  1. I always ask the guard to let me park near him and I give him 40-50 Baht to look after my bike, lid etc. I won't park with the plebs because many times I have returned to my bike only to see a bunch of plebs drooling over it and sitting on it. Sold my sports car for the same reason. Plebs sitting on it. Now I have VIP parking in all Centrals for my car so I don't have to deal with the lower echelons of society.

Some of these comments I have read sound like they come from guys who like to park their pick up trucks next to Lamborghinis.

  2. Shipping in parts will not help if you want to get it registered. It is extremely difficult to import used bikes. The only loophole which may be open to you is if the bike was in your wife's name and there may be a possibility that she can import it as a vehicle used while living overseas. However the process will be very complicated and drawn out. There are other members who will be able to better advise you and maybe you can get it imported but the time and cost involved probably won't be worth it. Ask your wife to check the Thai Customs website or email them about importing a vehicle used overseas. Forms will need to be submitted before you import it.

In this case the OP clearly stated that he understands it would be impossible to register the bike, so the usual sermon does not apply.

However, also shipping in parts would be very expensive and risky, and Thai customs would certainly smell the coffee and demand an hefty ransom at some point. Shipping the bike out would not be a problem.

I don't think YOU read the post. Most likely does not mean impossible and how would shipping be expensive if he is bringing it in a container? Thai citizens are allowed to bring a vehicle into Thailand from overseas if it was used by them and then they have to keep it in their name for three years before selling it. However you can drive a bike without a green book provided you can show a customs receipt. If you can't you risk having the bike confiscated by the Police, so shipping in parts and then assembling a bike in Thailand is a no no.

  3. Same issue at Siam Centre (where I park when going to Paragon). I brought my CBR150 (carb'ed) once and parked in the "Big bike" area, the attendant came running out of the booth and said I couldn't park there so I pointed to the plenty of PCX's and asked what the minimum CC requirement was? She couldn't answer so I said if they weren't going to allow me to park I would have to speak to the manager. This was quickly followed by the attendant returning to her booth.

I have completely no issue if the declaration is clear (e.g. at MBK there is a zone which specifically designates 400cc or larger), but if they use an ambiguous word like "big" and I see a PCX there, I'll be parking there as well for sure!

So bc of you and those pcxs there I can't park my bike at Siam Paragon big bike area as small bikes make it full.

Definitely a carbed cbr150 is not a big bike. New fi cbr150 maybe, pcx definitely no too. those pcxs might belong to workers there so they feel like they have the right to park which they don't.

But you don't have any right or reason to park there. They arrange these parking spots for big bikes as it is hard to pass through scooter labyrinth but you can with carbed cbr150.

I hope this declaration is clear for you.

Ah another advise, you might not find clear declarations you need in Thailand. If not use your common sense.

We could argue our different sides to death but the fact remains, if they aren't clear (use either the general rule of engine cc size or your idea of minimum width/length - albeit this rule would be silly to implement) your so called "big bike" area will continue to have carb'ed CBRs and PCXs clogging it up.

Just to be clear, I'm all in favor of a "big bike" area but if management can't be bothered to enforce it uniformly then I couldn't care less.

This is Thailand an a lot of things are ambiguous. I assume you are not mentally retarded, you know what a big bike is. If you want to park with the big boys buy a ticket.

  4. Out of curiousity, does anyone know if there are shops where wrecked/totaled bikes go in Bangkok?

I'm thinking it would be good to look for used parts; maybe swap out a headlight or try different mufflers.

Every Songkran I bet 100+ bikes get trashed in Bangkok alone.

Trashed bikes never die they just the green book swapped. Plenty of stolen parts around though. Just ask a M/C taxi driver.

  6. Is there another post or link giving all the details of this car scheme?

    Here.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/498011-first-car-scheme-gets-the-green-light-by-thai-cabinet/

    Thanks Skywalker.

"The tax rebate is expected to cost [the government] about Bt150 billion, assuming that 500,000 people will buy first cars," Boonsong said. Carmakers and financial institutions will meet with Excise Department officials today to discuss details of the package, he said.

"The first-car tax rebate scheme was one of the Pheu Thai Party's populist policies aimed at luring voters in the recent election." The Nation

So they were warned, where's the shortfall going to come from? Rice farmers paying taxes?

