  2. Some extra information is there are no beneficiaries allowed on schawb international brokerage accounts so anyone inheriting from these accounts will have to go through probate. Even thai wife who is on on a joint account with me only receives %25 of that account upon my death before the rest has to go through both thai probate and a release form from any taxes due from the IRS. quite complicated. All my Ira accounts are still allowed beneficiaries. Pain to open account but Service is fantastic. No fees on atm or international money transfers.
  3. macbook air 29,600Baht now much cheaper than usa or canada. Excellent computerwith a long life at a bargain. https://www.studio7thailand.com/th/p/apple-macbook-air-13-m1-chip-8c-cpu7c-gpu8gb256gb-space-grey-2020-mgn63tha_z32n2v?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiArLyuBhA7EiwA-qo80DyhtTscJssBXP-zT867vdNenQk-Q2wFpYVVMCxJ5r_R_BSfOKWO3RoCV0cQAvD_BwE
  4. I had it done in Prachuap Khiri Khan government hospital. It was about $40 with excellent profession service. Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin was something like $1000, more than in U.S.A.
  5. We already have a random man fighting shark statue on the bottom of soi 94 two blocks down from market villa. This is only the top half in phot
  6. I have had both the square and round pumps installed next to the house. The constant pulse from the round tank drives me nuts so I much prefer the constant250w pressure square pump you have pictures and just make sure there are no leaks in the system. Good luck
  7. Thanks for the additional info. That works great for me. I started my social security at 62 because I received an additional 600 dollars a month for the next five years until my son reaches his 18th birthday. That was a pleasant surprise but may suspend my benefits for a few years after his 18th birthday.
  8. Taking you Social security early is not a one way street You can suspend your benifits after you have stared them. Suspending Your Retirement Benefit Payments (En español) If you have reached full retirement age, but are not yet age 70, you can ask us to suspend your retirement benefit payments. By doing this, you will earn delayed retirement credits for each month your benefits are suspended which will result in a higher benefit payment to you. If you qualify for benefits as a Survivor, your full retirement age may be different. Before you make a request to suspend your benefits, keep in mind that: If you apply for benefits and we have not yet made a determination that you are entitled, you may voluntarily suspend benefits for any month you have not received a payment. If you are already entitled to benefits, you may voluntarily suspend retirement benefit payments up to age 70. Your benefits will be suspended beginning the month after you make the request. We pay Social Security benefits the month after they are due. If you contact us in June and request that we suspend benefits, you will still receive your June benefit payment in July. You do not have to sign your request to suspend benefit payments. You may ask us orally or in writing. If your benefit payments are suspended, they will automatically start again the month you reach age 70. If you change your mind and want the payments to start before age 70, just tell us when you want your benefits reinstated. Voluntary suspension begins no earlier than the month after the month of the request. We may accept advance requests for voluntary suspension; however, suspension cannot begin earlier than: The month after the month of the request. Your full retirement age. Your month of entitlement to benefits (for initial claims only). If you voluntarily suspend your retirement benefit and you have others who receive benefits on your record, they will not be able to receive benefits for the same period that your benefits are suspended. However, a divorced spouse will be able to continue receiving benefits. If you voluntarily suspend your retirement benefit, any benefits you receive on someone else’s record will also be suspended. Your Medicare Part B premiums cannot be deducted from your suspended benefits. If you request voluntary suspension we will only permit benefit reinstatement the month after your request.
  9. fillling out form W-8 BEN is quite simple but getting your bank or brokerage to turn over your funds to a non us citizen can be quite involved. I suggest you contact your estate department of your brokerage and ask them what it will take to transfer your funds to a non-spouse non us citizen upon your death. You might go another route.
  10. This also happened to me the last time we tried to send money from my Bank of Ayudhya bake to the U.S.A. from Thailand. I always get a letter from the Thai bank showing my incoming wire transfers for the sole purpose of having proof when we wanted to send the money out. Iwas also furious that somehow I am not able to repatriate my own funds to my home country. After some fussing and complaining they called it a misunderstanding and proceeded to wire transfer about $40,000 dollars back to the states no problem. The whole situation is so incredibly stupid. Bring 800,000 baht into Thailand, deposit in our bank at no interest and then we are going to fight you when you want to send it home. I would keep after the bank and work your way up the food chain and find someone who can help you. Good Luck
  11. I empathize and sympathize with your problem with the noise inside your apartment. I too can't stand the noise in Thailand coming from very cheaply constructed houses and even cheaper windows. I have tried varios noise reduction methods and some have worked and some have not. My last house was so noisy that even after spending about 40000 baht on doubling up my windows and insulation the ceiling I just sold cheap and ran. Life is too short and the noise makes me too angry. When looking for last place I purchased noise was a major consideration . Its almost perfect in my Mooban except the few inconsiderate owners that have barking dogs and the idiots who think it is smart to feed the wild soi dogs outside our gate. Of course your block wall and insulation will help a bit but the only thing I wave really found to work the best is white noise. Try soft music or search for white noise rain on your computer. Good luck
  12. Hello In order to insulate above the ceiling I took out all the surface lights and installed Sylvania 12W Warm BRAVO CURVE LED RD SURface lights. because I did not want the air to escape through the holes in the ceiling or electrical connections up in the insulation. I also like the light and color temp so much I used these lights in rooms that I did not even insulate. They a quite expensive at about 130 each on Lazada but I have never had one go out and much prefer the light. Warm and bright but not yellow.
