  1. Unfortunately, AIDS is throughout the world NOT just in Pattaya. Removing the "undesirables" by the Police is not going to make any great quantum leaps to stop AIDS. BTW, prostitution exists in most societies, whether it is covert or overt!

This is all about some local officials wanting to be seen as doing something, in order to ingratiate themselves with the NCPO? Or, maybe they do need the tea money? whistling.gif

There are bigger issues and more complex crimes and corruption that should be addressed first. coffee1.gif

  2. Give me some empirical evidence from neutral third party.

Many western drugs are so powerful that there can be side effects. Usually those side effects are known and the prescriber and the patient can take these into account when planning therapy using drugs. Unfortunately it seems westerners want immediate relief and cures. But when I need anti-malaria pills when travelling, I need them work asap, so I am not going to eat the bark of a cinchona tree when swallowing a pill is so much easier.

Many alternative remedies have no or little research into side effects - as a westerner I find that uncomfortable. Lack of research into the efficacy of alternative herbal medicines does not bring me any comfort either. I will take empirical evidence over anecdotal any day.

There can be a place for complimentary medicines alongside western drugs where appropriate.

I have two family members (a daughter and older sister) suffering from various cancers. Both have had their general health knocked around because of chemo but have survived, Sure lowered immunity to colds etc have bought about side effects. But life is good when considering the possible alternative - death perhaps. My elder sister (in her 80's) had now decided that she will not take anymore chemotherapy when the current treatment has finished because it upsets her so much. My daughter now has metastatic cancer (previously her2 breast cancer) residing in her bones where it currently is under control with low dose chemo and some bone strengthening drugs. She is now able to work again.

The point is, that western medicines are indeed powerful and may have side effects but generally speaking do offer a better chance of containing or curing a serious illness compared to herbal remedies.

    Edited for spelling errors.

  3. "They (the official and his wife) have been accused of human trafficking, tricking her to work, failing to pay her and abuse," Police Colonel Mana Tienmaungpak, head of investigations at Pakkred police station in Nonthaburi, told AFP.

And despite chose charges, they only have "invited" the couple to the police station next week!!

Arrest them, and let them taste a little of their own medicine!!

Another typical TV knee-jerk. Are you saying that anyone accused of a crime should be arrested without investigation?

Slavery and human trafficking is a terrible crime and should be punished to the maximum... which I (sadly) acknowledge does not happen enough here.

However, if we automatically presume someone guilty without trial we should go back to the middle ages where alleged witches were subject to "dunking" (the original version of water-boarding) to prove their innocence!

The "accused" can prove their innocence in court, at the time the Police need to prove their guilt. Isn't that the function of a court? So go ahead and arrest them!

But, then again, does the WHO official have diplomatic immunity? If he suddenly leaves the country a good guess would suggest he was guilty. Otherwise he could stay and prove his innocence. coffee1.gif

Oooops, one more choice - he could be transferred to an "inactive" post? Sorry, could not help that one, just my lateral sense of humour.

  4. After Songkran, when the truth about the road toll comes to hand will we know whether there has been a "safe" Songkran, as promised by the RTP.

Until that time, the "announcement" will remain just that, for the happiness of Thai peoples. whistling.gif

Seeing is believing NOT just being told.

  5. After all, this Chinese tourist is injured in Bar or in the bus ? Truth will never come out.....

Thailand will be in trouble, if Chinese tourists stopped coming to spend their money here.

Didn`t take long before the first idiot appear to bash Thailand..

I would think it was perhaps a sarcastic comment about the Chinese?

English is not your first language? Or lacking in lateral thinking? whistling.gif

    No. Wrong.

This is not sarcasm, and it seem it is you who lacks the ability to read and comprehend English.

    Here it is:

After all, this Chinese tourist is injured in Bar or in the bus ? Truth will never come out.....

Thailand will be in trouble, if Chinese tourists stopped coming to spend their money here.

    (1) "After all, this Chinese tourist is injured in Bar or in the bus ?" This questions whether this person was hurt in a bar or on the bus. Now, we have his friend corroborating the bus story, but let's not let the facts get in the way of a dig at Thailand, shall we?

    (2) "Truth will never come out....." What a sweet Thai Visa moment. First put forward the proposition of a "secret' and "hidden" event ... a bar fight where the "victim" was abused by ... you guessed it Thai People .. then the pure evil of the Thai conspiracy / cover up. Ummm ... where is the making fun of the Chinese drunk fool in this? This is Thai Visa Thai Bashing at its core, and it is getting old and boring for many of us.

    (3) English is not your first language? Ditto sir ... ditto.

I merely posed a question. If you used HOTS then maybe you could also understand what I was alluding to.

So, settle back, settle down and try to enjoy a day without "bashings and conspiracy theories" getting up your nose whistling.gif

And thank you for answering on behalf of NextStationBangkok who is the only one who can confirm what he/she actually meant! coffee1.gif

  6. And in which way exactly does it benefit the victim, if you strip the criminals of basic human rights, please!?

Perhaps I could ask, "By giving criminals their basic human rights, how have you helped the victim"?? coffee1.gif

    Yeah, you could!

Only... I am not looking to "help" the victims- I would be looking for the truth!

And I am quiet sure, I don't get there easier, if I strip an alleged criminal of his human rights!

And even more: what if, the allegations were found to be not true!

Would it help the victim, if you torture innocent people?

Let me guess: you are an American and you still believe, Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11...after which a whole country was bombed to bits, on the base of false and trumped up allegations!

Helped the victims a whole lot, didn't it!coffee1.gif

Of course you're not looking to help the victims! You are about "protecting the rights" of the criminals!

Despite what you claim, the truth is, that victims need help! Get your priorities right.

Criminals have rights - to shelter, food and medical assistance, nothing more nothing less.

NO, I am not American (U.S.A. I guess you mean?) - stop clouding the issues with other speculative comments. I think you need a handkerchief applied to your chin.

    Here endeth the lesson.
