  1. They can do nothing to you, unless you default in payment. Then they become liable and will be pursued through legal channels by the finance company to recover the money.

NEVER BE A GUARANTOR! I was a guarantor for my best friend who I knew would keep up the payments, which he did. Until 2 years into the contract when he had a heart attack at a very young age and died. The finance company TANACHART (READ BAS#$%DS FROM HELL) told me if I continue the payments everything would be fine. Which I did in addition to paying his family a generous amount for the car. So I sold my car made all the payments and it took me 4 years after that to get the blue book put in my name. Tanachart would only sign the car over on a court order which had to come from the UK before it was accepted in Thailand and then tons of c#$p on top. They have this clause in their contract. So never be a guarantor you will have 100% responsibility and zero rights to the property.

  2. get the pipe from Thailand, there are lots of models around.

Also, you can go for least expensive ones. I see pipes for kawa 650s as low as 6000 thb and they work.

Best i have heard for kawa 650s was yoshimura, akrapovic and leo vince. Still K Speed or other locas pipes also work. You can get a shop do a custom one for you too for 7- 8 k thb.

But, if you want to go for full system, it will be more hassle with O2 and therefore lambda sensors and you have to get a dynojet and maybe an air filter to use the full system in full effect without straining your engine your engine by running it lean.

II2 is right you are teetering on the slippery slope to modding. Doesn't matter what bike you have there's always a mod for it. Changing the exhaust is for increased power, if you want it sound tuned you can remove some packing from the inside until you get the right tone. But getting a full system from one of the top companies with a hi-flo filter dyno run, re-map etc. will probably give you another 10BHP+ smoother acceleration and throttle response etc. Then you'll change, tires, wheels, sprockets, chains the whole bloody bike! Enter at your own risk!

  3. Thanks for the reply.

Is that theory on one day and practical on another?

Get to the test center before 08.00am you don't need photos just some copies of your passport and visa and originals of a residency permit and health cert. You will be bored to death watching their 4-5 hr movie on the first day and you will get the chance to show off your braking reactions using a car foot brake. What this has to do with a M/C I don't know? You will receive no instruction on how to ride a M/C. You will not be informed of how many people can safely ride a M/C at a time or attaching a shop to the side of your M/C. You get to show off your riding skills going around their course. Everyone passes even people who fall off on the course or are blatantly color blind or who have the braking reactions of an oil tanker. Have fun and take a book or some mind numbing substance.

  4. This would be one of the greatest inventions of mankind, on par with the wheel, condoms and the internet. I bet a lot of Thai bashers will crawl back in bed in shame!

The technology works and works very well. However it is not widely used due to the huge EMF's created. So if anyone thinks power lines can be re-placed they are wrong unless everyone is happy to live in an EMF bath. Just stand under high voltage electricity lines and the EMF is easy to read. Never heard of people getting cancer living under HV lines? Why implement a 110v system? Thailand runs on 220/230v. Oh I forgot 7/11 is in on the act. However most phones and laptops will take either.

  5. Is motorcycle theft common in bkk?? Is it easy to find parking along Sukhumvit?

If parking is a concern the guards will always look after a bike like a Monster for you. Just drop them 20-40 Baht and They'll guard it with their life together with your lid and gloves. They'll usually try to find a special place for you to park. Away from the plebs who like to sit on it and masturbate while you're working or shopping.

  6. Been getting 70Km/litre from E20 in my Wave 110i.

That's actually higher than the brochure claims.

    (185Km on 90bht of E20 @36.4bht/l, driving at 50Km/hr = 74Km/l)

As Shurup quite rightly pointed out this post is about crashing their bikes on the first day. Please start a fuel economy post. Only time I've ever driven 50kph is on the sidewalk. If you only fill up like the Thais, 50 Baht at a time, you will get even more economy. Less weight.

It's my thread, and I'll digress if I want to!

I was just very concerned you were overspending on gas.

  8. Generally speaking Benzine will NOT give you better performance over Gasohol, but your vehicle MUST be Gasohol compatible.

Incorrect. Benzine gives always better performances at the same Air Fule Ratio, both in terms of power, consuption, and thermal efficiency, because it's latent heat is higher.

    http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/farmmgt/05010.html

ethanol can produce more power but need a specific map in ECU.

