  1. The police look very friendly with the poor guy, a reassuring hand on the shoulder and warm smiles all around.

Us friendly guys with warm smiles got you, you b**st**d!

Hope he does forever in prison, or for co-operating with police to find those who "employed" him, then perhaps a lighter sentence. Followed by deportation to a muslim country (where he will be happier with the lifestyle that he so desperately wants Thai people to have).

  2. There is another way around this..... In Colombia, after years of terrorist bombings and assassinations,  all motorbike drivers and riders have to wear safety vests and helmets with decals that match the license tag.  If you are caught without a helmet, vest, or that doesn't match the tag, it is assumed you are up to no good and immediately detained by police. So, it really is a win win. Safer for the bikers, safer for the security forces.

If that is truly working for the Colombians then it is a good idea that should be considered by the NCPO, as a part of other measures, as well.

I know that the arguments for wearing a helmet are justified but in this case perhaps the NCPO is looking at a bigger picture.

But then again, what would a farang know? Just saying.

  3. I opened this thread from the email, just to see a picture, seen the picture of the plane and closed the tab.

Then I thought, "Hmm, I wonder how many posts before somebody starts remarking about how crap Thailand are in this thread".

So I reopened the closed tab, first reply insulting Thailand. Ah, thaivisa.com

Not need to insult Thailand at all. What country is perfect?

But in some instances, telling the truth can be seen as insulting.

  4. Blue Jeans for the road rash. Long sleeves and 3/4 helmet for the sun. Heavy boots for the job they do. Bikini panties to keep the package up front.

Flip flops don't work in rice fields and they don't work trying to push a 400 kg bike. They are just cheap.

Just can't do gloves. Hands are used to the sun now.

This is for 8-10 hour days. For a short local ride. Short sleeves, blue jeans because the bike is HOT. and the boots. Helmet is optional. I do not dress as if expecting a crash. If I do, I hope it's bad enough to kill me.

Helmet optional? You got to be joking? I rode and raced motorcycles for years and would not be on one (even today) without a helmet. It doesn't take much for your head to hit something leading to death or possible disablement. And I've taken some falls in my time.

Sounds like your company is a bit Ruff! Ruff! Groan.rolleyes.gif

  6. The level of belligerence, bitching and moaning by TVs army of arm-chair experts is as amusing as it is pathetic. Thailand is not the only country in the world that requires citizens to carry their identity card at all times and for non-citizens to carry their passport at all times. Bitch and squeal all you like, but the OP is very clear.

I've carried my work permit and passport with me every day since arriving in Thailand nine years ago. I carry my passport wherever I go in other countries in the region where the LAW is the same.

As much as I have no interest in reading posts by people bitching and moaning about how unfair the enforcement of visa overstay laws and now black banning regulations are I have no interest in reading future posts about people being fined for not carrying their passports. What don't you understand: It's the law. If you can't go to 7/11 or Tesco without losing your passport perhaps you shouldn't leave your nursing home.

A drivers licence or photocopy of a passport proves nothing. Anyone reasonably competent with Photoshop can adjust arrival stamps for a copy in a few minutes.

It's obvious that Thailand is moving into line with other countries in the region in trying to clear the undesirables out. It also possibly has something to do with the two false passports that originated in Thailand and were used to board MH370.

Conform or SILENTLY pay the fine. But please don't start bitching and moaning and starting new forum threads when you get detained and have to wait at a police station until someone brings you your original passport and then you have to cough up a payment for the privilege of keeping the cops company.

And do you think those passports were stolen from a safe? Or just stolen under other circumstances?

This is all about commonsense of protecting ones legal identity. But it seems that some forum commentators do not recognise commonsense either!

  7.

In every country the rule is the same but who is really going to the beach with his passport and which country is really enforcing this to a fine? How much worth a stolen passport for criminals and have you an idea of the hassles in case a tourist loses his passport? Which tourist really want to lose his passport in Thailand? I hope the police force will be flexible with this rule (as all countries are) especially regarding the fine or is this measure to extort the tourists money ? By the way is extortion not criminal offence? You, who make the rules should put yourself at the position of legit tourists and not treat them as criminals at first... We see that Big Generals are in power... What s the next measure?

