    Hello from Koh Samui
some fabulous news thanks to all you wonderful people. This morning George had not only the bandages removed, but also the stitches out. He has gone for another CT scan for a follow up and we are now awaiting a fit to fly certificate. George and Natalie are so very grateful, as am I and my whole family. The road continues upon our return when George attends hospital and they assess for treatment. We are yet unsure when we will fly home, but we are coming home soon England!!
We are forever in your gratitude guys for all the support, love, good wishes and donations
    Go Team George!!

I was always told if you are a tourist you must have either a return ticket or a ticket for onward travel out of Thailand .

Has Thailand changed this rule .

Also as the sign is written in English and he appears to be at an airport. The sign is aimed at English speaking Tourists not local people

It would be interesting to know about this allegation that Thais stole ALL his money.  Does he mean it was physically stolen from him or was he a victim of a scam or his own stupidity here ? But more likely he got involved with a Bar girl ( and her pimp / husband )

If it was stolen and reported to the police then I am sure his embassy would assist him getting home, but if he was scammed he is on his own

I know with the British Embassy they will not give you money or even a loan but they will contact someone in your own country to help and arrange for them to send money to you.

You say his sign is in English so he's not trying to inform/ask help from local people(Thai) .  Maybe he is asking help from afluent Thai  who have money and speak/read English. I have written many times that several of the Malls in Bangkok (Central Lad Prao--The Mall Ngam Wong Wan, ect ) have movie theatres playing movies only in English , no Thai subtitles so all the Thai going there speak/read English.

If your from one of the countries that can come in on a 30 day Visa exempt you are required to show onward travel or return ticket within 30 days. If you come in on a Tourist Visa (60 days) or other visa issued by a Thai Consulate or Embassy  onward or return ticket is not required.

Half Farang, half Thai, not likely dark skin.

Oh really, I met and talked with a girl at Royal Garden or Central Festival selling condo's a month ago whose mother was Thai and father American Black. Have seen a few over the years and actually went out with one when I first came over who was working Walking Street. All spoke English very well.

How can you even get into Thailand without a return fare?

For your information  (and Thian's ) if you have a tourist visa from a Thai Consulate or Embassy you do not have to show tickets exiting the country. If you come in on a visa exempt you have to show a ticket leaving the country within 30 days or extend the visa exempt at immigration. Some airlines will not let you board the plane without a valid visa.

Last time i was quoted health insurance without repatriation, over a year it worked out at  500 baht a day. so where is the "cheap" insurance ???

Depends on age , company and deductible. I am USA citizen have Gov Insurance that is uncancelable as long as I pay (rate is low) but I have done Google search for friends stating "cheap health insurance in Thailand" and since they use  cookies to see what you look at have been inundated with ads for health/life insurance  with them even  calling me .

As far as hospital costs I had an angioplasty after a heart attack at Vibahvadi ( private ) Hospital (emergency surgery) that cost me $8,000 USD, I called a major hospital in Boston, MA USA  that I have gone to since I was 5 yo and asked how much would the operation cost there, quoted me $47,000 USD. Could have had it done at Pattaya/Bangkok Hospital for $4,500 USD but I was in Bangkok when I had the attack.

Most Travel Insurance policies that I have examined only cover for a maximum of 31 days in any one trip.

Starting on pages 2-3 of this post you will see a number of persons who said they went home every 6--12 months to take out a new travel insurance policy that covered from anywhere from 6 ----12 months outside the country.  Even having  a Gold or Platinum MC gives you 3-(Gold)  6 --( Platinum)  months of free travel coverage. Cheap standard EU travel insurance only covers short term but you can buy longer term policy. Same as health insurance , my policy (USA) covers me wherever I travel or live in the world.

Most travel insurance I’ve seen would not be usable past a few months of living in a place. Article says he’s been here 4 years. So I doubt travel insurance would have helped him. He needed normal health insurance from a reputable company in Thailand - as does anyone who wants to be taken care of.

Well then you have not seen those that do cover long term abroad. Many replies just in this post talk of expats having Travel Insurance that covers for 6---12 months outside their home country. The insured simply return  to their home country every 6---12 months and take out a new policy.

Tell that to my first wife

Sorry about your First Wife but the facts are less than 5%  of those that contract it die. Maybe before they had  new ways to treat (there is no cure) and she had a severe form of  Guillain-barre-syndrome. Some sites say 1% die from it others 3---5%   Sucks if you're in that small percentage but the bottom line is most recover. Sorry for your loss.

