  1. I hadn't - for reasons you state probably. I only react to the weirdos on here who are so arch-conservative. Why are there so many, BTW? Do they all live in Thailand or are many just trolling from their parent's basements in Ohio?
  2. I've been here around the same length of time. Shortly after arriving, I recall the GBP at a high of 77 to the baht and USD was at least 45. The price of food has skyrocketed like you say. Imported foods at a supermarket tell a tale too. I remember a bottle of HP sauce on sale at around 99 baht 10 years ago - now it's more than double that. Coffee prices have risen by at least 20% since new year. So if the THB is so strong compared to the USD, wouldn't these imported products be cheaper to bring in to Thailand?
  3. Around 31.72 at mid-market rate according to xe.com. A Thai economy in the dumps, little enthusiasm in the money market over new 'government' and even US inflation report doesn't seem to move the THB needle.
  4. Sure. Like how? It's the usual fill-your-boots-while-you-can show. Thai economy? Results? Does anyone really think that's the goal (or even part of the game)?
  5. Yeah. This was all predicted wasn't it. Remember Trump said there would 'be some pain' - so here it comes. He still might get his rate cut though. With new hiring falling off a cliff over the last few months, there is an argument to lower interest rates. Even so, that doesn't mean investment or SMEs will pick up as a result. It's just one indicator of here and now.
  6. Not sure I suggested any of that. Just wonder how easy or hard it would be to stick within 45k.
  7. That's what I was thinking.. just try another branch. I have SCB and got both statement and letter from a branch that was not my own. I did have to insist a bit, but they did it.
  8. And it will pass on to their own Nepo Kids. Really, he's a Nepo Kid too - just an older one.
  9. Agree no one should rely on the condo's wifi. The 1,000 baht is probably a privately installed Internet WiFi and router. But it seems a bit high - think I pay around 650/mo. But I don't have any extras - no English TV channels etc. Condo comes with all the Thai TV channels. No real need for the western channels - I just check the news on their websites occasionally.
  10. Agree. But it probably was an annoyance to many tourists - and hence many restaurants and bars sold booze anyway during that period in tourist zones - they just paid tea money to avoid getting busted or shut down. I think the intitial restrictions of 2-5 were to thwart all day drinking by Thais, who'd then get in their pickups or motorcycles and drive home dangrously drunk and be obnoxious upon arrival. But, yes it's also stupid on another level. Because the Thai guys and others would just buy enough cheap beer or rice whiskey before 2 pm to get them through the dry spell. I know some who made their own rice whiskey. The UK had a similar afternoon law banning booze sales. Started from WW1 (to get the workers out of the pub and back to making munitions in the afternoon). But it stuck around into the early 1990s I think, before finally being repealed.
  11. It might not cover outpatient, or in a very limited way.
  12. Pretty sure Thai Immigration and TAT will groan after reading this. 'Just what we don't want or need - more of his kind.' Seriously though, while it's not impossible to live on that amount each month, it's a pretty frugal existence. No girlfriend? No wife? Just sitting in his room or on the beach road eating khaow niow (sticky rice) and moo daeng (barbecued pork skewers) every day? I guess he can entertain himself daily with his WiFi/Internet. Does he walk everywhere, or does the 3,000 include motocy and tuk tuks or his own bike (including phone at probably 500 baht)?
  13. Against unarmed people? A guy grabbed the gun after he shot someone. He was unarmed. If Douxx bag hadn't been shooting at people or even just pointing an assault rifle at people that wouldn't have happened. If he'd pointed it at a cop, or walked into a school with that, he'd be dead within seconds.
  14. No point arguing. To most of them, universal health care is Marxist. Canada and Europe are 'commie'. That's just one example of their thought processes. Let them fight amongst themselves - which they seem to be doing quite proficiently - and it's accelerating.
  15. Kyle Rittenhouse. Vigilante - 18 yo - military assault rifle. Shot several people. None of them armed. BLM protest https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53934109 https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/07/05/kyle-rittenhouse-american-vigilante
  16. I try to avoid the branches (no particular bank, all of them where I have accounts) mid month and the very end/beginning of a month. At that point, just lining up at one of their ATM's can take time as people ahead of me are often paying back monthly loans online or sending family upcountry some remittances. If I avoid those time periods, it's usually not a very long wait to see a teller. I'm retired - I am not in a rush and have time to choose when to go (usually). Also, I think the inter-banking system at ATMs and on the banking APPs are very good. I can't transfer between banks at an ATM in my home country.
  17. I guess. A bit like the kid who strolled past a group of unarmed black guys during a BLM protest and sprayed them with automatic gunfire? You mean that kind of unhinged coward? Seems he walked scot free. I guess we're on the same page then. I see Charlie Kirk has been flown home on Air Force Two, flags at half staff. FBI says it will seek the death penalty. I wonder what support or justice those black families got.
  18. You're a good shot. Can the average 20 year old do that? A neck is a lot smaller than 18 inches - more like 6 inches and a constantly moving target (because it's so small, the slightest movement makes a big change in target). How long do guys in the army train to be excellent snipers? Are they at 20 years of age? Probably also need active combat not just shooting range - several years I'm sure. Patel says the shooter is college age. I'm sure you can see they have no idea who the shooter is, nor how old (but maybe not very old). Patel is beginning a spin. They want everyone to believe it's a radicalized snowflake. Maybe it is. In any case, it's bad news for some, isn't it - I mean bad news when you're redicalized the 'wrong' way.
  19. Funny how they quickly they say the perp is of 'college age' HTAF would they know that. They don't even have a suspect. And the person who shot this guy - that to be honest, a guy I'd never heard of until today - fired a perfect single shot from a bolt action rifle (i.e. sniper type) that would need a pro to accomplish - but he's apparently 'college age.'
  20. Will the civil war be streamed live on CNN or only Fox?
