Line account without phone number
tomazbodner replied to Mavideol's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Yes, they will. Purchases will also be there but you'll need to re-download stickers and themes, but won't have to pay for them again. Only thing that won't get restored will be your chat history. That you can backup to Google account and then restore after registering new number and logging in. -
Line account without phone number
tomazbodner replied to Mavideol's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
If someone else registers same number, your Line will show that it's used on another phone and all contacts, chats and purchases will be gone. You should register email address and password for that number, then backup chats (if you need that), and on phone with new number, load Line, register to new number and then login with email register as existing account, then restore chats, and reload purchases. Contacts will be reloaded once you register with your email. You can load Line to your PC or Mac or tablet without a SIM and login either with phone's camera scanning QR code shown on computer screen, or by registered username and password. You cannot have Line active without a registered phone number, though. -
Are Expat salaries likely to rise in Thailand?

Revenue department just made a note to check figures on your next por ngor dor 91 submission ???? -
To enter her into new tabien baan she would need to be removed from the previous one. Original tabien baan (old one) is needed to enter the line under her record of her new address and date of change. On your tabien baan it would then state her previous address, and date of entering her into your blue book. The owner of the previous residence isn't needed, however the book is. I don't know if there is a way around that.

Cashless Thai society not on the cards anytime soon, says study
tomazbodner replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Was just reading that there's a revolt in some African country now that mobile banking has basically completely replaced cash, and government introduced a tax on all mobile transactions. I guess that's coming, once enough people use it. -
Cashless Thai society not on the cards anytime soon, says study
tomazbodner replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just moved here a good year ago. At that time, there were 4 ATMs around my condo. Now there's none. At that time, most restaurants, food stalls, fruit vendors, etc. accepted cash only. Now all of them have QR code on, some still accept cash, many don't. ATMs are still at shopping mall not too far away, but the ones at 7-11s that used to be plenty are disappearing. Condo only accepted bank transfers or credit card payments, no cash, from the start (parking included). I remember a long line of cars and a stand-off on leaving condo by someone trying to pay cash but security guard wouldn't accept it. Eventually someone from a car behind paid that few baht. I'm in Bang Sue. -
Cashless Thai society not on the cards anytime soon, says study

In my area, most of ATMs have disappeared, and those that are left are inside a shopping mall that's closed at night. On the other hand, all condo invoices come with QR code only, and "Cash not accepted" overprint. Parking for visitors that exceed free allowance, needs to be paid by scanning a QR code with banking app, without any other options. Shops around the place have QR codes and while some still accept cash, many don't. I've asked a street vendor why he only accepted QR payments and his answer was that he has no cash on him so he can't be robbed. So in a way, while some prefer going cashless out of convenience, many have no choice. I didn't for the life of me expect that despite wallet full of cash, I could be completely broke by just letting my phone battery run flat, or losing phone signal... -
It is the difference in consequences. Sacked is fired from the force and that's written down as person being fired. Let go is basically same, but in document it's written that the person has left on his/her own accord. Like forcing someone to quit rather than firing them. That's at least what came up in conversation with one of the lawyers a few years back... hopefully I remembered it correctly.

As long as some "concerned citizen" doesn't report you to cops. Everything is not a problem until it is. There are digital nomad options that don't require a work permit if I remember correctly? There was also a smart visa that allows work? Don't recall details but there were posters about it at the One stop center at Chamchuri Square....

Windows 10/11 key is linked to computer's hardware ID, which is generated out of serial numbers of parts in it (like CPU, etc.). Unless you change hardware bits, once you try to activate, it will just send the hardware ID and if it is already registered, it'll just apply "digital license". No need to worry if you have genuine license applied.

Shopee another seller trick to be aware of.
tomazbodner replied to Thailand's topic in General Topics
True, but not always, Sir. Some large Thai shops use their own delivery. Especially for bulk items. -
We have one of these machines downstairs in lobby... very popular. Has variety of hot and cold drinks that take a couple of minutes to produce, and there's always people waiting for it to do its magic. I've seen it opened up when they come refill and service it, and (apart from big water tanks like what you can get for water dispenser taking up a third of the space inside) the thing looks sophisticated. I haven't tried it, as there are always too many people waiting, but it certainly is a hit. I noticed Pepsi logo on it, so I thought it was from them. A Tao Bin pickup with service guy visits every day to restock and clean it up, and seems very neat.