It is a life destroying thing, it is a viral infection of the central nervous system, most people contracting it do not survive, some who survive are disabled for life, very few people who contract it return to normal.

Your information is incorrect Colin. Most people recover from it but in severe cases it will kill 3--5 % of its victims. The ability to speak and swallow may become affected in severe cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome. ... Even in the best of settings, 3%–5% of Guillain-Barré syndrome patients die from complications, which can include paralysis of the muscles that control breathing, blood infection, lung clots, or cardiac arrest.Oct 31, 2016

The recovery period for Guillain-Barré can be long, but most people recover fully.

I don't see how these pictures prove anyone being hiso here? My ex who lived in Canada used to dress like this when in Thailand and yes, some of her friends were wealthy, but some of them just had regular office jobs.

I was ugly 15 years older, not with a lot of money and dated a woman like this. Maybe a difference being that we met in Canada instead of Thailand where her family didn't have a say about who she dated.

Personally I think she was great and a great squirter too, but she was never as generous as my much poorer wife. And an import point to note is that just because her English  was much better, she was still dumb as a post. No business acumen and she relied for me on everything. Wouldn't move her finger. I highly doubt she would get hired at the same international company my wife works for even with her qualifications and a degree from Canada.

Anyway, if anyone wants to meet one of these girls, they are mostly concentrated on Charoen Krung road.

  12. I guess they won't do what we did in Boston,Mass USA   Many years ago we had literally thousands of pigeons in our 2 downtown parks the Boston Common and Public Garden  tourists used to feed them Spanish peanuts you could buy from vendors.  The pigeons were very tame and would take the food from your hands, perch on your shoulder. They became a health hazard and were pooing all over the buildings. After cats, hawks and traps failed to get rid of the problem the city poisoned them with tainted Spanish peanuts.

That Oct 2013 entry stamp is sure a red flag especially now that the exit is stamp of Sept 2018 is splatted right next and on it. Amazing you could fly on an expired passport as well.

Not amazing a US citizen can return to the US with an expired passport no problem. Also had a friend who married a Thai girl , her daughter returned years later on an expired Thai passport.

I'm all for standing up for principles / a price that had previously been agreed on, but maybe there is a good reason the price went up.  Ask them why the price has gone up and you might get something plausible.  At the end of the day, when you're only talking such a small amount of money, I would just pay it.  Life is too short to haggle hard over small amounts of money, in my opinion.

Face it there are a lot of Cheap Charlies on TV , I don't deprive myself of something I want for the sake of a few baht. I might check another store for lower price but if not in the mood I'll just get it.

I just noticed the source of that picture. The thought of some Looney Tunes rubbing one out over that picture made me vomit in the back of my throat

You can't be sure  even with a good close look.  Seen quite a few  Lady Boys in Bkk and Pattaya that you can't tell are guys unless you hear them speak or do a more intimate check. They usually have bigger feet/hands.

Many of the over 60s that I know (self included) are the same, though I do not know any who could regularly do 8 x 620 ml in one session. And most of us are more over 60 than yourself. I think mainly an age thing.

The mention of blood tests interests me, I have an annual blood test and both the liver and kidney results fall well within the parameters. I have seen online replies saying that even double the recommended max is not really a problem. Anyone disagree.?

And my "safe" readings, do they automatically mean there is no problem at all?

Had a friend was drinking 10 beers a day after work. Retired early, and then started drinking non stop, 18 plus beers a day . Died Aug 6th 2018 from possible alcohol poisoning and heart attack, only 56 years old.  Amy Winehouse and other celebrities have died from it and Ben Affleck is in rehab. If you can't control it stop.

I've been riding for 4 decades. I've always owned Japanese bikes because I thought they were better. I used to live in Calgary, Canada, which had a large HD store. Every summer HD would have a open drive weekend. All you had to do was show up with a bike license, helmet and leather jacket of some sort and you could sign up and take any HD model for a long drive - follow the leader style. It was about a 20 minute drive through a neighbourhood onto a highway and back around through the 'hood to the dealership. You could do this as many times as you wanted. Just keep signing your name beside a different model.

I rode every model they had. Nice bikes but none were worth $20,000 + more than my Kawasaki Vulcan.