  7. One poster added that there is a need for a new grass roots political party or politician to step up and guide this country in a new direction. Lovely sentiments.....would work nicely on a Hallmark card. In reality there is too much money at stake here in Thai politics. In countries like US, Canada, UK there are the same checks and balances that Thailand supposedly has adapted but in the Western Nations it is just hidden better.

With the financial stakes so high it will be virtually impossible for the political system to make any sweeping changes. Reform? Not possible. Not in our lifetime anyway.

The PTP has the support of nearly a third of the voting public from the Northeast of Thailand to the Northern regions (Chiang Mai). Regardless of how badly they may be portrayed in the news they will most certainly survive the bad press and retain their political presence. Much like Texas will never be a Democrat state.

So what is the answer? In my opinion....time. It will take time for the people of Thailand to educate themselves in the area of self governance and political reform. Todays young voter is more aware of the issues and is less influenced by family pressures and political payoffs. The younger (unable to vote) population will be the real next big change. Many will have grown up in a more financially stable household, better exposure to social networks (twitter, facebook) and have less reliance on the government for support. It will however in my opinion take another two generations to weed out the likes of todays politicians.

For the sake of my young family I do hope this change happens quicker (20 years or so)than later. But it will happen.

The only way for real political reform is to stop this BS of voting at your registered address. Most of Isan works in Bangkok or Pattaya. They should vote there. At the moment people from other provinces are getting the best of both worlds. Maybe the Tabian Baan should be replaced with a Residency Card. If a person wants to rent then their residency must be moved to that address. Personally I wouldn't let anyone who didn't own land or a house vote, but that would be too logical and all the bleeding hearts would say it's un-democratic. However I don't see anything democratic about some clown having the same vote as a business owner.

  8. The revolution of the puppet?

"Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Tuesday that she has not discussed with her family and elder brother Thaksin Shinawatra on taking a break from politics"

Isnt it clear enough already that the majority of people arent behind her now? There is no IF, only when, and the sooner the better.

Right ! 100% agree, but I wonder why the yellows are so afraid of elections... because they have no "when" or "If" maybe...

Most of the red sympathizers here on TV just keep saying elections need to be held, as that's the only democratic way for Thailand.

They don't understand that voting here in Issan is bought (Corrupt). I'm not sure about the rest of Thailand, but I have seen it personally here. Paying voters 500 baht to vote for Pheu Thai is the rule, not the exception.

It is a must that voting corruption be eliminated before the next election takes place. Yingluck, Thaksin, and Pheu Thai know this, and don't want the system changed. The current voting situation is not democratic. All Suthep and the PDRC just want to see voting corruption checked and the voter playing field level for all candidates. That, my friend is true democracy.

Are you saying all every vote for PT in the last election was paid for? 500 baht each? How much did that cost?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Have you only been in Thailand 2 weeks? It USED to be 500 Baht now it can be 1000 Baht plus free cows, triple the price for rice and 100,000 Baht off your first car. This 500/1000 Baht "Incentive" was always paid by both sides and was an accepted part of Thai Politics. Every Politician has to "Buy" his seat. The SHTF when Taksin and Yingluck started using Public Funds to purchase power. This is what the real problem is. Answer to your question = a lot.

  9. Yeah I like Chiang Mai but you have to get up on the mountain with the Hilltribes. We used to stay with them. You wake up in the morning and sometimes there is frost on the ground and you need a fire in the cool season. Chiang Mai food is very different, did you try Khao Soy?

I was eating only western food, other than breakfast which was organic.

a female ran the family owned shop and they had wheatgrass, carrot beets, etc., It is where I started eating Thai food as I had the girl with me

Sure the produce in Chiang Mai is the best in Thailand. It's so fresh. Most of it is organic or free range. Signing off now thanks for the very enjoyable chat. I expect you'll be back soon. Keep in touch.

  10. Well, you obviously do want to argue with me. I used google to find the figures, so telling me google isn't always right is an odd comment. The figures are compiled by the government, not google.

I'd also challenge your assertion that 'most Thai men have 2-3 wives, that's another ridiculous statement. Lastly, if your figure was correct, there would have to be a huge number of dead people registered as alive (where they live is irrelevant - we aren't doing a city by city breakdown). Let's say the population of Thailand is 67 million. 72% of the population is aged between 15-64, which is just over 42 million people. I believe the official statistics, i.e. .98 male to Female ratio, you think the ratio is .50 male to female. That means the official figures say there are 20,580,000 men and 21,420,000 women. You're suggesting the male figures are inflated and many of them are dead...well to get to your ratio of 2 women for every man, that would mean there are actually only 10,710,000 men....Are you seriously suggesting that there are ten million men registered as living in Thailand who don't actually exist? if you are then I am concerned for your sanity.

