Why does it not surprise me that the middle finger expression was started by the British?
If you read the thread carefully, you will see that it was the English soldiers (no Great britain in those days - history in Europe goes back way more than 200 years) and that it was a boast rather than the insult the US turned it into.
I believe a lot of the archers were Welsh.
I haven't heard that previously. Do you have a source, please, because I can't find any reference to confirm it.
-
OK, sounds plausible.I've read it before.
But how did pluck, supposedly morphing to <deleted> then become slang for sex?
It didn't. The single finger wai has nothing to do with the f word. Go back to the beginning of the thread and read.
The f word isn't slang. It's been part of the English language for several centuries and appears in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

Thais hate the one fingered wai and they know that it's meant as a very severe judgement on their perfect driving skills.
And it is used in England. It has a more extreme meaning than the knuckles forward two fingered salute. Two means 'f... off' and one means 'spin on that'.
-
It's useful in Thailand as an alternative wai, allowing you to keep one hand on the wheel or handlebars.

I've seen safes for sale on the upper floor of MBK, where the furniture shops are.
Sliding doors and windows are very difficult to make secure. Best to put security screens with padlocks behind them.

My PM button isn't working. Any suggestions as to a solution, please?

... mayonnaise developed in the UK
... And perfected by the Japanese (like Kobe beef and and world-renowned scotch.) Have you tried Kewpie Mayonnaise, especially the more-expensive Japanese style? This former Hellmanns fan suggests you try it. Seems the Japanese can get everything right except nuclear power. 2nd choice cause you can't get it here - Vegannaise, developed by vegans in the USA. Now I'm hungry for a Kewpie sandwich, (sandwich - also developed in the UK.)
If you like Hellmanns then Best brand European style (not the gooey yellow Thai version) is pretty close and, someone told me, even the same thing.

Hienz Salad Creme, I'm 62 and American and have never seen this product in the USA. I am a big salad eater so I should have seen it if it were on the shelfs.
In America it's probably called precondimentation!
-
Never in my life have I ever heard of "salad cream". Must be called something else in the US. To the OP's request, I buy either Remia or Kraft.
A Heinz product so, presumably, American.

Jack244, the OP has been going through a painful period of emotions, fear and change. He seems to be winning the battle and I hope things continue on the up for him. It takes guts to write about such experiences on a public forum and I admire that.
It's gratifying to read the empathic, supportive and helpful posts on this thread. It's difficult for any of us who have not suffered as he has to imagine the nightmare that he has lived but a good number of posters have done their best.
I have great respect for him. Perhaps those who don't or who are short on empathy and kind heartedness would take their snide and cynical remarks elsewhere and cease their attempts to wreck a thread that may be helpful to others as well as the OP.

Good for you, buddy.
Unlike others who swear by their wedded bliss, yours refuses to accept the expensive gifts and such and that, IMHO, is the Holy Grail.
On the other hand, one or two posters genuinely believe that buying the wife a house and a car - the equivalent of declaring their love for her from the rooftops - will somehow bestow longevity on their union.
"My generosity shows how much I love her and, therefore, she'll never leave me"
More crap.
Oops, I'm sorry . . .
Did you employ a variation of this strategy with your wife ?
Trolling again? Get your own life.

I was really sad to read your story and how things went badly wrong with your relationship and even more so your battle with Big C. On the other hand, I hope many others on this forum will take a leaf out of your book. First Big C can be beaten and with medical advances, this is becoming more common - the very best of luck to achieve total remission. Secondly, relationships can go pear shaped in any Country, and of course when there is a big difference in culture and language, it can be even more so. The fact your ex resorted to the bar is sad, but sad for you. On the other hand, I have gotten to know some bar girls, who are great fun to be with, but I always worried that they could not get a decent job and were doing a lot of harm to their health with the amount of alcohol they drink. I run a small house letting business and we need housekeeping and offered some of the bar girls a job - they all laughed like drains and told me they can earn two and three times the amount they can earn as housekeepers - I was offering 10,000 per month, plus food, plus accommodation. Just to strike a little bit of balance, I am married to a lovely Thai Lady, who was part owner of her own Tour Company. She is respectful, loving and considerate and works to contribute to the Family Income. She has also got a lovely Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister, who will do anything to help each other, whose selflessness sometimes puts me to shame. We have just celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary and in response to me asking her out for an expensive meal, she said "can I cook a meal for the most important person in my life and sit at home with you and a nice bottle of wine?". I am sure there are many more like me out there and I hope you join our club soon.

