"Miss Thailand" always seems to be models that look European, either because they actually are half Causcasian or because they have plastic surgery to give them a more European nose, eyelids etc.

It's weird. You think they'd be a bit more secure in the way they look especially as many of the more natural looking Thai women are very beautiful. I guess they consider that natural look to be too plain...

Yes and as we all know there is this underlying insidious pysche in general society that the whiter you are the more prettier you are which is of course total BS.

No PCR test, so how did they get on a flight in the first instance and then enter without Thailand Pass..???

    Doesn't add up.

Yep. These numbers are for November and IIRC (the requriements change too rapidly for my ageing brain) it was a test on day 1 and day 5 so its highly likely that a lot of them passed the first test, went bar hopping or whatever and tested positive on day 5.

The problem is that the whole Thai society is corrupt through and through, because a vast majority of the people think it’s okay. It’s a way of life, and has been for a very long time. Consecutive polls over decades have shown time and time again that some 60 - 70% of Thai people have absolutely no problem with corruption, as long as they can benefit from it. That mindset needs to change before anything else can change.

Anyone who tries to change it or dig too deep into others affairs may not live long....

When we see a U-turn comes up, we slow down a little bit try to read the traffic from any possible horisontal angle,  be ready and wait for it.

My experience Thai drivers do not slow down before they have to, and often to late if they believe they have the right on their side.

Anyway, the traffic from behind is always responsible for the traffic in front. Golden rule in Thailand

My rule is to indicate very early when entering a u-turn and reduce speed slowly...

For sure but its the responsibility of the driver coming onto the motorway to give way and only proceed when its safe. Some of these veichles are so old that they don't have the ability to pick up speed quickly and shouldnt be on the road full stop

    Very sad.

But nothing to do with the size of the bike. They only go as fast as you twist the throttle. They're not wild horses with a mind of their own.

Looks like the Vios was doing the old "Pull onto the highway and get straight into the outside lane while still doing 10kph to make a U turn" trick. Probably while simultaneously perfecting the "No need to look if I do it slow" routine.

I've lost count the amount of times I've had to brake hard in the outer lane for this very reason and without being misogynistic its nearly always women.

    Nah

The market boys kill them that morning or the day before if it was not sold.

also they are chopped up as you wish. right in front of you.

not like Big-c . Lotus, and so on.

Sure, the local markets are defintely not Halal but supermarket product most probably is. As far as I know, all CP & Betagro facilities are Halal.

Disgraceful, whether halal or not, selling chicken and other meat products to Saudi Arabia, whilst there is a massive shortage here in Thailand.

Message to Mr Prayut.................Take care of your own people first!

Are there food shortages? I'm not aware of any. There's defintely price inflation, particuarly on pork but that's another story.

And it is ok if you have a family of four or 5?

I would suggest they don't come and that go's for anyone who's complaining about the new policies.

Whilst the rules are stupidly crazy and flip week to week, it's their country and we have to abide by their bureaucractic decisions. The less people who come means that someone, at some point will see sense and relax the rules and make it easier for tourists to visit though IMHO that's not very likely...

Recently retired in Sacramento, California, where we're a fairly friendly bunch. Lots of travelling and living abroad in Asia pre-Internet. Back then we always greeted other foreigners we happened across in Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. We definitely acknowledged each other's presence. It would have felt completely weird not to.

I am not making any judgement regarding good/bad or right/wrong, but I can report that the blanking you guys do of each other here feels weird AF, at least upon initial arrival in country. Especially when it's old guys blanking other old guys. I don't expect anything from the young folks lost in their smartphones, But old guys? The usual problem with old guys is that we talk to everybody and you can't shut us up.

No need to worry about me. Now that I know the unwritten rule "Don't say hello or speak to another foreigner if you don't already know them," I will comply--here in Thailand. You are safe in your bubble.

I reguarly travel to the US for business and I'm surprised at how extroverted you are (in general) compared to us Brits - We barely acknowledge strangers in our own country let alone Thailand. The unwritten rule on the London Underground is don't make eye contact with anyone ????

Bit more friendlier up north though....

In the case of Thailand, many girls are forced into the job, not particularly by anobody, but by the conditions. It’s either prostitution or poverty and living in the streets.

There may be a small element of that but IME it's prostitution or a dead-end job working in a factory/farm. Granted, not a great choice I suppose but shagging a farang for an hour at 1000 a pop means she's earning considerably more than minimum wage.
