  1. On every corner. No market big enough to sustain. Do just a few rich hi-so own most of them? Money laundering joints?
  2. No, Vietnam is definately not a nightlife kind of place - I don't think anywhere. The holiday island of phu quoc might be an exception. but I've never been there. It seems popular though. Been to Hanoi, HCMC many times and also to Da Nang and Hoi An. I didn't really like HCMC either.
  3. So I guess that includes any corporate pension funds (other than social security) sent out of the US to the recipient would also be taxed 3%?
  4. At 4:45 of the video he mentions three things that could cause the RAT to deploy, one of the three is massive hydraulic failure. To me, I can hear the jet engines - not the tiny RAT sound. Auto deployment after lift off from the runway if massive hydraulic failure - like no flaps deployed for takeoff (the 787 used the entire runway to get airborne) would make more sense to me than dual engine failure. Also, the pilots might well have set the flaps for takeoff, but didn't realize they hadn't deployed (they certainly can't see them) until off the ground. Hence the Mayday call.
  5. When Air India 747 was blown up over the Atlantic by Sikh extremists in 1985 (Toronto to London and Delhi), it took Canadian media a while to get their heads around the fact that most of the dead were Canadian Citizens. They were initially reported as Indians.
  6. Initially, his parents told media it wasn't their son. Did they ever recant that?
  7. Actually yes it does, according to the Immigration Act. As for you getting Indian citizenship, apparently you'd need to give up your current citizenship. Seems India is ok with their citizens getting another passport, but anyone wanting to become Indian has to give up their current passport. Not fair. But I don't care as I would never want it...
  8. He just wanted to keep it about the G7. Nothing wrong with that and it was not a slight to Trump.
  9. Question: Did this whole thing (Thais shooting at the Cambodians out of the blue) start 'after' the PT PM hinted that Anutin would be bumped off Interior Ministry post so PT could claim it?
  10. I could consider one of each if it happens. Might solve some future tax grumbles too.
  11. I really like Vietnam, especially central area (Da Nang). Vietnam is generally a much better bargain for most things, though not so sure about long term accommodation. You'd need to know what you're doing to go that route - but many have managed it. Better beer that's for sure, if beer is your thing. A monthly trip to Hanoi or HCMC would get you anything you can't get in Da Nang (better food and wine selection, etc., to bring back to Da Nang apartment). And while the girly stuff isn't in your face, it's certainly there if you want that. Great beaches too
  12. I think the subordinate Thai army spoxs needs to leave public statements about the changing situation to democratically elected politicians like the PM or Defense Minister - he should be briefing them, not making public statements. This whole thing smells more and more like a prefab situation by hidden hands to wrong foot - sideline the elected government.
  13. I wonder how Elon is taking this news. His sucking up to Trump, after their spectacular falling out, seems to have been met with silence. I wonder if he went to the parade.
  14. Sure, that's true, but you need to look at the bigger picture of the USA. The minimum wage is like USD 5 per hour - or 40 dollars her day. And many people earn that or just a bit more in very basic jobs. These are jobs Americans won't do - a bit like the Burmese workers in Thailand at a construction site in flip flops, getting paid less than the minimum wage here. Some Isan workers will do the jobs, most Thais won't. This is why Trump did his own flip flop - pausing deportations of migrant workers on farms, hotel clearners and dish washers. Their employers would have to shut down without them. So, yes, it's about Trump. Edit to add what should happen is regularize/legalize the migrant workers - don't chase them out of the country. But that doesn't fit with Trump's authoritarian rule.
  15. So this is another revenge attack that is such a Trump signature, init? He's furious that so few turned out to see 'his' parade and that clearly, very clearly (take-off-your-tinfoil-hat-clearly), millions took to the streets in major cities across America - aimed and armed with hatred and belittlement of 'him'. You know, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to feel kind of sorry for these ICE a-holes being forced into really difficult situations in very big cities just to satiate Trump vengeance - and for the poor National Guardsmen that are being forced to back them up.
  16. ..anyway, back on topic... The Spanish who 'don't' directly benefit from tourism are annoyed with property prices and rents that are pushed sky high by other Europeans buying 'holiday' homes and airbnb type properties. Can't blame them. Happens in many other places too, but Spain is particularlry bad for pricing locals out of the markets, given its popularity and freedom of movement for others in the EU - especially northerners.
  17. While not a sure thing, if I need to hail a taxi on the street, I always prefer a combo green and yellow car. Not always the case, but often they are owner-operators. The solid pink, solid blue and solid green, etc., are very hit and miss if traveling alone (as a farang). Usually they are fine.. but they are often 'rentals' and their drivers can be a bit more sketchy.
  18. The Vietnamese don't like Americans but tolerate them because they make up a large portion on non-Chinese/Korean visitors. The French don't like any foreigner. Too bad they're stuck with such a large (and growing) French Muslim population that doesn't like them either... I do like France though, must admit.
  19. Brits and Germans mostly, unless things have changed in recent years.
  20. And we still don't know if the gunfire was authorised by the Thai Defense Minister - or his 'subordinate' military chain of command. Has Hun Sen done a deal with Thailand's infamous hidden hands to keep winding things up to try to destabilize Thai democracy (to 'their' advantage)? I do wonder.
  21. Gotta wonder just how 'firm' a deal that Grippen Fighter announcement from Thailand really is... (with Sweden)
  22. Thanks. Will have a look. Does Bolt do food delivery too? Or just ride hailing? My wife has a Thai app called Movemi (or moveme). Hails tuktuks etc. She likes it because it's cheaper for rides not too far away.
  23. You'd think this was already the case but TIT. From a customer's perspective, the ride hailing apps are not as reliable in Thailand as other countries. For example, I've had several rides accepted by a driver, only to then realize he's not 10 minutes away as indicated, he's 30 minutes away. Oh, and of course once the driver (far away) has accepted, the customer can't cancel the ride. Same goes for food deliveries where 20 minutes can turn into an hour.
  24. Pure nonsense. Anyone who goes to a Thai supermarket every week can see prices are RISING not falling. Since the beginning of this year, at least a 10-15% rise in almost every food and drink consumable. What would cause a 'deflation' in the next quarter??
