  4. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/why-pi-next-covid-variant-132245328.html The third anniversary of the emergence of an obscure new coronavirus in the Chinese city of Wuhan is coming up fast. An outbreak that first made just a few sentences on the foreign pages, quickly burgeoned into a global pandemic that upended almost every aspect of life and still has profound repercussions. More than 16 million people are estimated to have died worldwide during the first two years, with trillions of pounds spent, economies battered and millions of jobs lost. Thankfully, for all the disruption, the past year has seen a return to normal life, for many at least, as the world desperately tries to put the pandemic behind it. (more)

Experts, led by a team from University Hospital Bonn in Germany, examined 14 studies involving almost 40,000 people from the UK, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Russia. They found that people taking statins were 15 per cent less likely to go on to develop age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Similarly, they found that people prescribed type 2 diabetes drugs - such as insulin and anti-inflammatories - also had a 22 per cent lower risk of AMD.

  11. Why are there no BA flights to Bangkok? This is because this route yields low tourist traffic and there is tight price competition from Middle East carriers. “We regularly keep our extensive global network under review and have taken the decision to extend the suspension of our Bangkok service,” BA was quoted by TTG Media as saying.26 Jul 2022

  18. boris going to COP27 but not sunak.. !! is he in or out lol https://uk.news.yahoo.com/no-10-alarm-boris-johnson-190005329.html No 10 alarm as Boris Johnson plans to attend Cop27 climate summit A row over prime minister Rishi Sunak’s refusal to attend the Cop27 climate summit took an extraordinary twist on Saturday night as the Observer was informed that his predecessor but one – Boris Johnson – is planning to attend the event. Several sources said they had been told that Johnson is intending to go to the crucial meeting of world leaders in Egypt to show his solidarity with the battle against the climate crisis. Johnson’s attendance would be potentially explosive just days after Sunak took over as prime minister and decided he did not have time to attend. Johnson’s involvement would be seen as both an implicit criticism of Sunak for not going and an attempt to maintain and bolster his profile just a week after he abandoned his own attempts at a dramatic comeback to No 10. Several sources close to Johnson did not deny that he was set to go. Toby Helm and Fiona Harvey Sat, 29 October 2022 at 8:00 pm