We've moved on now we're reminiscing about Thailand. All the stuff about black people and male/female ratios has got boring. You're welcome to join the discussion if you like.

I had a good feeling about Chaing Mai,

the food was great, cheap and the air was easy to breathe, better climate than BKK, until someone warned me about the burning and the inability to breathe,

I thought about that too as I just rode a bicycle in fresh air, sunshine, above average wind, allowing for deep breaths

I didnt find that in Thailand although Chaing Mai was good when I was there

the Dukes has great pizza and other food, I think they had a lamb shank also

  12. I wish I was there when they were there too

that would have been the time for an american as we'd are just (old) enough to have been able to keep up with them as they would be our older brothers

who better than to pav the way for guys in a foreign land than older brothers?

    thanks for the welcome.

Yeah it was great. They taught me the ropes and how to speak Thai. They also said the girls used to do it for free when they first got to Thailand. We used to hang out in the old Thermae in Sukhumvit and the Blue Fox in Soi Nam Duplee. It's a 7-11 now. I think they have all passed away now. One of them was poisoned by his girlfriends. They were all on smack. They used to take me to the shooting galleries in Chiang Mai (I didn't partake) and then we'd go up into the mountains between Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son and smoke opium for a week. You could see the lights of Khun Sa's Mong Thai Army just across the border in Burma. Great times!

the head buzz I got as I imagined myself walking into the hills of Chaing Mai, was incredible.

We used you rent this house just outside Chiang Mai that used to be a heroin factory and the manager had been skimming off the top. Well the Mafia Drug Lord had killed him and all his family and chopped them up into bits and thrown them all over the mountain. Now that place was full of ghosts, it was incredible. They used to wake you up day or night. Poke you. Whisper in your ear. The Chinese guy living next door wouldn't even enter the house. It was rumored that a load of gold was buried under the house. After we couldn't take it anymore the Chinese guy bought the house and demolished it. Don't know if he found the gold.

  13. it's also "stages" of life

At 54, I have more options now than I did at 34 with two kids and a wife

    its all relative,

Thailand is not offering more than places like Costa Rica and Panama, and with better weather.

its also a lot easier to get here from Fort Lauderdale, than it is Thailand.

Although I fly 1st class, and it mitigates in large part the long flight. I cannot see myself motivated to return, no matter how warm the soap,

and she is very warm, sometimes!

I am becoming more convinced that this hemisphere is more suited to my desiires in life, and the Atlantic Ocean, for now, the better of the two.

I will see Panama shortly, according to a friend who wants me there,

this is the project they are building

Very nice project. I wish you luck. You're welcome in Thailand anytime. PM me if you're coming. Understand where you are we are both around the same age. But when I first came to Thailand there was hardly anything here and it was full of Vietnam Vets who had burned their passports. It was actually great. Still love the place but I do like to travel too, but Thailand will probably always be my home.

  15. Dear Hardened Soul,

How you have enlightened me. I now realize I've been doing it all wrong all these years. I should be a real man and show and share my emotions and listen carefully to my wives' outlook on life and period pains etc. Then do the washing up and ironing and clean the house. I always thought I should just make money and everything else would look after it's self, because no bloody woman can be depended on to make money and take care of the bills when the shit hits the fan.

I see you are on a one man crusade to enlighten us boys and girls in Thailand as to how to behave and spend our lives. Well feel free to go ahead, seen it all before. A Thai woman wants a strong man with money to take care of her and in return she will treat you like a king. Those are the rules of the house and if you don't like them go to a different casino.

Your touchy feely attitude will get you nowhere in Thailand. That's probably why you use the name Hardened Soul because you've been shafted so many times. I am puzzled why you are here if you like Western women so much. Or maybe it's because you can get free sex with them and they will listen to your BS and then dump you when they find you you can't financially support them either.

I suggest you go back to London with all the blacks, Pakistanis, Indians and other spongers who are definitely not welcome here. Thailand is one of the only countries in the World that will tell them to piss off. I Love Thailand!

  16. Western women are the worst, most of them don't enjoy sex or they have hang ups about it. They are also much more unfaithful than Thai women. I see my old school buddies when I return home and they are stuck with absolute pigs. No way they can get out without losing everything. They also look at least ten years older than me too. In my personal opinion most women are out for what they can get without working. Much easier to get married, have kids and be supported for the rest of their lives.