  13. My two cents on a 2018 HRv Rs top model was I purchase with 18000k. The pick up and drive was great for me but the seats were so uncomfortable that even after get the leather seats modified twice and every kind of seat pad I could find I constantly was moving around for a comfortable position. The sides of the deat are way too high and to tight for me. In the end I sold the car within 4 months at a $5000 loss and was never so happy to se that car and my money go. The other two issues wwas I'm 6 feet tall the sunroof that I would never even use took way too much head room for me and the touch sreen radio controls suck. Before that I had a 2002 Honda city and now a 2017 Jazz and both while the seats are not the best, the are much bigger and more comfortable.
  14. Ikea will deliver and install a kitchen. If you want to go this route you can go online on ikra thailand, design your kitchen or at least review their website for the measurements needed, and then make an appointment at he store for one on their designer to refine you design and place the order. Installation is%15 of total cost. I just installed an Ikea kitchen myself and was able to plan and purchase with out going to the store. The quality of the cabinets and drawers has been excellent. There is also a new show room of Kitzcho cabinets on Phetcasam Rd around soi 58 that also has very high quality cabinet and does installation. My own experience with their cabinets and installation has been excellent also.
  15. I have tiled over glossy floor tiles with the Gold Crocodile Cement made for that purpose. I did not use any sort of primer and never had one problem or issues.
  16. My family and I (thai wife and son) spend MUCH more than we ever expected when I moved here. After living off Thai street food for about seven years I realized that eating only Thai food food and the cleanliness of the restaurants we used to frequent is not for me, especially now that I can afford better. Now my wife cooks almost every night and we treat ourselves to a varied diet. I thought I could live with only one scooter but now have a 6 year old Honda jazz and 650 royal enfield motorcycle along with the scooter. We have also spent much more on housing than i ever expected. The flip side of all this is Even though we have spent an extra 75 thousand dollars to upgrade the area we live in, double the quality of our house, purchase more vehicles and get my son in a better school, and it has been well worth it.
  17. I use razor blades and elbow grease.
  18. I find that I ride my brakes on my interceptor when I am in any kind of slow city traffic but never have experienced any problems with the besides replacing the rear brake shoes. You have reminded me though that it is time to flush the brakes and get new fluid. I noticed that this is called for every two years and since I service the bike myself and don't want to do this it looks like a good time to go to the dealer. I have a bit over 40,000 kilometers on my 2020 and am as happy with the bike as the day I purchased it. Happy riding
  19. Now that I have finished my Ikea kitchen I would like to offer a few last comments. The Bodbyn white series and the final look and qualities of the doors, drawers cabinet faces. ect is excellent and as good as anything else I see here in Hua Hin. Second and the real reason I am writing the is to suggest going with drawers on the base cabinets whenever possible. The drawers work perfect and hold a lot more than the cabinets ever did. Also the bamboo inserts and felt matts for the drawers are well wort the money. Good Luck with your project
  20. I would have to agree that rock-wool/ double layer 5/8 sheetrock was the best solution I could find on the web. You will have to get rid of the downlight also to eliminate the holes and make for solid insulation. for Also the comment about music in the background was also one of the solutions we found that worked by transferring my focus from the outside noise to the music/lyrics. good luck
  21. As a side note, please consider purchasing a bunch of these counter supports fron ikea to level out the top of you counters if you are using granite or quartz. I don't think ikea puts them in your design but they are inexpensive and made for the ikea system. https://www.ikea.com/th/th/p/fixa-worktop-support-fitting-galvanised-90274627/ fixa-worktop-support-fitting-galvanised__0734546_pe739497_s5.jpg.webp
  22. I just went through this process in a house in Hua Hin and eliminated the recessed lights and insulated the whole ceiling with 6" of stay cool insulation. From months of research (madness) I learned you have to get rid of any holes letting in the noise, ie recessed lights, and replace with surface mounts https://www.lazada.co.th/products/sylvania-bravo-curve-led-rd-sur-12-lyfcargtak1w036-i2924562120-s10722915771.html?from_gmc=1&exlaz=d_1:mm_150050845_51350205_2010350205::12:19668221003!!!!!c!!10722915771!520995963&gclid=CjwKCAjwpuajBhBpEiwA_ZtfhbkAms7a_wTgGl46hnl0_R3yJXq9esmHzZ2T223YF51dV8VjyT6y-BoCw0AQAvD_BwE I used these syvania lights and am very happy with them. Next you could insulate above the ceiling and then the most important would be to put the thickest sheet rock you can find. The less holes and more density between you and the noise the better. There is no guarantee that insulation will work and would suggest lookin on the net for the best remedy for your situation. One thing for sure is you will need to get rid of the recessed light both to close up the holes and to make full insulation possible. I wish you good luck. The noise in my place was driving me mad and eventually I just sold and moved
  23. Hello i was just wondering if you decided to install the Ikea cabinets yourself, had Ikea do it, or went elsewhere. I just finished an Ikea installation myself and went slow and did everything correctly. The job came out perfect but quite a bit honestly a lot of small things ended up being a lot of work. I tend to do jobs to the best of my ability and am quit meticulous so if some one doesn't enjoy hard work an a bit of hassle I still would suggest going with the Ikea installers. What was your experience?
  24. Home pro has a very good selection of sun blocking curtains with the level of blocking written on the packages. Global house also has curtains with a good selection of patterns and lower price, but not quite the same quality material and sun-blocking as home pro. For kitchens, furniture, appliences ect. try Boonthavorn Huahin on Petkesam road. They probably have the best selection in Hua Hin. You can also have an Ikea Kitchen installed at a reasonable price.
