  1. Nonsense. Of course they would have received cabinet posts if they backed PT. It was almost childish retribution against PT, and now all working class and lower middle class Thai people will suffer from this stupidity of backing the establishment party, while remaining 'as opposition'. They may as well just go f'ing home now.
  2. He's right. And KhaSod's Pravit calls it a win for the Thai 'Deep State' - losing the public's confidence now in the People's Party as well as Pheu Thai, something he says could take civic society a decade to recover from. I agree with him too. Major political blunder by PP. This is the second or third blunder by the 'youthful progressive party'.
  3. And it's only been 8 months of this administration. I shudder to think how much worse it's going to get - on all fronts, including public health. Normally, the courts would step in to stop the unconstitutional madness - but the Supreme Court justices (most) seem willing and even hopeful to also get a chance to drive the Presidential Clown Car.
  4. Agree. But their guy is now PM, so I doubt there will be a coup - not yet. Anutin will drag his feet on the promises he made to People's Party leaders long enough to push through other things that benefit the establishment - and also reinstate his pet cannibis as a recreational drug. Then, once the clock starts to run down by late November, and the People's Party finally realize they were duped by a guy who was never going to deliver on his promises to them - no constitution referendum, no early election - the PP and PT will call a no confidence vote that will bring down Anutin's 'government' - that's when there will be a coup.
  5. Wait until you start learning Thai - and are trying to use it. Ordering water in Thai can sometimes get you a coconut.. Or say khow pad noo, instead of khow pad moo for a right laugh..
  6. Consumers have been warned for at least 20 years about the risks to brain health from Asparatme and the other artificial sweeteners. But the warnings never seem to turn into action. I've tried to avoid them as much as possible - though I do like Sweppes Manao Zero Sugar and drink maybe 1-2 per week. Basically I drink only water during the day and evening and juice and coffee only with breakfast. Not suggesting that's the best way - but I think everyone knows their main drink of the day should be water - not sodas or caffeine based drinks.
  7. No surprise, the fix has been in with the Establishment to get rid of PT for months. It really kicked off and became obvious with the carefully engineered border thing. The Thai establishment always gets what it wants. An election by December? Right..and even if there was one, and the People's Party stormed to a majority the courts or the armed henchmen would find some dubious way to put an end to it one way or another.
  8. Yes, it was closed for a couple of years to renovate. It's massive - 2,000 rooms I think - and the Goji restaurant is good. The Imperial chain is no more. I think - but could be wrong - the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park property is a Marriott franchise owned/operated by the Chang liquor barron. Unless things have changed, I recall that I couldn't get a Heineken beer anywhere there. The Rennaisance (Marriott Bonvoy chain) is also a franchise. Very nice Thai man is the owner/franchisee. Met him once at breakfast there years ago.
  9. Meatloaf too. Regarding the bargain breakfast for a bit more you can also get fried potato
  10. If those grainy photos of him heading toward a white house car are the only photos of Trump in nearly a week, then even from a distance he doesn't look very well. Then again, he is nearly 80. Mentally he seemed sharper than Biden - though completely nuts of course. But physically, there seems to be something going on right now. Something is off.
  11. Too bad about Nok Air's international routes - but I share the suspicions of others. THAI Airways has too much competition currently with cheap airlines ferrying passengers back and forth to China and India. I guess that's why THAI bailed out of of Thai SMILE too. Actually, I was under the impression THAI was also the owner, or part owner, of Nok. Maybe years back? I flew Nok a couple of times to Khon Kaen, but that was many years ago. It seemed fine.
  12. And Dutch pancakes (panekoeks). Really good.
  13. Not for breakfast, no, unless staying in a nice hotel as a tourist. In Bangkok, Took Lae Dee is pretty hard to beat with its 99 baht basic 2 eggs, ham, toast, juice and fresh (not instant) coffee.
  14. How do you figure that the taxes (tariffs) paid to the US government by US importers 'will allow wages to raise' or 'the buying power of American people will increase'? Anything imported will raise in costs. Remember, that means not just a finished product like a car or TV, or Swiss or Swedish big names drugs at a drug store, but everything imported - so the car parts, the electronics for a TV if it's being made in the US, the foreign ingredients to make up medications if they try to make them in the US - everything will increase in price. It will end up with inflation. You don't need to be an economist to see this coming. Many Americans can't see the forest for the trees. The US salaries of middle class were good inf not quite superior compared to other countries, and buying things - from food to leisure items - was relatively cheap. The reason was the cheap labor of immigrants and the cheap imports. That's all going to change. That's what you're going to notice in 2 years from now.
  15. Why is it ridiculous? There have been several widely and internationally reported cases. German, Canadian, Irish who were detained by ICE for weeks without charge or explanation - and those are just the ones that received a lot of media attention. There are probably hundreds of others like them. It's natural that people would reconsider travel to the United States right now given that - and other concerns, like a sense general xenophobia in the USA. Again that too is a fear not without some credibility in fact.
  16. I guess the point is that the stock prices might fluctuate despite the foreign visitor decline, if they are offset by an increase in US travelers. As an example, I have lots of IHG and Bonvoy points, but plan to offload them all first chance I get and then not stay (pay) at their joints anymore unless I'm stuck for a place.
  17. Good for me. Last year, Japan was a real bargain. Hope to go again this year after the summer heat goes away. Seems slightly pricier this year, but still good value compared to what it used to be like for tourists like me.
  18. A few hundred anti-PheuThai supporters gathered at Victory Monument Sunday afternoon. They appear to be Anutin and concervative supporters given this little gem burried in the Bangkok Post article.. I hope they got soaked with rain. Beyond opposing Pheu Thai’s role, Ruam Palang Phaen Din also insisted that the next government must not amend constitutional provisions relating to national unity and the constitutional monarchy. The group further demanded [among others] the rejection of a bill to extend property leases for foreigners from 30 to 99 years, https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/politics/3096253/demonstrators-denounce-pheu-thais-attempts-to-stay-in-power
  19. Is it a joint SCB account with you, or her own SCB account? The daily transfer limits "seem" to apply to transfering to bank accounts outside of SCB. If a joint account (with your name) you can transfer a lot more I think. I also sent more than 50k to my wife same day for a a couple of different things - no problem. And she DOESN'T have an SCB account, so dunno really. Still not clear.
  20. He took his party out of the coalition because the government was recriminalizing marijuana, which meant all his (and his associates) businesses would lose massively after all the capital outlay. Why do you think he wants to be PM?
  21. So, the British Parliamentary system, the model of many countries around the world, and one that Thailand copies to some degree, is fake democracy because the people don't vote separately for the Head of Government? Is that what you mean. So you think Thailand should vote like the United States? Look what happened there...
  22. Right and now there will be more of the slippery things in your wallet or pocket - hard to handle - don't fold properly
  23. He's part of the establishment. You (and some others) need to realize he will not be working for the masses/electorate. Not at all.
  24. Well, here, the party that won the election was first denied the right to govern, then banned entirely by unelected officials. The banning of parties popular with the majority is sort of Standard Operating Practice (SOP) for Thailand's corrupt establishment.
