90 day report online question
poobear replied to poobear's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just to re check, Dr Jack does the latter "End of current permission of stay " refer to the end date of my yearly stamp in passport. The yearly extension based on retirement I get once a year. Thanks -
Can someone please tell me what date to fill in under "stay visa required" ? is this the date on my 90 day report stapled to the back of my passport or is it the date of the end off my yearly extension based on retirement. I see where on the bottom stamp of my yearly extension it mentions to keep my "stay permit" re entry permit must be made before leaving Thailand. Is stay permit somehow suppose to mean "stay Visa"? Thank You

Honda HRV HEV RS - how's the panoramic roof?
poobear replied to Niltava's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I purchased a Rs with a sunroof and hated it, most uncomfortable seats I have ever had and I am a driver by trade. Within 5 months I sold it and never been so happy to lose 3,000 dollars. The car runs, drives, accelerates, and handles perfectly. But, for me. The sunroof takes up way to much head room and the seats are so small and tight I never got a comfortable seat position even after having them modified twice by cutting down the sides and widening them. I was shifting my seating position 5 times before I even got out of the drive way. I had a 2002 Honda city before that and now have a 2017 Honda jazz with no seat complaints. Just be forewarned that some people have major problems with seat comfort in the hrv. Good Luck in whatever you decide -
Why is there so much trash on the grass verges in Hua Hin
poobear replied to ThaiPauly's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
Hua Hin has very few trash cans around unlike Pranburi with an abundance of cans all over the town. Also many areas in town are impromptu dumping sites infested with the many street dogs ripping the cans and garbage apart never to be picked up. I like living in Hua Hin for my sons school, the two malls and easy access to Pranbury parks and beaches. Town parks, public spaces, and basic public services ( garbage, road repair, ect,) in Hua Hin are sorely lacking. My advice is get used to it, or move on. It aint changing any time soon. -

Controversial sticker-covered Pai highway sign sparks fury
poobear replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
I noticed the sign the last time I rolled into town and thought it was perfect for Pai. The fact that is is slowley turing into another noisey thai bar town, not so much. Pai is well on the way to loosing most of it's quirky charm from the amount of bars now downtown. I lived right down town and ran a buisness for 5 years and know many of the locals that own homes downtown that can no longer live in their own homes or rent out resorts that hey have held for years. Pounding bass beat all night and smoke filling their homes from the bars on either side of where they sleep. Outsider's running bar businesses is driving them from their homes and killing local business. The old house on the hill in Pai -

Some extra information is there are no beneficiaries allowed on schawb international brokerage accounts so anyone inheriting from these accounts will have to go through probate. Even thai wife who is on on a joint account with me only receives %25 of that account upon my death before the rest has to go through both thai probate and a release form from any taxes due from the IRS. quite complicated. All my Ira accounts are still allowed beneficiaries. Pain to open account but Service is fantastic. No fees on atm or international money transfers.

Thanks for the additional info. That works great for me. I started my social security at 62 because I received an additional 600 dollars a month for the next five years until my son reaches his 18th birthday. That was a pleasant surprise but may suspend my benefits for a few years after his 18th birthday.

Taking you Social security early is not a one way street You can suspend your benifits after you have stared them. Suspending Your Retirement Benefit Payments (En español) If you have reached full retirement age, but are not yet age 70, you can ask us to suspend your retirement benefit payments. By doing this, you will earn delayed retirement credits for each month your benefits are suspended which will result in a higher benefit payment to you. If you qualify for benefits as a Survivor, your full retirement age may be different. Before you make a request to suspend your benefits, keep in mind that: If you apply for benefits and we have not yet made a determination that you are entitled, you may voluntarily suspend benefits for any month you have not received a payment. If you are already entitled to benefits, you may voluntarily suspend retirement benefit payments up to age 70. Your benefits will be suspended beginning the month after you make the request. We pay Social Security benefits the month after they are due. If you contact us in June and request that we suspend benefits, you will still receive your June benefit payment in July. You do not have to sign your request to suspend benefit payments. You may ask us orally or in writing. If your benefit payments are suspended, they will automatically start again the month you reach age 70. If you change your mind and want the payments to start before age 70, just tell us when you want your benefits reinstated. Voluntary suspension begins no earlier than the month after the month of the request. We may accept advance requests for voluntary suspension; however, suspension cannot begin earlier than: The month after the month of the request. Your full retirement age. Your month of entitlement to benefits (for initial claims only). If you voluntarily suspend your retirement benefit and you have others who receive benefits on your record, they will not be able to receive benefits for the same period that your benefits are suspended. However, a divorced spouse will be able to continue receiving benefits. If you voluntarily suspend your retirement benefit, any benefits you receive on someone else’s record will also be suspended. Your Medicare Part B premiums cannot be deducted from your suspended benefits. If you request voluntary suspension we will only permit benefit reinstatement the month after your request.

fillling out form W-8 BEN is quite simple but getting your bank or brokerage to turn over your funds to a non us citizen can be quite involved. I suggest you contact your estate department of your brokerage and ask them what it will take to transfer your funds to a non-spouse non us citizen upon your death. You might go another route.