New HDD/SSD costs very little. All your data is on it. Buy a new drive and remove old one before handing it over for repair. Then they can reinstall whatever, your data is safe with you, and you can always stick it in an external enclosure later to copy data back or just use it like that. But if you don't need any data on your drive, just use format. See this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/backup-and-storage/format-command-not-write-zeros-to-disk Simplest way to delete data is to kill partition table, then make and format the disk from a boot disk. If you need 3x overwrite, which could take a day or more, you may need some extra tools, but generally that's an overkill.

Was just going to say that many telecoms offer second SIM for data only at a very low add-on cost, if you have a reasonable post-paid package. Obviously not for prepaid. But there, more or less offers are similar, what matters most is how much signal is available from chosen telecom where you actually want to use that iPad.

Pharmacies recommended/to be avoided - Sukhumvit 10 area..
tomazbodner replied to MarkyM3's topic in Bangkok
Do yourself a favour and go to front door of Siriraj hospital. There is Petcharat Pharmacy just opposite the gate. Very near the pier. There are a few more similar pharmacies there but haven't checked them. They have anything, and their price is at least 50% lower than elsewhere in Bangkok. https://diamondpharmacy-th.com/ If you don't want to take a taxi there, you can go there with a boat (3 baht still?) from pier at the corner of Emerald Buddha temple. Pharmacies are on the left side of the road after arriving to the Thonburi side of river. There's a map on the site that above URL links to. -
If it's a hardware repair, remove your disk and get repair person to use a temporary disk to do repair. If a software repair, then it won't be possible to do with guest account and you'll have to hand over admin credentials or make another admin account. Even if you gave just guest account, boot could be done from another boot disk and data still reachable unless it's encrypted. Maybe your time to swap disk drives, and plug old drive into external enclosure?

Avoid trap of losing money to women
tomazbodner replied to Sparktrader's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
But seriously, Sir... It takes 2 to tango. People often end up in disastrous relationships because of where they look for partners, and what kind of people they are likely to find at such places. I don't think you can expect a smooth ride when finding your partner at a night club, or a bar. Now of course, there could be exceptions everywhere, but in many cases things do go wrong. Add to that different upbringing and values, different culture, different interests, and in this forum also a large age gap, and this wouldn't even go smoothly at members' original countries. Without much of a social safety net, for many, the family is the safety net. Add to that protecting the face, and it's not so far fetched to imagine someone being "forced" to show success by channeling wealth to family, to show off to the neighbours. Of course, then comes parents' greed, especially in some very remote areas, who see their children as nothing more than their slaves to be forever grateful to their parents for nothing more than giving them birth. As what some of these parents did after the birth couldn't even be a remotely plausible description of upbringing. That is, before some of them even got sold off to gangs, or just expected their monthly income from their daughters to buy stuff... to show off... I used to work in media and had a chance to join interviews of both the underprivileged girls that some members here enjoy renting, as well as their ignorant parents, and many stories were heartbreaking on one side, and making me want to strangle someone on the other side. The sad thing is that when left to "the street" to educate children, nearly never anything good comes out of it. So having an expectation of things working out from a visitor's point of view is very naive. But as said, there are always exceptions. Just far too few. Go meet girls in a park. Cinema. Gallery. Travel fair. In a restaurant or convenience store. In gym. At an animal shelter. Book store. You know, places where you might find people who are interested in "normal" things, maybe same things as you are, and you'll have a far better chance of success and avoiding problems later. -

How many people do you know? Actually I am glad that you don't know me. -
No, what I mean is that import duties cannot be very high. If we make comparison with cars or "luxury items" like some designer bags, watches, cosmetics, then you can see that the price in Thailand is several times higher than if bought in Europe. Now this item's price is priced about the same as in Europe, so it would mean it does not have any excessive duties applied. All that said, and what I think some posts with "but this is Thailand" refer to, is that this could be down to discretion of the customs officer. And like you can't find the exact category of taxation, he/she might struggle or intentionally choose one of higher brackets to charge you more. Still, this is not a luxury item so you could not be charged like 200k import duty. It could be in 30-40k range though, which would make me rethink of whether I could sell it in France with less loss than this potential duty and buy a new one here, or take this one on the plane. In case you decide to carry it, put it in backpack, and carry it in the cabin. Do not load it, as you don't want it to disappear or be thrown around, possibly arrive damaged. 2000 baht compensation for smashed up item isn't worth it.

It actually costs below 90k including VAT.

This one? https://shopee.co.th/Pioneer-รุ่น-XDJ-XZ-Professional-all-in-one-DJ-system-i.136309881.3847549652 It costs only 87900-89900 in Thailand, distributed by Mahajak, so import duties cannot be in 100s of percents...
