To answer the other part of your question, the cost of transferring money from the UK to Thailand online, the Halifax charges £9.50 if you do the transaction online, or £19.50 over the phone or in a branch, whilst the Nationwide charges £20 for either method.
So am I understanding this correctly? If I transfer £500 from a Nationwide account into my Kasikorn account, Nationwide will charge me £20?

Halifax vs Nationwide. Which is best for a UK citizen living in Thailand (Transferring money online, ATM etc)
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. It's not big money. At the moment I draw from Barclays at an ATM in Thailand and the put money straight into Kasikorn, which is not a good system. I am looking to transfer straight into Kasicorn to avoid using the ATM

Hi, I have a basic Kasikorn Bank ATM account with passbook. Can I transfer money into this account from my Barclays UK account? If so, how long does it take and would I be better using The Halifax?

Thanks for the reply. So I assume therefore I must leave Thailand before the visa extension expires and re-enter with the second entry? Can this be by land or should I fly somewhere? Sorry if this seems rather trivial, but I've spent hours reading through the forum and still cannot figure out what to do for the best.

Hi, please bear with me. All these new rules are giving me a headache.
I'm over 60 but not quite a pensioner yet. I'm having a relationship with a Thai lady. I've been to Thailand 2 times so far to ensure we are OK together in real before getting married.
Timetable is like this:
My first visit was in February, 30 days visa exemption at airport.
Back to UK for 2 months.
Next visit in May, 60 day tourist visa from Thai embassy London.
Now I'm back in the UK for 2 months.
Now we want at least 6 months together before committing to marriage. What is the best way to do this with a view to relocating to Thailand. As I understand it, a retirement visa needs me to put a big lump into a Thai bank which I cannot do.
Thanks

I don't know about expats, but Barclays has a great app for android that doesn't require a UK sim.
It has all of the functionally of the pin sentry card reader.Have you tried this with a Thai sim inside? Barclays clearly state you must have a UK Sim and the phone cannot be rooted.

Hi, What is the best UK bank for ex pats? Is there any UK bank with a mobile app that works without a UK sim inside the phone?

Hi, I'm going to Thailand from UK for 2 months so I should apply for a Tourist visa, however, I have plan to visit Burma which I guess will finish my Tourist visa? If I don't have a visa and rely on exemptions, will the airline (etihad) let me on the plane and will I be given a 30 day exemption at Phuket?

Thanks for all the replies. Judging by the comments here, it would appear more people are using Nationwide than Halifax. I'll take that as a vote of support for Nationwide
