Thailand for the first time Of course, I'm not familiar with the Thai accent before) It's an experiment to see Chris' reaction.
    1. Overall, Chris listened to a Thai accent. can talk in a story
    2. When Chris listens to Som, he doesn't know anything. not because of the Thai accent But it's because sometimes Som pronounces words incorrectly, such as smile and fast.
    3. Som says broken grammar. Chris also listened to Som about it. Catch the beginning of the end - guessed correctly
In conclusion, the grammar is not perfect. It's not a communication problem this time.
    4. Most people have good manners at level 1. We say something wrong. He will try to guess. Instead of blaming or insulting us, let's talk English, keep practicing and you'll be fluent.
** Don't let your accent and grammatical accuracy block your confidence.
** This video is made for people who are practicing English. More confident in communication
** This video is not intended to mock Thai accent. or the use of broken grammar in English in any way"

Had a look on Wikipedia about Robert Mak and Vladimir Weiss. They were both in the side that beat Chelsea to win the 2008 FA Youth Cup. Also in the team were Ben Mee, Kieren Trippier, Daniel Sturridge (another Bolton loanee) and Andrew Tutte who is currently in the Bolton squad as a DM.

This is just prior to the Abu Dhabi buyout.

You forgot Boyata. Sturridge and Veiss were the stars. Ben Mee was the captain. Nedum Onuhua has a decent podcast on Spotify etc heard him interviewing Mee and Sturridge in separate shows (the very recent show with The Goat has been the best to date, brilliant funny character).

  17. MrBJ seems you have psisat which is a tv provider used mainly upcountry (i think). If you can't get it on the TV (it will be on there somewhere as NBT is a free channel, then you could download the free Truevisions app called TrueID and watch on that.

If you type 'psi tv thailand english' in to google you should see a link to a downloadable english manual