Most Western women don't enjoy sex???!!!! cheesy.gif

Maybe you're just crap in the sack, mate.

I swear to God, when so many Western men think like this fool, is it any wonder so many of them end up financially and emotionally eviscerated?

Nothing but pity for you, pal

Well maybe I come from a different generation than you but I've had great sex with Western women until we "settled down". Maybe what I am trying to say is Thai women are more sexually active and more uninhibited even after years of marriage. I guess you're a Brit and my experience of British girls is terrible. They seem to be more interested in black guys than white guys and isn't Ladbroke Grove an infamous place for street hookers?

Have to agree with atf on this, once you settle down& have kids it's over sex wise for most blokes in the west, then they take your house car, buisness, and you still have to pay them,my Thai wife would never turn me down as they have a sense of duty to their husbands, which i have found most western women do not also they have far better skin, bodies etc,and why i ask is Ladbroke grove in Thailand if he is so enamored of western women.

Excusez-moi his monika is Hardened Soul not Ladbroke Grove. I am sure we would all like to know how his soul became hardened.

  18. I love how you guys talk sh*t on Thai girls. What about Western women? Do you think all is going to be great once you marry a money grubbing western girl?

Example: My buddy flipped houses in the 90's and early 2000's. He made a sh*t load of money. He decided to open a restaurant with his wife. The property alone was worth over a million dollars. The couple had 2 children. All was fine until she wanted to have more children. He was older so he didn't want a large family. She got pissed, and divorced his ass. She claimed that she was no longer in love with him. Next, she was out at the bars hitting on everybody and everything. She married someone new. She had 2 more children with her new husband. Meanwhile she sued her old husband and took 60% of his earnings, and got 50% of the restaurant when he sold it 2 years ago. The great thing is she contributed ZERO! He was the one that hustled and made the money.

I know a bit about Thai culture. My gf takes care of her mother. She sends her a little bit home every week. If we were to marry I would send her mother some money each week. Why not? I respect the fact that she takes care of her mother. Compare that to our western values. We just dump our old parents in nursing homes, or we just neglect them altogether.

Why do you think we are in Thailand? Women can't do that here, unless you put your house in her name, DUUH! Western women are the worst, most of them don't enjoy sex or they have hang ups about it. They are also much more unfaithful than Thai women. I see my old school buddies when I return home and they are stuck with absolute pigs. No way they can get out without losing everything. They also look at least ten years older than me too. 19. I got a SMS from Pirelli saying there is another track day on 10-11 May. They also sent me a SMS for 15% off Pirelli tires. Checked Bira website and the 10-11 May are booked for Super Moto? Call or SMS 091-721-9516 to register.

    i received it too.

But i think it wil be held at Kaeng Krachan Track this time.

I received 15 percent discount coupon too which is handy for buying rosso2s or supercorsas at 10.000 km!

10 - 11 May is not a super good time for me though but i will be there.

The SMS I got said: "Academy and trackday round 2 will be held at Bira Circuit 10-11 May Call or SMS 091-721-9516 to register." I'll call them tomorrow anyway.

  20. My girlfriend wants to get married. She's 35 years old so I'm sure her biological clock is ticking. She wants to have a child and a house. That's only normal.

    Antidote: http://www.reddit.com/r/TheRedPill/

That website is for sad nerd bastards that have had their spirit broken by bitches. Women are like children. They will keep testing you until you cave in or you give them a slap and send them to their room. A woman's understanding of men is usually based on their father, so unless you're going to be Daddy and hand out a bit of corporal punishment now and then, you're going to end up playing Mommy.

  21. Since I didn't know much about the ECE standard, I read this.

    http://www.webbikeworld.com/eicma-2010/nolan-helmets/dot-vs-ece-helmet-safety-standards.htm

Not sure if DOT, SNELL, or ECE is better now since the rules have changed since the last time I read up on SNELL.

Read it and try to decide for yourself.

This should explain it for you. Personally I prefer to trust SNELL because it is a non-profit organization but as these guys explain fit is very important also. People have different head shapes so you need to try which manufacturer has the best fit for your head shape. I wouldn't buy anything that wasn't made by Bell, Shoei, Arai or AGV. Bell fits me best and it is the only helmet that has a Polaroid visor.

Best selection of helmets online is here:
