They were probably on points bookings.

I flew First Class to Frankfurt on Thai on the A380 recently for just 90k points and about $400 in taxes. In that case it would of been hard to argue against being downgraded.

On a a side note Bill Heineke was sat next to me on the return flight.

Even in first though you still have to use the same incredibly poor choice of movies and programs on the IFE. Bed and food was good but service very poor compared to first on other airlines.

Why? You've paid enough money to the airline over the years to earn those points. I don't see why you should be downgraded.  Service on Thai is hit and miss. When it's good, it's very good; when it's bad, it's awful.

I don't think you gonna make any first class passenger happy with that kind of compensation, as you can't even buy a one way economy ticket to Zurich for that price.

Absolutely. It's not only the compensation - I fly to Thailand a few times a year in FC and one of the highlights of the trip is the flight and experiencing FC service. I'd be pissed as hell if I had to downgrade

With 1st class full, were the majority RTA travellers? .....apparently, there were Business seats available but of course, that's never going to be good enough for Thai Air pilots.
Be interesting if further details come out.

Of course it wouldn't good enough for any pilot if they need proper sleep.

If a pilot needs "proper" sleep on a plane then that's even more worrying...

    Your statement was

Let me remind you of what you wrote:

"I may be wrong but don't you need a passport to visit each others country? Not exactly open borders...or do you mean trade ?"

You were the one who established the criterion, not me. You were wrong, Indisputably and indubitably wrong. Man up and admit it.

I never claimed it was an open border. But to those millions of Americans who travel to Canada via land, and to those Canadians who travel to the USA,it isn't much of a border at all. Much much more open than most borders.

I wasn't quoting you. I was quoting Thaidream...

I also said "I MAY BE WRONG..." as in I don't really know....then you come in smashing me over the head.

I then said it's not an open border as per Thaidreams original post which it's not then I wondered if he was talking about open border as in trade.

There is a border. You need a passport to fly so there is not an open border...if you want to travel by land, you need ID, again no open border.

Anyhow, I can't be arsed ....If it makes you feel smug and superior then so be it.. I was wrong.

    Yes you are wrong.

"The Canadian government requires citizens of the United States to have a passport to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport, but not to enter Canada by land or by boat. For those travelers, in lieu of a passport, Canada requires that you carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, or a Certificate of Indian Status, as well as photo identification."

And there are some tariffs in place but they're mostly very very low. And it is abnormal to go from low tariffs to high tariffs. Especially on the specious grounds of national security. Or do you believe that Canada poses a threat to the United States?

As for American attitudes towards Canada:

Americans Like Canada Most, North Korea Leastor Americans' attitudes towards Canada:

    • 94% of Americans view Canada favorably; 6% view North Korea favorably
    • Six in 10 Americans have a positive image of Haiti
    • Countries viewed most favorably are among harshest critics of U.S. leadership

Ok So you need a passport to fly or ID to enter by land and sea.....so NOT an open border then

I don't like Tariffs and I don't like Trump even more so. I find him abhorrent BUT he has introduced a new type of politics and his message his loud and clear. America First. Whether you like it or not, he does appeal to a certain type of voter.

Trump doesn't sit down and negotiate anything.  He uses his alt right minions to draw up negotiating positions and then Trump orders which one to use.  The real problem is that Trump personally dislikes Justin and everything else flows from that.

There should never been any tariffs placed on Canada. For God's sake- the US and Canadian economies are inter-related. We have open borders.  We speak the same language .  We watch the same TV shows.  We are integral partners in the North American Defense  Organization.

If the US and Mexico can  agree on a NAFTA reboot- certainly the US and Canada can compromise.  The majority of Americans support Canadian friendship and trade and do not like the way Trump reacts to Canada.

I may be wrong but don't you need a passport to visit each others country? Not exactly open borders...or do you mean trade ?

Why shouldn't tariffs be in place. What makes Canada & US so special versus the US and any other country in the world - The UK and the US speak the same language, watch the same shows and coordinate on defense and joint exercises especially in the middle east and when if we leave the EU do you think there won't be tariffs agreed for both countries ?

"The majority of Americans support Canadian friendship and trade and do not like the way Trump reacts to Canada."

Really ? Do you have any backup on this ? I'm not disputing it but from what I can see the US is very much split down the middle...

Pigeons carry more disease than rats. Get rid of them!

Can you share your evidence ? I'm not disputing this but I don't really see any difference. Both are carriers of pathogens and pigeons are no worse than any other bird as far as I can see. The "flying rat" myth was created as an excuse to clear Trafalgar Square all those years ago.

I have no reason to doubt the HK visitor's story, why would I when it was, apparently, filmed and properly reported to the police and the police were there to intervene?

Filmed perhaps, but who is to know the contents of what was in the "bag".

I'm sorry, this sounds incredibly suspicious and even if it were true then perhaps he should treat it as a life lesson not to be a knob and carry that sort of cash around with him.

While field or specially raised pigeons are safe to eat, whereas others are not, it is always better to conduct research into matters of concern before putting fingers to a keyboard.  Pigeons are dangerous and I have known about diseases dangerous to humans that are carried by pigeons for many years from when I was a falconer.  People who feed these birds in areas which many people use do not realise the danger they put everybody in.  Pigeons in cities serve no useful function.  Please do some research before posting.

According to Medical News Today, the most common pathogens which can cause disease transmitted from pigeons to humans are:

    • E. coliThis occurs when bird droppings land in a water or food supply and are then consumed by humans. This can typically be avoided by washing food thoroughly before eating. Symptoms include nausea, fever and cramps.
    • St. Louis encephalitis. This disease is spread by mosquitoes after they feed on a bird that carries the pathogen that spreads St. Louis encephalitis. This inflammation of the nervous system is dangerous to all age groups, but can be particularly dangerous and even fatal in adults over 60 years old. Symptoms include drowsiness, headache and fever.
    • Histoplasmosis. This respiratory disease occurs as a result of a fungus growing in pigeon droppings and can be fatal.
    • Candidiasis. This disease is also a respiratory condition caused by a fungus or yeast found in droppings. The areas affected include skin, mouth, the respiratory system, intestines and the urogenital tract, particularly in women.
    • Salmonellosis. This disease is commonly called "food poisoning" and spreads via infected droppings turning into dust and contaminating food and food preparation surfaces prior to consumption.

Pigeons are also carriers of mites, fleas, and West Nile virus, all of which can cause discomfort and potentially serious health issues in humans.

    'nuf sed

Aren't most birds carriers of pathogens?