"in every country the rule is the same"? Utter nonsense. I assume you are Thai or you would know better.

I am not Thai but can you point me a country where you can theorically circulate without a valid ID ?

    Yes! The Uk.

As a Uk citizen I am no obligation at all to carry any form of id except for my own convenience.

About three or four years ago there was discussion about introducing an id card on a voluntary basis but it was quietly dropped on the grounds of cost and after pressure from the human rights brigade and the pro-immigration lobby.

And Australia and probably other countries as well.

  8. So, if I go to the beach for a swim, do I take it in the water with me or leave on the beach where it could be stolen (along with other items)?

I'll pay the 2000BHT rather than put up with the s**t of a stolen passport. There goes my Visa attached to the passport! What will immigration do then?

What is wrong with a copy to carry where the original can be produced to police/immigration, from safe keeping, say, within 12 hours or whatever?

The criminals will have a wonderful time at beaches etc. Hope the authorities are getting the messages here. I understand the thinking but it appears not to be thought through clearly!

  9. Definitely good that he was arrested; however, wouldn't the next logical step be to arrange a sting operation and have him meet with his "Romanian gang" associates and thereby arrest more of the people involved?

I agree - not rocket science is it? I wonder about the commitment to reduce crime. Perhaps The General should be alerted to the "efficiency" of his police?

  10. Never been on a train in Thailand and i never plan to get on one, for this very reason.

Go on, get a life and get aboard a train. Be adventurous. Do you travel by car or other public transport? Rhetorical question, but I am sure you get my drift.

I have travelled from BKK to the Cambodian border by train ( 2nd class I think - 100bht) no problem - just so slow that it could never fall over!

  11. That's the problem with Thailand...they are the only country in the world that has train derailments & accidents.

June 12 ..The Transportation Safety Board says fatigue caused a wheel to fail on a freight train that derailed earlier this year in northern New Brunswick, sparking a fire that burned for days. http://www.ctvnews.ca/hot-topics/Tags/Train%20derailment

Only one thing worse than a tired wheel and that is no tracks at all.

Yes, iphad, we do get your point.

  12. Aussie kids partying here are particularly vunerable.  In the nightclubs back in the nanny state of Australia there are real bouncers and laws such as the responsible service of alcohol to protect youth from themselves.  Young lads drink and act tuff back in Australia, lots of argy bargy, but rarely does anything get out of hand (although it does from time to time).

Problem here though is that young aussie lads and lasses arrive here for the full moon parties and other festivities totally unaware to the fact that in Thailand there is no policing or regulation of violent behaviour.  There are just a few CCTV cameras...that often don't work.

Be warned, if you are a young Aussie lad or lass planning to come to Thailand to party.  If someone (or a gang) wants to smash your face to a pulp just for fun, no one will be there to help you.  NO ONE...

Great that channel 7 arrived from Australia to make the court proceedings more public.  Does anyone have a link to a clip of the chinese father snapping off the mic on the sound boom?

Hello to Jack's mum.  If you happen to read this thread may I suggest that you contact both Purdue and Cornell Universities and get the contact details for the editors of their respective campus news papers.  You can then put together a press release with relevant links suggesting that the papers warn their student bodies that two violent young men may soon enrol on campus and that other students should take care to avoid them so as to minimise the risk of being assualted.  You may also like to suggest that perhaps the attack on Jack was racially motivated and also inform the campus newspapers that perhaps these Chinese lads like to gang up to beat white boys.  That should put them on the back foot if they want to study in America.

Are there any white supremacy groups located close to Purdue or Cornell?  They might also be interested to know when the Chinese lads arrive in their towns...

What is the problem with real bouncers and laws and nanny state? Surely gives a better chance of good behaviour than where "nanny state" does not exist.

  14. Navi Pillay is not having rockets fired at her! Stupid woman in her ivory tower.

I think it is sad that so many civilians are loosing their lives but a cease fire or peace accord would stop it.

Perhaps if Hamas was not so bloody minded then Israel may not be so bloody minded either.