Benzine will give more power at the same AFR but at it's optimum AFR Gasohol will give more power.Just adding more Benzine will not create more power, it will create less if the AFR is not correct. However the ideal AFR for Gasohol is richer meaning you will burn more fuel but have more power. This is why if your car is multi fuel capable you always feel more power with 100% Benzine, because usually it has been mapped to favour Benzine. Downside Benzine costs more. Some drag racers are configured to work on 100% Ethanol where power is more important than economy. Anyway here's a link to that post:

  9. A 35 year old bike is going to need more than just giving the carbs a once over. Even if the engine doesn't need a rebuild all the brake/clutch/fuel lines and probably brakes, not just pads will need to be changed. If safety is any concern to you. That's not mentioning tires wiring etc. Unless it is a labour of love and you want to ride around like a cop. Pass it on to some other mug and buy something new.

  10. ^^^ You're grossly misinformed, there're vehicles that run on 85-100% ethanol fuel and they've been used for decades. (Brazil)

It is rubber that can't withstand contact with alcohol, replace rubber with cynthetic material (urethane) and the problem you're talking about disappears.

Whether manufacturers care once you're out of warranty is irrelevant but I'd believe most of them would care.

Yes rubber and alcohol not a good combination. I listed a post titled Fuel Facts here's the main post:

I hope to clarify better the differences in fuel as addressed by another topic Benzine vs Ethanol which has gone off on a tangent.

All fuels have a Research Octane Number (RON) and Motor Octane Number (MON). In Thailand only the RON is stated which can be 8-10 points above the MON rating which is a more accurate measurement of the combustibility and inherent energy of the fuel contained in the octane level. This is why you notice differences in gasohol and benzine from different oil companies even though they all have the same stated RON number i.e. 91/95. Therefore 91 gasohol could actually have a true octane level of only 81. Another factor to be taken into consideration is altitude so if you are living at sea level it is best to use fuel with a higher octane level because this will give you more power by being able to burn efficiently due to the extra oxygen, in the air at sea level, and not running the engine lean. Lean running makes the engine hotter and reduces it's life. The reverse is true if you are living in Chiang Mai, which is 1200m or 4000ft above sea level. Your engine will run rich reducing your BHP by up to 30% due to the diminished oxygen, although the cooler air may compensate slightly. So unless your vehicle has had your Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) retuned for higher altitude you would be better running 91 RON to maintain the stock AFR.

To complicate matters further there is an Anti-Knock Index (AKI) number which is posted in some countries which is the median between the RON and MON numbers It may also be called the Pump Octane Number (PON).

Generally speaking Benzine will NOT give you better performance over Gasohol, but your vehicle MUST be Gasohol compatible. You cannot use E20 in a regular vehicle which is Gasohol compatible ONLY E10. However Benzine is a must for European and American bikes. Most Japanese big bikes are correctly configured to run on Gasohol but always check your handbook. Most handbooks are online.

I suspect some Benzine gets tampered with in Thailand and other countries too for that matter. That's why I always get the best performance out of my bike when I fill up at a Caltex outside the Rayong refinery. They pay jack in delivery charges so messing with the Benzine isn't a priority.

Methane (Natural Gas) has a 120 RON 120MON and 120 AKI. Impressive. Propane (Cooking Gas) has a 112 RON and 97 MON again pretty impressive. Obviously NGV cars are not being tuned for performance but economy.

  11. 99% sure they washed it with a high pressure spray and water got under your main neutral/earth from the battery. Just take off the mainearth where it is connected to the engine casing clean it up with some alcohol and wire wool and put it back. Should be fine. Never wash your bike with a high pressure spray, garden hose pressure is best.

The battery just starts the engine. Once started, it is not used. The battery is not causing the problem. More than likely that water somehow got in your carb. Hopefully it will dry out, or the water will burn out. You should be okay after that, or after your carb is re-built. Very cheap to have that done. On a side note, it could be that the wire going to the spark plug is just hanging on, causing a miss. Very easy to check also. By now you have probably spent less than 200 baht, and it is running fine.

Yes forgot most of these scooters have carbs. If you're buying new get fuel injection.

  13. Very odd choice either a Vespa or a Hypermotard. I used to own a Vespa 300 GTS Supersport and sold it when I bought a Ducati Monster. The Vespa is great around town with it being auto and 300cc. The storage space was handy. It only drinks 95 octane petrol but you have the same issue with the Ducati. If you can afford it buy both. If I had to choose I would question how much city riding or long trips I was doing. If you do get a Vespa you''ll never have any problem selling it as Thais are crazy about them, not cheap though at 325,000 THB.