Any man that really wants to find a woman that will love him only for who is, needs to start dating women his own age.
Crap.

Hydroponics is worth considering.
My wife is experimenting with various vegetable crops with increasing success,
Her bamboo is now cropping well. It needs water in the dry season. Udon Province has a variety that will crop all the year round.
Green beans should do well but use organic fertiliser. I'm told that produces a better tasting crop.
Tomatoes are worth considering too.
Get advice from your local farm office rather than only the locals.
If there is no local market and you have a surplus, set up a stall by your temple wall one morning and see what happens.

Hey thanks. As fir dayghter, well pointed out, i have engaged a local lawyer who is charged with arranging some welfare arangement.
Upon discovety, i adked if daughter coukd come eith me. She agreed instantly. She slready has previously given her elder son up.
I now await the saga of thai paperwork etc. i visted my daughter last week and her school. Alls well.
Bargirl hasnt been home for 4 months.
The essence of my post is, no matter what you do, give or feel, there are tjose who will shake you down.
An appaling situation, waste of affection, time and love.
Just wanted to share...
Just sail a steady ship, virtually all of is know someone that has battled cancer. It takes a long time to recover physically, and even longer for many people emotionally.
Getting involved in a custody battle could knock you back a bit. Do whatever it takes to keep an even keel.
Years ago when I was going through a tumultuous time my Dad told me this.......in connection with my divorce and officialdom......
" Nobody cares, your lawyer isn't lying awake at night worrying about you, the court officials couldn't care less, the judge even less so. To the bank manager your only a number and an automatically generated letter, to your Doctor your only a guy he's sees once in a blue moon. The only person lying awake and worrying is you. The sooner realize that the better ".
The sooner we all realize that the better I say.
On the other hand, fighting for his daughter could be the very best therapy.

I finally got the cable connection fitted so that I can use my iPod Touch with the Alpine. But how to control the thing?
Te iPod screen shows that an accessory is connected but I can't get from that screen to control the music. The Alpine touch screen performs some functions but doesn't show what's playing. The Mitsu dealer hasn't a clue and the handbook tells me nothing at all. For now, I have to select a playlist and start it playing before connecting the iPod to the Alpine.
Any advice on how to solve these problems would be very welcome, please.

I'm sorry for what you have gone through and wish you the best in your new life. You seem to have adopted the right attitude. Use your failed relationship as a learning curve but don't let it cause your new one to be riddled with mistrust and suspicion.

I use Bangkok Bank and rarely have a problem.
On occasion, I have used SCB for settling invoices with their customers and find them to be a pain in the neck. On a bad day, they look for any excuse to avoid even a simple transaction. Once, they asked me to take cash from the ATM to use in processing a payment rather than do it more cheaply for me through the teller's computer terminal. The manager was involved in the transaction and relented when I asked him whether or not SCB was a real bank.

BUPA direct. no need for broker.
Still think it is the best provider. Not the cheapest, just no hassle no pay upfront and no claim back hassles.
Daft advice.
A broker will offer you more choice than a company or agent and you pay no more!

OP, get a copy of this book and ignore the BS here:
http://www.paiboonpublishing.com/details.php?prodId=52
Some lesser titles will be converted on request to chanoot now or, in some areas, within the next few years. It's worth researching this at the Land Office and Tessaban in the areas that interest you.

Psoriasis treatment - advice request for a friend
in Health and Medicine
Posted
If the lesions are allowed to remain dry they won't heal easily and may get worse. It's worth trying a base cream to keep them greasy.
Another angle is this. Outbreaks may be triggered by hives (urticaria). The onset of hives stimulates the body's immune system and that sets off psoriasis. The remedy for the sufferer is to buy a course of antihistamine pills at a pharmacy as soon as the first sign of hives appears. Psoriasis sufferers often don't recognise the appearance of hives, thinking that it's and outbreak of Psoriasis. The darned medical profession fails to see this, concentrating on medication to attack the result rather than the cause.
Swimming in salt water helps to scour the skin. Just getting rid of the scales often gives the skin a chance to heal.
There are quacks here who will pump you full of rubbish with reusable needles. They are a must to avoid.
I wish your friend luck. The dreaded P can be very demoralising.