Good advice. If you intend to ride solo and get out of town now and then 100% Monster. If it's your primary form of transport and you want to take passengers take the Vespa. The Monster is a great bike and the amount of mods you can do are almost endless. But get the 796 not the 795. The 795 is in no way comparable to the 796. The Thai version is called the Ducati Monster Corse. It nips in and out of traffic like a banshee and will stop on a dime. ABS recommended.

  14. I am totally amazed that the posters on here can be so supportive and complimentary on this idiot's activities! This is exactly the situation of Thai mo'cycle riders that we continuously complain of! Never ridden a bike before? No tax, insurance, road tax? Did he know which side of the road to ride on? Doubt it! Sorry, but no sympathy from here - and certainly no encouragement to "go out and be more careful!"

All the legal stuff is provided when you buy a new bike in Thailand.

You only get a hand written receipt at the time, but the other stuff all arrives in the next 6 months.

I drive on the same side of the road as everyone else (except for the Chinese tourists that don't seem bothered).

"All the legal stuff"? Like a driving licence? Doubt it! Do you possess your own country's driving licence?

Strangely enough, I do have a British DL that shows I am entitled to drive a m/c.

I did drive a 3-wheeler when I was young, but never took a m/c test.

Asked the guys at the Honda shop about a Thai m/c license, but none of them had one, and they seemed to think driving without one was OK.

You are not allowed to drive on a British Licence in Thailand. You need an International DL or a Thai M/C Licence. Long time since I was in the UK but I believe the M/C part of your licence only allows you to drive a 50cc or less moped. Doing the Thai test will get you to know Thailand better. Even if you don't learn anything, at least you will be legal. Insurance will not be honoured if there is any problem with your licence. Kill someone expect to pay a few 100k Baht.

  15. Please allow me to put this Intuition nonsense to rest. First the Oxford English Dictionary explanation: The ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. Secondly the origin of the word: Late Middle English (denoting spiritual insight or immediate spiritual communication): from late Latin intuitio(n-), from Latin intueri 'consider'.

What you are getting Intuition confused with is Experience, no one including Rossi has a spiritual experience with his bike. Even though it may look that way sometimes. I am sure he could ride his bike while standing on his head and juggling a beach ball with his feet. That is not Intuition it is experience coupled with a tremendous ability to understand the physics required. That's why Rossi and his mates have no need for ABS, Traction control etc. F1 and Moto GP teams have physicists calculating the maximum speed attainable through corners on different circuits with different tires etc. I'm also a golfer but pro-golfers have expert caddies to map the greens for them and they know at what time of the day, according to the Sun what type of angle the grass is going to be angled at. This minute attention to detail makes the difference between winners and losers.

Experienced riders have a feel for their bike. They know how far they can push it, but put them on a different bike and a large part of that "Intuition" is lost. You see it time and time again when pro-riders change teams.

So countersteering, accelerating through corners, weight shifting, backing in, wheelies etc. is taught but is improved upon with Experience. Eienstien did disprove some of Newton's Laws but not all of them!

  16. Agree with you guys criticizing the OP for his lack of responsibility. However well all know that passing a Thai driving test isn't going to teach you to drive a car or ride a bike properly. Thais seem to ride bikes as soon as they can walk. Which I highly disapprove of. Hopefully the OP will get proper instruction either hands on or through the internet (Tons of You Tube vids) and become an accomplished rider. Instead of another drunk falung on a scooter. I am concerned however that he didn't seem shaken at all by his accident.

  17. i want a chip in my brain to be connected all the time and to see everything in my eyeballs without any extra screenlaugh.png  not kidding. it is a better idea than carrying a smartphone.

Hope we can see those days as well.

by the way, the company i was talking about was 'Nuviz'

I am not sure if they are  fully finished yet but you can install it to your favorite brand of helmet.

it is better for me and i might buy it once it is done. It can also take videos/photos etc.

I am not afraid of new technology as technology is our best helper if used properly. So, i am open for nice ideas like these HUD displays for bikes.

    Check the link:

    http://www.ridenuviz.com/#intro

Available summer 2014. No rear view but you could rip out your instrument panel and install a rear view screen connected to a camera. In a couple of years hopefully it will be built into every helmet.
